Pietro Brambilla and his wife Katia welcomed the arrival of Fabrice Brambilla, who was born Feb. 28 in Paris, where the family lives. On the work front, Pietro has been with L'Oreal since after graduation, where he began work in Italy as the financial controller. In 2009, Pietro moved from Italy to the Paris headquarters of L'Oreal, where he is now the financial controller for Western Europe (of L'Oreal, that is).
Enrique Carrizosa, Mereke and Annabelle (2) welcomed Aria to the world on dad's birthday. The Carrizosas are enjoying life in Bogotá, Colombia, and are willing hosts to their Kellogg friends who want to visit. No babysitting required.
Brian and Daisy Gauck are excited to announce the birth of Charlotte, born Aug. 5. The family is doing great and San Francisco is excited to earn another Gauck.
Brigette Wolf and Corey Klein welcomed their "yummy" baby girl, Joslyn Sydney Klein, on Aug. 26. She measured 7 pounds, 2 ounces, and is winning the hearts of all she meets. They are looking forward to meeting all the new "classmates" from 2003 parents and hope everyone is well.
Marie and Rob '04 Solem underwent a family expansion program with great success. Welcome to the newest Solem, Megan, who joins older sister Kayla!
Mahesh Narang and wife Nupur became proud parents of baby boy Kavish. Kavish, which means "leader among poets," was born Sept. 9 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Shari Gordon White and her husband Laurence welcomed the arrival of their first baby on Sept. 11. New son Evan Jonah White is doing great.
Finally, Jose Etchegoyen's family celebrated the arrival of third son Tomas in September. Congrats to the Etchegoyen clan!
The Floral Arrangers Thank You: Our sole wedding this issue goes to none other than Bernard Sfeir, who married Mayssa Chehab on May 8 in the 12th century Royaumont Abbey near Paris. Among the friends who were present was a subset of the historical Rocket Pockets Kellogg Band, Rich Ryu and Rob Levak. Priti Choksi and her husband Rachad joined from San Francisco, Anthonie Vanrensburg and his wife Natasha Taylor joined from Chicago, and Sandrine Murcia '04 attended from Paris. It was a highly rock 'n roll wedding as the bride opened the first dance by jumping on stage and playing "Call Me" from Blondie on a white Fender that belonged to Motley Crue. The groom followed her on stage with Rich and Rob. Jamming continued with many other friends coming on stage to perform while the audience was dancing. The newly married couple took a month off, honeymooning in Indonesia, to recover.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics Thanks You: After six years in Edinburgh, Scotland, Henning and Cheril von Barsewisch moved to sunny Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, where Henning took a job as the CSO for Concentrix, a solar energy company offering commercial turnkey concentrator photovoltaic power plants. Cheril is in a career transition, more to come on this in the next edition.
Remember Andre Winarto? We do. He just finished one year in his new role looking after Western Australia's electricity distribution network. He gets out and about around WA fairly often (that's Western Australia, not Washington, folks), since it's all about keeping the lights on, which is a pretty big task for their network, one of the largest isolated grids in the world. Fortunately, the job has pretty good work-life balance, which allows Andre to spend lots of time coaching soccer with sons Owen (6) and Dean (4). Andre writes that the highlight for him this year was flying to Singapore to watch Liverpool FC play an exhibition match, and he adds that he's still "soccer mad."
Aspiring entrepreneur Ajay Chawan is still aspiring. After almost two years of product development (on top of six years of work), Ajay is ready to launch a line of pasta meals under the brand Smarter Foods (smarterfoods.com). Smarter incorporates numerous technologies Ajay's father (the real brains of the operation) invented. You'll hopefully see them on store shelves in the coming months. Also keeping Ajay and his wife Britta busy is their son Jaideep. Little J is a constant source of amusement. He is getting ready for his newest trick: crawling! When he was not making pasta, changing diapers or cleaning up spit-up, Ajay managed to complete three triathlons this summer. He is hoping to do more next year, including at least one Olympic distance race.
Speaking of entrepreneurs who look like Tom Brown, Tom Brown is excited to announce that New Urban Property Services is open for business in Chicago. You can (and should) check them out at newurbanps.com, and please don't hesitate to refer anyone you know who might be looking for a property in Chicagoland. New Urban is a real estate brokerage company focusing on homes located near transit locations. Their Web site is the first in Chicago to allow a user to search for a home by CTA or Metra station. They have entered into a joint marketing program with I-GO cars, and New Urban has recently announced an incentive program for its new customers: free I-GO memberships and driving credits up to $1,000!
Chris Bayham accepted a position as chief information officer at OptumHealth Specialty Benefits, a division within the health and well-being business of UnitedHealth Group. He is responsible for technology strategy, planning, delivery and operations for the division. Chris and his wife Valerie relocated to Columbia, M.D.
John Kim and his family moved to Tokyo on Oct. 1, where John is senior director for marketing strategy and calendar planning for McDonald's Japan. It's been over 20 years since John left Japan, so he's been looking forward to roaming the streets of Tokyo with his sons Justin (9) and Jordan (7), looking for the world's best tonkatsu.
Joanna Shebson is officially a blogger! After taking a blog workshop in June and combining it with her experience in children's marketing, Joanna started a blog about kids' activities in Jerusalem, Israel. The site has really taken off and they are the main online source in English for kids' events in Jerusalem. They had over 10,000 visitors their first two months and three articles written about the site in local and international papers. This blog fills a need and is a great niche business. If you are planning to visit Israel with kids or have friends who are, let them know about FunInJerusalem.com.
Karen Lee started a new gig as associate director of recruitment for the Broad Center for the Management of School Systems, a long-winded title for a spinoff of the Broad Foundation. Their mission is to raise student achievement by recruiting, training and supporting executive leadership talent from across America to become the next generation of urban school district leaders. Established in 2001, the center identifies talented leaders from education, business, the military, nonprofit organizations and government who have the passion, knowledge and skill to take on executive leadership roles in urban education. Karen will remain a senior admissions consultant (albeit in a more limited capacity) for The MBA Exchange, helping young analysts and other 27-somethings apply to theworld's leading b-schools.
Huw and Tindley Whipple Gilbert have decided to change things up a little. After six years in NYC, they are making a big move overseas to the Middle East. Huw received a great opportunity with PepsiCo in Dubai. The family moved Oct. 14. Tindley has left her job and will be staying home with Pryor for a while to help the family acclimate to their new surroundings. The assignment could be about three years but Tindley plans on making it back to the States for the summers. If you are in Dubai, please let them know. And if you've always wanted to visit, now you have a place to stay.
Paige Francis writes that she's still working at Starwood Hotels & Resorts (six years) and is enjoying her latest role running global brand marketing for three brands: Four Points by Sheraton and Starwood's two newly launched brands, Aloft and Element. She's living in Westport, Conn., on the coast with husband David and their toddler/preschooler, Elle (2), who was born in March 2007. Funny enough, Paige and Gayatri Batra found themselves in the same "mom's group." Small world!
Corinne Foo and Steve Atkins moved to Basel, Switzerland. Corinne is working in strategic marketing for Novartis and Steve is a gentleman of leisure. Prior to departing, they enjoyed a night out with Barry Grant, Javier Rendon and Karthik Vasudevan '02 celebrating the SF Asian American Film Festival by sampling food at Tim Volkema's award-winning Kasa restaurant as a prelude to watching "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi." En route to Basel they caught up with George Verghese in Singapore. Steve and Corinne are beginning to settle into Basel. Please look them up if you're passing this way.
The Travel Industry Thanks You: Pam Supanwand and Jan Henrich '02 headed to Argentina for a little R&R — baby-free. Buenos Aires and Mendoza City were in the plans, as were winery visits. Pam reports that she's still working at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Beautiful daughter Bianca (2) is getting big. Unlike her mom, this gal loves shopping, shoes, and purses. She even likes going to CVS to look at makeup. Must get that from Jan.
Barry Grant flew up to Seattle to visit Rob and Jennifer Stephenson in early September and, as the kids say, had a "hella" good time. Old Kellogg friends, including Marla and Eric Whaley, Julia and Neal Freeland '02, Chip '02 and Lori Craw, and Jessica Yang ate, drank Manny's Pale Ale and watched a lot of college ball at a great Stephenson house party. Then, Rob and Barry were off to a camping and rock-climbing trip in the central Washington desert, just like old times at Devil's Lake, Wis.
And last, but by no means least, Katja '04 and Dean Lindo traveled to Oktoberfest with Niklas for the first time. Chicago Oktoberfest, that is. Psych!
Sherry and Joey Olivier completed the Virginia Beach Rock 'n' Roll half marathon this summer, with Sherry beating Joey by only a minute and a half. Guess who came in second place? |
