Greetings
all! It was great hearing from so many of you after my first
dispatch as your new class rep. Keep the updates coming even
if you don't feel you have any "news" to report.
Current whereabouts, classmate sightings, etc. are all fair
game if you'd like to see your name in print or dish dirt
on others. On with the shows.
Jason
Green sent in this update from Chicago: "Gary Briggs
has taken a new job with eBay. The good news is that it's
an exciting company and a terrific job as one of their top
marketers. The bad news is that Gary, Catherine '94, and their
boys will be moving from Chicago to California. One interesting
development on the consulting front has been the emerging
area of nanotechnology. I've been working with a client to
develop commercialization opportunities for applications of
nanotechnology. The entire field is one to watch the next
few years. The National Science Foundation predicts that nanotechnology
will represent $1 trillion in products and services by 2015,
although it is essentially at zero today. Northwestern is
a leader in the field, with its Institute for Nanotechnology."
Jason consults with The Cambridge
Group.
Larson
Stiegemeyer has let me know he is alive and well. He was short
on specifics (witness protection program?) but I can report
that he is as funny as ever. I'll try and pry some details
out of him for a future issue.
Kyle
(Doherty) Hodgkins wrote from Cincinnati: "I'm still
churning along at this small-scale marketing project management
niche I've carved out for myself - four years plus, so I guess
this is legitimate! I have a merry band of subcontractors,
all MBA-moms who pitch in where needed. I see Roxanne (Pittan)
Gottlieb, Heather Winch, Carolyn Glastris and Kathy Kane from
time to time, generally on an annual retreat supplemented
by medicinal quantities of fine red wine."
Janice
(Mabie) MacVicar and her husband, Butch, live in Winnetka,
Ill with their 4-year-old boy, Charlie, and 6-month-old twins,
Eddie and Audrey. "I am a happy stay-at-home mom,"
Janice reports. Tim Hoying and his wife, Nancy, welcomed new
baby Megan last September, joining Ryan (3) and Rachel (6).
Tim is a consultant for A.T. Kearney in Chicago and is "still
looking for his lost shaker of salt."
Marc
Landsberg e-mailed this newsy missive from Chicago: "I
am EVP, director of corporate strategy and mergers and acquisitions
for Bcom3, a $2 billion marketing services holding company
which owns Leo Burnett, D'Arcy and Starcom. I travel all over
the world sourcing and closing deals for our operating companies
- from Hong Kong to Stockholm, from London to Warsaw. In early
March, Publicis announced that it would acquire Bcom3 and
this deal is expected to close sometime this summer. It's
been a great, great experience and I've enjoyed every minute.
"Lindsay
'90 and I have now expanded our board of directors to three
members: Jack (5, at the Latin School), Grace (2, attending
the school of scraped knees and big smiles), and George Edward
(5 months), our newest addition. Lindsay works part time for
Chemistri, Leo Burnett's interactive marketing arm, here in
Chicago. Though we still live in the city, it's clearly time
to consider the traditional migration in search of more space.
"I am in touch with several classmates, including Gary
Jones, who has now returned to the Midwest in a senior product
management role for a business-to-business manufacturer in
Madison, Wis. Amy Laban is a prominent author (she's published
two books) and is VP at Lake Capital here in Chicago, a small
private equity firm focusing on the marketing services sector.
Jim Kalustian is EVP/COO and one of the leaders of Braun Consulting,
a public CRM strategic consulting firm here in Chicago. Jim
lives in Boston and commutes regularly. Bart Lombardi is a
senior consultant and project manager for Braun. Bart relocated
his family here for two years on temporary assignment and
will likely move back to Boston at some point soon."
After
spending two years in the United Kingdom, Steve Frezier moved
back to the United States in August 2001. He is now vice president
of U.S. retail for Amazon.com, and manages Amazon's home and
electronics businesses. He lives in Mercer Island, Wash. In
March, Denise Bindleglass joined Capital H, Inc. as managing
director for its Chicago office. Previously, Denise was managing
director for the Midwest office of Redwood Partners. Capital
H
provides many innovative HR services.
Deborah
Fuhr recently was rated the No. 1 Exchange Traded Funds "ETF"
analyst in Europe by the consulting firm Greenwich Associates.
Debbie
became the head of exchange traded funds research at Morgan
Stanley in London in October 2002. Previously she was the
head of marketing for ETFs and OPALS in Europe and Asia, and
she also had sales responsibilities for Europe.
Debbie
has twice been on the CNBC show "Power Lunch" in
Europe to discuss her research. She has written five articles
on ETFs, which have been published in magazines in the U.S.
and Europe. Her job requires her to travel extensively throughout
Europe and Asia. Debbie enjoys living in London, where she
has been since 1995. In her spare time, Debbie enjoys spinning
and body pump classes, the theatre, museums, travelling and
bicycling in places off the beaten path, such as China and
Vietnam. Debbie would enjoy meeting up with any Kellogg alumni
visiting London.
That's
it for this month. Thanks to all who contributed. I hope to
hear from more of you for the next issue.
