New
York
New York
in the summer is slow. New Yorkers take shelter from the heat
and humidity by escaping to Jersey shore or the Hamptons.
Outdoor activities take priority over indoor events. KACNY,
even during this slow season, was able to put together events
that made this summer the busiest ever for the club! Following
is a rundown, in chronological order:
June 9
was a big night for our club, and especially the Silicon Alley
Group. The group hosted a sold-out "Fireside Chat"
(yes, in June) at the Union Club in the Upper East Side. Anna
Wheatley, the chief editor of AlleyCat News, was the featured
speaker. Wheatley, with her candid observation about the new
economy and admirable sense of humor, kept the crowd mesmerized
for two hours. There were alumni from other business schools
and NU schools in attendance. Thanks to Vincent Grimaldi '95,
chair of KACNY's Silicon Alley Group, for organizing this
premier event. Don Allison '73 once again came through for
the event at the Union Club.
Some of
our alumni gathered in Bryant Park at dusk on July 17 to watch
the movie The Gang's All Here. This outdoor event has been
a New York fixture for years, and we had a great time.
Monthly
happy hour has become a fixture in the roster of KACNY activities.
Our July and August happy hours were held at Aubette in the
Murray Hill area. Alumni relaxed after work over Apple Martinis
and cold beer.
Our alumni
got a taste of culture at Central Park on Aug. 1, watching
the New York Philharmonic perform under the moonlit sky. It
was a great event in the middle of summer and drew a good
attendance.
On Sept.
15, our alumni took part in the Big Ten Alumni Mixer at the
Chelsea Pier. People had a great time chatting with alumni
of our sister NU schools and building new networks.
KACNY
was proud to help all the northeast-based alumni of Northwestern
University take part in the school's 150th anniversary celebration.
it was held at the Supper Club in Manhattan on Sept. 25. Kellogg
alumni mingled with their peers from other schools and enjoyed
the spectacular event.
KACNY
held its annual planning meeting to discuss future events
and strategies for the club. Thanks to Gina Bokios '99 and
her emplyer, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meacher & Flom LLP,
for donating the fabulous venue and refreshments. Our alumni
discussed various topics overlooking the skyline of midtown
Manhattan.
KACNY
was happy to help the school organize a reception for prospective
students on Oct. 5. This successful event was held at a Goldman
Sachs building in the financial district, with about 150 people
in attendance. Our enthusiastic alumni shared their experiences
at Kellogg with the attendees.
Oct. 6
was the day for our monthly happy hour. It was a special happy
hour honoring the new graduates to New York City. The event
was held at Metronome in the Flatiron district. In addition
to KACNY leadership group, Paula Trail from the Alumni Relations
Office and Katherine Mott from the Admissions Office welcomed
the new graduates. Later, the group ventured out to Chinatown
for delicious dumplings and steamed fish.
We are
looking for leaders who will join us in making sure KACNY
stays on top! If you want to get involved, please contact
us. We are specifically looking for alumni who can help maintain
our Web site (KACNY.org). Please let us know if you would
be interested. If you want to organize events geared toward
marketing, help write our monthly newsletter, or anything
else you can think of, please let us know.
Finally,
we would like to thank our alumni for making Kellogg Alumni
Club of New York the preeminent Kellogg Alumni Club and one
of the most significant alumni clubs in the New York area.
Our special thanks to Arline Isaacson, our executive director,
for her enthusiastic contribution. She is always very helpful
and has established a strong rapport with our alumni. You
may reach Arline at 718.645.1745.
