Justin Burks '04 married to Alyson Ryder on Sept. 8 in Georgetown. He writes in, "The weather cooperated, the food and wine were fantastic, no one was arrested and the toasts were hilarious. There was much boogying by the Kellogg crew, which included Brian Fox and Putney Cloos, Ankur Manglik, all '04, and his new wife Vandana Tandon '05, Val and Sophie Hawkins, both '04, and Will Nolen '04. Thanks again to everyone there for making our big day so special." |

2004
— Full-Time
Consorting
with royalty, bringing back "The Big Easy," picking
up and moving (cross-country, inter-state, trans-oceanic,
intra-neighborhood, multi-cultural, bi-lingual—you name
it, it's been done), and shouting "I Do's" from
coast to coast are among some of the happenings this time
around. Bonus activity: See (and submit) how many Kellogg
couples you can spot below. Points awarded to "most correct"
and "most creative" answers. Winners announced whenever
the next issue comes out.
The gentlemen from
Japan send an ohayo to all, along with their latest
comings and goings. Kent Nakagawa has joined Boston
Consulting Group as a manager. Koji Miura left Bombay
for Singapore in February with his firm, Eisai Pharmaceutical.
Mikio Kawahara has gone from paper to pills, transferring
from Toppan's printing group to its pharmaceutical venture
as a director. Nori Kubo notes, "In my case, I
did not change my company, but my company changed its name"
— SABIC Innovative Plastics was recently divested from
GE Plastics. And, lest you think it's been all work and no
play for these men, they still manage time for classmate reunions
with children in tow .

Class
of '04 baby bundles keep arriving, and we happily welcome
them into the Kellogg family. Katherine and David Welch
received Harrison Walker Welch on Jan. 31, 2007. He joins
big brother Corbin (3).
Ojas
Wadivkar met up with Mohammed ("Mo") El Hage
in Dubai, where Mo works in the strategy department for the
Sheikh of Dubai. Ojas writes: "Mo showed me around Dubai
and also took me to the Emirates Towers to see his office.
Dubai is a neat and exciting city [ed. note: standard consulting
understatement]. I was there on a six-week project with AT
Kearney." Mo, so when's the alumni GIM trip?
After
relocating to Michigan in January 2007 to work for Kellogg
Company in Battle Creek, Don and Melea Cumming are excited to announce the arrival of their baby
girl, Magnolia Leigh Cumming on Oct. 26. Happily, her big
sister Sabina Belle (3) has embraced her baby sister with
open arms.
George
Ye writes: "I got married in April 2007 and almost
simultaneously relocated from N.J. to Southern California
for a new job. I moved out of Johnson & Johnson (reluctantly)
and started a position with Advanced Medical Optics, an ophthalmic
medical device company, where I work in strategy and corporate
development. During the job transition, I happily discovered
that Kellogg alums had a strong presence in the healthcare
sector and either directly led to offers or connected me with
strong leads. In fact, my boss is a Kellogg alum and the person
who I replaced is too!" Proof that the Kellogg connection
helps advance your career. Now send in your class dues. (Jim
and Jamie, there's the gratuitous plug I promised.)
Amanda (Nelson)
Greenwald and Jason Greenwald are in Indo. Yes, as in Indonesia, and not for the
surfing. The Kellogg couple (tell me you spotted this one,
the "Nelson" in parentheses is a dead giveaway)
moved last fall as Jason is working on the construction of
an oil and gas platform for Hess Corporation. Amanda writes,
"We are having fun exploring Indonesia and have enjoyed
connecting with Tiur Hutabarat, her husband Raymond and baby girl Darlene."
Kevin Bae has also recently moved to Jakarta, working as a
diplomat at the U.S. Embassy.
Asia-based alums continue to grow in number. Conveniently
in time to host all Olympic travelers to the region. Anna
(Octaviano) Chua and
husband Paul have traded London for Hong Kong this January,
as Paul has joined the HK office of Alvarez & Marsal.
With an amazing year developing marketing strategy at Zenith
Watches U.K. under her belt, Anna is enjoying her transition
back to Asia and proximity to family.
Kim
Matthews has moved to Houston, where she has switched
to the chemicals company within ExxonMobil, is a proud first-time
homeowner, has discovered the joys of being an aunt, and is
"loving life!"
Weighing
in with news from the Northwest, Sam Heyworth writes
from Seattle: "The year 2007 was an amazing one for us
and we're looking forward to a great 2008. Our daughter Julia
was born in May and her big brother Ryan (3) loves making
her laugh. I helped launch Amazon MP3, Amazon.com's digital
music service, in September, and it is doing extremely well.
We also just launched a year-long promotion with Pepsi that
lets customers get Amazon MP3 downloads with codes from special
bottles. Check it out at PepsiStuff.com. Those work
projects have kept me busy but it has been a lot of fun. We
enjoy seeing Ashley and Kevin Hagwell and Lauren
and Josh Hutto (although it isn't as easy to get out
with two kids), and were glad to have Ayesha Harper
join the Seattle (and Amazon.com) alums out here recently.
For those traveling to Seattle, look us up." Best wishes,
Sam and Hwashing Heyworth.
Michael Moran
and wife Petra celebrated the birth of their daughter, Lillian,
on Sept. 18, a few weeks earlier than expected. Lilly officially
owes her parents one Brian Oxley-chaperoned trip to Belgium
and France. (So young, and already in such debt!) Everyone
is doing well and welcomes visitors to lovely Cleveland.
Buenos Aires has been
crossroads central lately, with classmates from around the
world passing through for personal and professional reasons.
Stacy Gibbons spent Thanksgiving with Juan Pablo
Rossi and Maren Lau in November. The trio traded
turkey for a steak dinner out and took in the finals of a
championship polo tournament when Stacy was not off glacier
trekking in Patagonia. Aaron Martin '03 and Sapna Chadha
passed through on separate occasions for work, while Rafael
Prado dropped in from Peru to see The Police in concert.
Martin Claure and wife Carmen visited family and friends
in December, on break from their real estate company in Panama
City. Gorka Sarasa has been living in Buenos Aires
since May, on a consulting project, and is finally off the
crutches that had him bar-hobbling instead of hopping these
past months (though sympathy had its benefits).
Yumi
Clevenger sends her update on the Clevenger-Lee Family.
"We have a beautiful daughter, Miyako, who is 18 months
old. I am still working at General Mills. Eric is working
for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. A happy life and
happy family." |
