1996
— Full-Time
In
October, John Glushik, Robyn Runyan Glushik
and Rick Stearns met at a mutual friend's wedding in
Italy. We had a great time catching up and sharing a villa.
Curt Brockelman
has had a busy year with fellow Kelloggians. He writes: "I
recently returned from a fly fishing trip on the Ponoi River
in Russia with Trent Carmichael. I ran into Ken
Brodkowitz in NYC and he is launching a new hedge fund,
New Land Capital Management. I missed a dinner in New York
with Kurt Plumer, who is doing well at Highlander Capital
in Dallas. Last ski season, I got together with Park Shaper,
Karl Wimer, Matt Mochary and Steven Graubart
in Vail. This summer, I played golf at The Country Club with
Jeff Ackerman and Steven Graubart. Jeff has opened
a few more restaurants, as the northeast franchise owner of
Qdoba Mexican Grill. Steven is the CEO of US Fiduciary, an
asset management firm with brokers across the county. I saw
Todd Guenther, Todd Kovacevich, Rick Stearns
and John Curtin last Spring at JC's 40th birthday dove
hunt in south Texas. We had a great time. I don't think many
would recognize JC as he has lost mucho pounds and looks great.
In that vain, I am attempting to run 40 miles in my 40th year
and have completed the Hartford Half Marathon and will be
competing in the Boston Marathon as a fundraiser for MetroLacrosse
as part of that goal."
Ghen Akiyama writes
to tell us that Muneaki "Michael" Nishimura
recently published a book The Next Generation Sales Mix
Model from Toyo Keizai Publishing in Japan.
Madhur
Dayal and his wife, Jill, visited Detroit in September
and joined Paul Andersen and Shankar Kiru and
their families for a wonderful brunch in Mexican town. After
driving around refusing to ask directions, Shankar finally
reached the destination where the whole gang was able to feast
on chimichangas and flautas for a fantastic bargain. Shankar
insisted on a personal tour of a Detroit manufacturing facility,
while Madhur and Jill just kept looking around for a way to
get out of the shop floor as quickly as their legs would take
them. Better luck next time to future Detroit visitors.
As
part of their annual college football weekend, Ted Oldham,
Tim Leland and friends made the trip to Austin to see
University of Texas beat rival Nebraska in October.
Sven Zehnder
writes: "The highlight of the last year for me was the
birth of our third child, Brian Dean Cedric, who was born
on Dec. 7. Unfortunately, I see him, my wife Jadi and our
two other children (Robin and Angelina) only on weekends.
My role at Nike as marketing director for Germany, Austria,
Switzerland and Slovenia keeps me very busy but it's really
exciting. The first three months, since I joined in October,
were the most challenging ones in my professional career,
but the most fulfilling. If anybody ever stops in Frankfurt
or Zurich Switzerland, please look me up."
Allen Lueth
has been elected as a board director for CNinsure, China's
largest independent insurance brokerage. The company went
public Oct. 30. He and his wife, Hsin-Hsin Tsai, are
still living in Shanghai and welcome Kellogg visitors.
Pete
Disser was recently promoted to vice president corporate
development at NiSource. He leads the M&A and strategy
work for the energy/utility holding company. Pete has two
boys, Joe (8) and Jack (12). They live in Long Beach, Ind.,
(yes, Indiana) and enjoy playing in the water during the two
months per year when it's warm enough, and snowboarding and
playing soccer the rest of the year.
Heather
Hartung Vacek and husband Gary continue to live in Raleigh,
N.C., with their son who will turn 10 this year. As of this
past fall, Heather is a doctoral student at Duke University
studying theology and American religious history.
Carol Cannady Reber
writes: "My husband, Robert, and I welcomed our beautiful
son, Ryan, into the world last October during a Bay Area-wide
nurses strike that began an hour or two after I got to the
hospital. Imagine 150 nurses from out of state walking into
a place they've never been in before trying to care for patients
in the middle of labor. Quite an operations study/disaster.
Fortunately, I finally managed to get my epidural right before
passing out. I'm back at work now as vice president of marketing
for 585 Wine Partners. We have some terrific new wines: Steelhead
from Dry Creek Valley, Picket Fence from Russian River Valley
and Bivio, Italia. Please try them out and let me know what
you think."
Patrick Tham
has moved from Booz Allen Hamilton to be managing principal
of Greater China at Towers Perrin. He will still be based
in Shanghai. He hopes any Kelloggians who come by that part
of the world will drop him a line.
Raphaela
and John Dunlap are pleased to announce the birth of
their son, Philip Dunlap, on Dec 21. Philip is brother to
Oliver (5) and Lexie (3). Everyone is doing well in Toronto.
Julie Stahl Peachey
and husband Paul just had their second child. Annaliese was
born on Jan. 21 and joins big brother Erik (2). They still
live in Washington, D.C., and Julie continues to work (now
part-time) in microfinance for the Grameen Foundation.
Alex Roth writes
with a professional update. He has left Monitor Group and
joined Bain & Company as a partner in their London office.
Christopher Siebert joined AlixPartners' case management
services practice in Chicago last fall. The company is a global
restructuring, consulting and financial advisory firm. |
