Due to an oversight, Class Notes for the Class of 1948 were omitted from the spring issue of Kellogg World. We sincerely regret this error and reproduce these notes, in addition to the summer updates from class representative Karl Abt.

Albert Pinder '48 of Grinnell, Iowa, has been the publisher of the Grinnell Herald-Register since 1974. He has received several awards, including an honorary degree from Grinnell College in 1996 and the National Newspaper Association's Amos Award in 1999. One project distinguishing him in the newspaper world has been the foreign-visitor program, which he and his family initiated in 1962. Under that program, more than 400 foreign journalists and others have visited the Pinders and their newspaper offices. Another project has been a long-standing internship program offering newspaper experience
to Grinnell journalism students. Al and his wife, Dorothy, have a family of six children and two grandchildren. They also enjoy visits to the East Coast, to Chicago and to sports events, as well as participation in church and civic
activities.

Dorothy Fredrickson Sundberg '48 of Addison, Ill., served as secretary-treasurer of the Fredrickson construction company in Elmwood Park, Ill., until 1993. Her husband, Howard, was the company's president during those years, during which they built both residences and commercial buildings. They have two children and two grandchildren. Dorothy was greatly delighted by her recent 75th birthday celebration with family and friends.

James Silliman '48 of Lake Forest, Ill., still practices in his law firm, Eckhart McSwain Silliman, in downtown Chicago. His undergraduate studies were interrupted by service in the 8th Air Force, based in England, from where he completed 30 combat missions. After graduation, he worked for two years and then joined the Class of 1953 at the Northwestern Law School. He and his wife, Lorraine Surman Silliman (Arts and Sciences '43), have been enjoying visiting their children and traveling overseas.

Elliott Shapiro '48 of Highland Park, Ill., operated his own business, Stacy Products, until 1989. Also a veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy following graduation from the V-12 Program at the University of Utah. The V-12 class enjoyed a 50th reunion at Salt Lake City a few years ago. He and his wife, Nancy Obenhaus Shapiro (Arts and Sciences '50), have three children and three grandchildren. Elliott has served as a township trustee in Highland Park for 25 years.

Thomas Zimniewicz '48 of Glenview, Ill. continues to work as a senior vice president for David A. Noyes brokers in Chicago. He and his wife, Mary, have four children and six grandchildren. They enjoy Marco Island in Florida and Powers Lake in Wisconsin, and have visited Israel, Europe and Alaska. In addition, they have traveled to South America with the Couples' Club of '48 Chicago campus graduates.

Morris Davis '48 of Highland Park, Ill. is the retired controller for the Fabricon Corp. of Chicago. He and his wife, Roslyn, have three children and six grandchildren and particularly like Tucson.

Charles Armstrong '48 of Hinsdale, Ill. is still associated with his food brokerage firm, AMBI of Westchester, Ill. He and his wife, Phyllis Hancock Armstrong (Arts and Sciences '49) have three children and three grand-children. They enjoy both Florida and Tucson. Chuck is very active in his church's men's club and its choir.
