1992

James Rubin has decided to leave the Monsanto Company. He will be joining Influence as the chief financial officer. Influence is the leading Midwest-based eBusiness service provider and incubator. This new business will allow James and his family to remain in St. Louis.

Boy, oh, Boy! Bryan Sadoff, his wife, Alicia, and son Bradley (3) welcome another boy to the family. Adam Ryan was born Sept. 11. The entire family is doing well. After three years in Milwaukee, they have adjusted (at least as well as one can).

Robin, Adina (³Addie² now almost two) and Kenneth Glickstein moved to Denver in October 1999. After 10 months in a corporate apartment, they have finally moved into their house (which was under construction when they bought it). For those of you who have lost track, this makes seven addresses in three cities for them since Kellogg. Kenneth is a principal with AGL Capitol Investments, LLC, a private equity investment firm. AGL Capitol is an affiliate of Amstar Group, Ltd., a private real estate investment and development firm. They provide growth capitol to companies related to or providing services to the real estate industry. They have plenty of room for guests, so if you find yourself in Denver on your way to or from a ski trip, give them a call.

Kenneth does talk to Andrew Todhunter on a regular basis. Andrew left The Canaan Group (again) in the spring and is currently director of product management for Continental DataGraphics Portal Development Services. Andrew is responsible for their portal, which serves as an e-marketplace for airlines and their suppliers. Andrew, Carol and their two kids, Lucy and Philip, are living in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Vinnie Dasari joined Timken in 1992 right after MMM and has not changed companies since. He was in India from 1996-2000. Most recently, he was managing director of the companyıs operations in India. Vinnie is back in the U.S. now and is desperately trying to get back in touch with his Kellogg friends. He is now the president of the railroad business unit and has been elected as an officer of the company. His two boys, the first born at Kellogg, are growing up and are now six and nine. They are glad to be back in the U.S. because they now get to go to their restaurant heaven (i.e. McDonaldıs) and entertainment heaven (i.e. Chuckie Cheese). Vinnie has been back to Kellogg for the last two years and attended the India Business Conference where he met Professors Jain and Bala, but is still trying to track down his classmates. Any MMM ı92 folks out there?

Stork Report

Carol and Jim Kinney added Owen to the Kinney clan in February. Owen joins big brothers Ian (5) and Cameron (3). Carol reports that life is great in Boston, although she still has trouble getting Jim to go to work on Wednesdays!

Jennifer and Charlie York had their second daughter, Jessica, who joins sister, Christina (4). ³Charlie enjoys his work as a tech analyst/portfolio manager and I am more than busy as a Œcareer mom.ı We live in Wellesley, Mass.²

Kari and Henning Amelung will remain in Cape Town ³where I head up the IFCıs local office until 2003. We recently celebrated our latest addition with the arrival of our son, Kai Gerhard, who joins sister Katya.²

In March, Tom Scarpello married Yetli in Cuernavaca, Mexico, while he was working for Ford Mexico. ³We have a 10-month old son, Thomas Alexander. Yetli runs a company based in Mexico City that provides site acquisition services, while I run marketing and sales at Fordıs high performance vehicle division.²

After five years in Argentina, Luis Garreaud returned home to Santiago where he opened and now runs Egon Zehnder Internationalıs Chilean office. Business is growing like crazy, as is the Garreaud family, which welcomed Lucia in September. She joins sisters Eloisa (8), Maria (6), and Olivia (5).

Debbie and Gerry McGinley had their second daughter, Kelsey Lynn. The McGinleys moved from NYC to Westport, Conn., to make room for the growing family. Gerryıs still at DLJıs Private Client Services.

Tom Fitzpatrick announces the birth of Catherine Elizabeth on April 15. ³Best thing that ever happened to us on tax day.² The Fitzpatricks moved to Akron where Bayer has a plant. Tom has already taken Catie to her first ballgame. ³Weıd love to see any alumnae in, or passing through, the Cleveland area. Contact tfitz1b@yahoo.com.²

Chris and Ross Barker had their third child in April, Tess Samaria, who joins siblings, Annie and Grant.

Comings and Goings

Leo Hermancinski is now the CEO of Inception Capital, an early-stage venture fund that targets spin-off opportunities from established corporations. ³We look for Œnew economyı opportunities, i.e., e-commerce, Internet infrastructure, new media, etc.

Having left Amazon, John Small is now raising funds for a new wireless application startup and traveling across Europe and Asia where the ventureıs technical work is being done. He said, ³Amazon was fun, but I wonıt miss spending the holidays in the distribution center in Georgia stuffing bubble pack into boxes full of Glitter Gulch Barbies. While recruiting at Kellogg last Spring (I hired four KGSMers for Amazon), I sat in on Oprah and Stedmanıs class; the guest speaker that day was Henry Kissinger. Seeing how much Kellogg has improved over the years makes you almost want to ask for a partial refund!

John said that Geoff Hunt is also raising funds for CloudSource, his Web development and technology company in Oakland. It sounds like he is working on some cool projects with Nextlink and Concentric.

John saw Matt McCall and Samir Master at the Kellogg Digital Frontier Conference. Theyıre both VCs, Samir at LVMH in San Francisco and Matt with Portage Ventures. ³He and Ashley (Thierot) are raising a couple of handsome/smart kids (must be the genes). Future Kellogg grads no doubt.²

Mark Anderson writes: ³I vacationed in Israel with Steve Rappaport and we made a day-trip to the fabled ruins of Petra in Jordan, which were truly amazing. Later I returned to San Francisco to find that I was dot commed (laid off), along with 200 others at AllAdvantage.com.²

Gary Ger has left Lucent for Lucent spin-off, Aralight — a venture-backed start-up in the optical component space. Gary is vice president of business development and is based in central New Jersey.

David Murphy & Co. moved to Jacksonville upon his taking a new job within J&Jıs contact lens division (Vistakon) as director of distributors and emerging channels. ³We will live in a bungalow for a while deciding if we should: (1) buy a ranch house by a pond full of alligators and bugs; (2) live in a tent on the beach.²

Section 65 Report:

As usual, Lana Etherington Slavitt saw to it that Section 65 is well represented.

In September, Andy Arenberg married Amy Haynes in San Francisco. Amy is an occupational therapist working with children. In attendance were Lana, Kathy Shea Urbat, fellow Schwabians David Krigel and Ilene Weinstein, George Corrigan, Tim Patrick, and Geoff Underwood. Andy is a ³vice president of business design and development working with independent, investment advisors at Charles Schwab.² Contact andy.arenberg@schwab.com.

Sharon Davenport was elected principal at McKinsey in Chicago and is now cutting back on travel ³so that daughter Elise doesnıt point to an airplane and say ŒMama.ı We keep in touch with Rick ı93 and Jenny Patton who just had a second child, Daphne.²

After years at Toyota in Los Angeles, Joe Husman joined CarParts.com as business development director. He writes, ³my fixer-upper is almost all fixed up, so visitors are welcome. My e-mail: waytogojoe@hotmail.com.²

Arnelle and Bernie Armstrong proudly announce the birth of Bernard IV in September. ³We continue to spend the winter skiing in the Alps. My partner and I (at Ulysses Capital) are planning the launch of a second hedge fund that will focus on a U.S. technology strategy.²

Kathy Shea-Urbat left Hyatt International after six years to become CFO at CapitalThinking, a start-up online commercial lender. She was sad to leave Chicago and her newly refurbished 19th century home for Manhattan, but is excited by the new job.

Tom Galloway moved to Los Angeles and works for Western Capital Management in Pasadena. Despite having to wake up by 4 a.m., he seems to enjoy the good life in SoCal.

Hiroko Osaka writes that she is a co-founder and EVP of marketing for cyberPixie, a Chicago-based start-up.

Lisa Krutzel-Katzman writes sheıs now a consultant for A.D. Little at its Arlington, Va.-based technology group where she works on e-commerce projects.

Dave Perel was shocked when Beth Barish May threw him a surprise 35th birthday party in Manhattan. Mike and Monica Giaquinto were there as were other KGSMers. Mikeıs new e-mail is quinto1@bellatlantic.com.

In June, I attended Eun and Gerard Beenenıs wedding at the Alice Millar Chapel at Northwestern. Chip Hardwick ı93 was the minister and also attending were Charlie Kwon and Doug Reynolds who runs IXLıs European office.

But the biggest of the big news is that ³Our Man Down Under,² Dougal Henderson got married. Details please, Dougal!

Finally, I liken my life at our start-up, Ecos Technologies, to being on a roller coaster—lots of ups and downs, scary as hell—except that it never stops. At least Iıve a couple of top-notch KGSMers on board. We are now raising ŒBı round capital in a tumultuous market.
