Jim North resigned his job as vice president of business operations at Aspect Communications in 2002, having also worked at Sprint PCS during its start-up phase and more than 22 years at Digital Equipment Corporation. In retirement, he has devoted time to volunteer work in areas as diverse as training volunteers with the Kansas Department of Corrections and setting up housing and work aid in Sri Lanka following the 2007 tsunami. He has lived with Dawn, his wife of more than 38 years, in the Kansas City area for 19 years, as do both of their married, adult children with their families. "Life is good," he says, "and I remain thankful for the opportunities that my Kellogg education has allowed me to pursue."
J. Fred Brunk is competing in the Midwest Senior Citizens Synchronized Swimming competition in preparation for the annual meet in Sun City, Fla., in May 2013.
After working for Digital Equipment for 16 years, Brendan Coyle worked for Sybase, Platinum Technology, Open Text, Candle Corporation and a small startup before settling in at Cardinal Health. At Cardinal, he was a vice president of research and development in San Diego. He is now the COO of a for-profit career college based in central California. Since EMP-25, "which was filled with such dynamic people," he has traveled to England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Israel, Australia, India and Japan, along with at least 50 cities in the U.S. It has been interesting, he says, but he is quite tired of traveling.
Thomas Prescott ably represented EMP-25 in the over-50 category during the 2012 World's Strongest Man competition.
Donald Misner has been working hard in Dallas, rising to the position of top agent at his telemarketing center. He and his wife Sally recently celebrated their 49th anniversary, and are always happy to host visitors for drinks and dinner.
Anne Adams highly recommends retirement. She splits her time between Illinois and Naples, Fla., and volunteers with hospice. She keeps in touch with Wendy L. Tweeten and says hello to everyone.
Thomas G. Huitink is still in the transaction business at Ernst & Young, working primarily with private equity and acquisitive businesses based in the Midwest. The necessary travel for this role is mostly around the U.S., but he visits Europe and South America a couple times a year. His three kids are on their own and surviving. Two are CPAs and the other is an actuary. All three are married, with two grandkids and more on the way.
Deborah R. Ryan's son Bryan is working hard at engineering studies and still having a great time at school. "He made the squash club team," Deborah writes, "so we are often heading to tournament after tournament. Talk about logging the miles." She is looking to make some changes soon, and will keep you updated.
For excitement this year, Dan Leffert took a four-week motorcycle trip with some friends through Alberta, British Columbia and the Yukon Territories to Dead Horse, Alaska, and back. Parts of this continent are beautiful beyond words!
