Before
joining Philipine National Bank, Lorenzo Tan '87 was
able to take a 10-day vacation, during which he checked
out the digs on his new yacht. |

Well,
after a very chilly spring, summer has finally arrived here
in Chicago. The kids are just about done with school and Connie
is graduating today so that she can be a teacher of America's
future leaders starting this fall (she will be teaching fourth
grade). Our new dog - Sophie - is growing faster than the
Staypuff Marshmallow man - at 4 months old, she is already
over 35 pounds! She is part German Shepherd and part Newfoundland
and promises to be a whopper. Unfortunately, I was unable
to attend the reunion several weeks back, but cub reporters
Lexi Van de Walle and Dave Cannon have been kind
enough to share a few notes.
Lexi
reports that she has been a consultant for more than two years
and is currently working with the Alliance for Downtown NYC
to rebrand lower Manhattan with a 500-event performing arts
festival. The festival, which was created to help revitalize
the area around Ground Zero, launched in May. Visit the Web
site at www.rivertoriverNYC.org. They're getting a lot of
press, too. Lexi says it may be the best job she's ever had!
For the reunion weekend,
she stayed with classmate Cathy Bur Hall and her husband,
Tom Hall
'99, and their two kids. Cathy and Tom moved back from Vail
recently,
and Cathy is working at BBDO as a group account director.
Gary McCullough is her client at Wrigley. Lexi sat next to
Chris Kenney at dinner at the Roxy. He's a consultant at LEK
and was there with his three daughters at the BBQ. Charlie
Trippe came from Boston, but unfortunately his wife, Blair
Landau Trippe (Lexi's roommate for two years, couldn't join
him. He is a software entrepreneur and getting ready for the
75th anniversary of Lindbergh's St. Louis flight at the Smithsonian.
Lexi missed you, Blair! Mary Ford is running a nursing home
in Maine. Roy Jones, Gary and Kim McCullough, Tom Minar, John
Schroeder, Laura Nadelhoffer and Melissa Goodman Peterman
were all
there as well. Dave Cannon also had a great time at the reunion
and was happy to see his old roommate, Ken Bloom. Dave and
Ken shared memories of their old (as in run-down) Evanston
attic apartment. Dave would love it if
someone would take the lead on organizing more frequent get-togethers
for our classmates in the Chicago and southern Wisconsin area.
Dave mentioned that possibly Walt Cook may be interested.
I'm stretched pretty thin right now, but perhaps I could help
out in coordination if Walt or someone else would like to
take the lead. Just let me know.
Lorenzo
Tan was appointed president of Philippine National Bank, the
country's fourth largest bank, by the Philippine government
in April. Lorenzo joined Citibank in New York immediately
after graduation and was most recently president of United
Coconut Planters Bank, the ninth-largest bank in the Philippines.
Well,
that's about it. Sorry for the short column this time. Send
me some summer news and beach/mountains/etc. vacation photos
for the next one. 'Til next time.
