1997 — Full-Time

Several classmates submitted a request to recognize a great act of kindness that was performed by one of our own, Warren Heffelfinger. Warren donated a kidney to a young boy in his hometown earlier this year — a boy that Warren had never met before. The boy had run out of options and his family reached out to their community to try and find someone who was both a match to their son and willing to make such a huge sacrifice. Warren was their answer. Warren, his wife Tori and their three daughters made the decision together to go ahead with the surgery/donation and give this little boy a chance for a future. Warren hopes that his story will make others more aware of organ donation — and most importantly, realize that you can donate a kidney and remain completely normal (or, in his words, "as normal as he was before"). You can hear more about Warren's story at abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/assignment_7&id=7018010. We commend you, Warren, and know that many will be inspired by your great deed.

Addison Snell has plunged into the world of entrepreneurship. In July, he bought out his company's market research line of business and founded InterSect360 Research, a market intelligence and consulting practice focused on the supercomputing industry, in which he has accidentally become an expert. He works from his home in Sunnyvale, Calif., where he has lived since graduation with his wife Amy and two sons, Connor (9) and Casey (7). The Snells saw Ruben Cors and his beautiful family on their visit to San Francisco, allowing Addison to thank (and curse) Ruben for helping him pass market research all those years ago.

The recession has inspired many of us to grab the bull by the horns ... and try something new! That's exactly what Annette Herz did when she decided to leave Stride Rite as director of product to join two former Gillette colleagues and establish their own new product marketing company, Compass Marketing Innovation (compassmarketinginnovation.com). Ironically enough, business has been brisk during this downturn as more companies look to first outsource their marketing to better assess the market potential of a new idea. On a personal side, Annette and her big and little men (one patient husband and two rambunctious toddlers) visited friends and family in France and Germany this summer and wished they could have stayed longer to hook up with some Kellogg friends. Also, another side business has been helping coordinate the family bed and breakfast, so anyone interested in a holiday in the Bavarian Alps should reach out to Annette at annette@compassmarketinginnovation.com. It's got a gorgeous setting, skiing, sledding and BEER!

Luis Giolo and MarianaPostel met Nancy Blair in July in Calgary for a wonderful dinner and got invaluable tips on how to enjoy the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

After four interesting years in Asia, Japan and Singapore with Abbott, Erik Zimmer, his wife Monica and their two children, Charlotte and Frederik, are moving to Spain, near Barcelona. In November, after seven years with Abbott, Erik changed companies. They are looking forward to spending more time with their family. Spain is also a good country for Erik's latest hobby, rally car driving.

Emmanuel Mercier and his wife Muriel just had their second child. The M&M family now has added another M. Marine is their first child and Ludivine is their second. As they say, no crisis for M&M's, +33 percent in one day!

Danny Rosenberg received the 2009 Fellows Medal from the Illinois Venture Capital Association (IVCA). He is a managing director of Sterling Partners, a founding member of IVCA and served as IVCA's chairman. He will be presented with the award on Dec. 7 in Chicago.

Steve Busby was appointed the senior managing director of Greenwich Associates. Busby joined the firm in 1991 and ran Greenwich Associates' proprietary research and consulting division and was head of marketing. He will continue to oversee these functions in his new position, in addition to assuming firm-wide management responsibilities.

Will Henderson and his wife Joy welcomed their very first bundle of joy into the world on Aug. 8. Cambryn Iris Henderson was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver. She is healthy and happy and already melting her daddy's heart with her big beautiful smile.
