Conferences & Guest Speakers

Keynote Speaker Aylwin Lewis shared his insights as CEO and president of Sears Holdings Corporation April 8 at the Kellogg Black Management Association Conference, Influencing the World: Building Intellectual, Economic and Social Capital. Inventor and entrepreneur Sam Pitroda told audiences April 29 at the Kellogg Asian Business Conference: Asia Rising, that he hopes India's success in telecommunications will be matched by the country's future progress in healthcare.  Also an expert on the emergence of software companies, Shantanu Narayen, CEO and president of Adobe, was a keynote speaker at the April 19 Kellogg Technology Conference: Convergence, Innovation, and Connecting People and Business. And alumnus David Speer '77 returned to Kellogg May 10 as a keynote presenter for New Frontiers, the 11th Kellogg Manufacturing Business Conference. Speer is president and CEO of Illinois Tool Works Inc. and serves on the advisory board of the Kellogg Manufacturing and Management Program.

Kinko's founder Paul Orfalea visited Kellogg April 19 to explain how he built a professional printing and copying empire from a single machine on a college campus in 1970. Orfalea admitted that he remains a "lousy reader," having struggled with Attention Deficit Disorder, but said his keen observational skills and ability to develop good ideas fueled his entrepreneurial dreams.

Jack Greenberg, former chairman and CEO of McDonald's, was one of six guest speakers who appeared in Clinical Professor Anthony Paoni's Executive MBA class this spring. Paoni, a 1992 Kellogg alum, is retiring from teaching, except for custom programs. The technology expert and vice chairman of DiamondCluster International ended his tenure by inviting back several favorite corporate leaders who had, over the years, engaged his students. Other guests included Brenda Barnes, chairman and CEO of Sara Lee, and Craig Weatherup, retired chairman and CEO of PepsiCo.
