EMP-60
Rohit
Kashyap
and his wife, Deepa, welcomed their beautiful daughter, Riya,
on Dec.11. They are enjoying those early baby days.
Mike
Rafi had some big career news to share. His recent promotion
demonstrates that Kellogg networking is alive and well in
EMP-60. Mike had this to say: "After eight years at JLG,
I resigned. Erin and I are headed to Argentina for a vacation
before I begin the new job. I have taken a position working
for Ron Keating at his new company, Contech Construction Products,
as the chief administrative and development officer. We are
very exited about the move and I will commute until the kids
are out of the school in June and then we will move to the
Cincinnati area."

Congratulations, Mike
(we knew those photos of Texas Ronnie would come in handy),
and we wish you all the best in your new role. His mobile
will remain the same and his new e-mail is rafim@contech-cpi.com.
I am so excited to
share Tom Marry's exciting update. While he
is still at Modine, the company has promoted him to the regional
vice president of Asia. We have a place to stay in Shanghai
now, and here is his update: "We moved to Shanghai in
December. My wife, Teri, is continuing on with her position
at Intermatic and will be working out of her office in Hong
Kong and our residence in Shanghai. This all happened pretty
quickly.
"In this position,
I am spending lots of time in Chennai, India, where our new
plant is under construction, as well as the major cities in
India where our customers are located. Lots of time spent
in Asan City, Korea, where our plant and engineering center
is, and last but not least, our Asian HQ and three manufacturing
facilities in China. Bottom line is I am on the road lots
and will return to the U.S. every eight weeks or so for both
family (Denver) and work-related meetings.
"We are enjoying
the change. Very interesting moving from the farm to a city
of 17 million. I feel tall and somewhat out of place. The
people are great, very friendly. I know lots of our classmates
have been to Shanghai. It is a very Western city with nonstop
things to do. My new numbers will be added soon to the Kellogg
site.
"We
had Kellogg Professor Tim Calkins do a branding presentation
for the Modine corporate staff during our global management
meeting in December. He did a great job. We learned lots and
have to chew on how we carry it forward."
David
Krauskopf checked in and sent me some beautiful photos
of his family. His update: "Keeping busy while running
a large multi-national business is hard work, but David Krauskopf
has done so by settling in northern Virginia and overseeing
his investment in Hamanasi Adventure Resort from afar. In
the two years of being out of Belize, his business has grown
to over $3 million in sales with high operating margins. Hamanasi
has been ranked No. 1 in Belize and No. 2 in Central America
with more than 120 customer reviews on the No. 1 hotel review
site in the world (tripadvisor.com). Plans are in place
to continue expanding the resort at a steady pace. David and
his wife, Dana, now have a child, Xander (2). In his spare
time, David has been coaching wrestling at Langley High School
that is ranked No. 4 in the state of Virginia and volunteering
as a SCORE counselor working with small businesses and startups
in the area. Plans include investing in new businesses most
likely in northern Virginia."
Luis
Orbegoso has had a fantastic year. Colleen and Luis welcomed
their son Carlos on Nov. 17. Luis had this to say: "He
is doing fantastic. We have been thoroughly enjoying him,
and I finally learned how to change diapers without duct tape."
On
the professional front, Luis left GE after 12-plus years in
September for United Technologies Corporate as vice president
of product management for UTC's fire and security division.
He quickly moved within the company and has recently accepted
a position as vice president and general manager of Lenel
Systems International (wholly owned UTC company). Lenel is
a global leader in the development and integration of high
technology security solutions. He is really excited about
the opportunity and will be moving (again) to Rochester, N.Y.
So if anyone is out that way, please look them up.
Randy
McCreary was brief in his update that he bought a rental
business in Bethany Beach, Del., and is working to grow and
get things going.
It
was great to get an update from Alfonso Parra about
his calm winter. He had a relaxing break at home with Heidi
and the boys with very mild weather in Dallas. However, 2008
has kicked off with a very different and fast pace while he
is working feverishly on strategy and M&A activity in
Silicon Valley at IBM. He did mention that we should all get
on Facebook to stay connected with each other. I agree, get
on it EMP-60.
Our globe trotter classmate,
Patricia Harris, wrote to tell of her latest adventure:
"I visited Bangkok and the Khmer temples at Angkor in
Camboda in late December and early January. I really had a
great time, people were very friendly, the food was great
and the sights (particularly the Bangkok's Grand Palace and
Wat Arun, and Angkor Wat) were really interesting."
As
for me, Eileen Moore, Eddie and I survived our
first Mardi Gras and partied with the best of them. It was
fun getting an insider's view on the parades. We have done
a fantastic business with the Sugar Bowl, BCS game and now
the NBA All Star Game. Please keep in touch, miss you all
and hope to see you soon. |
