Chicago
Alumni
Club of Chicago (KACC)
The
Kellogg Alumni Club of Chicago had a busy summer hosting social
and educational events that kept our alums throughout the
city and suburbs active and in touch. KACC's summer reading
included several author and book club events including a popular
evening with Ted Fishman, author of China,
Inc.: How the Rise of the Next Superpower Challenges America
and the World. The downtown group also
hosted two book club get-togethers to discuss Winning
by Jack Welch and Freakonomics
by Levitt and Dubner. The north/northwest group's book club
discussed Disney War
by James B. Stewart.
This year marked the second annual Private Equity, Entrepreneurship
and Investment Banking event co-hosted by KACC and University
of Chicago GSB. The evening featured a panel of speakers from
these industries sharing their perspectives for Kellogg and
GSB students and alums.
KACC music lovers took advantage of the warm, dry weather
this summer to attend a concert in Millennium Park of the
Grant Park Orchestra performing A Midsummer Night's
Dream and joined the party animals (and fish) for "Jazzin'
at the Shedd," a jazz concert on the terrace at the John
G. Shedd aquarium. Alums also met for a night under the stars
to hear the Gypsy Kings at Ravinia and several alumni families
attended Carmen for Kids,
also at Ravinia.
Our more sports-minded alums tested their skills at
the annual summer golf outing sponsored by the KACC north/northwest
and west groups. The golfers made a full day of it with an
18-hole scramble, lunch and dinner at Seven Bridges Golf Club.
Several alumni families came out to the old ballpark to watch
the Schaumburg Flyers take on the Kansas City T-Bones. KACC
families met for a pre-game picnic and the kids gathered on
the field before the game to meet the players and get autographs.
On Nov. 9, the KACC hosted a discussion of the book
The Power of Positive Networking – How
to Leap Forward in Your Work and Life featuring speaker, expert and
author Darcy Rezac, with his co-authors Gayle Hallgren-Rezac
and Judy Thomson. Rezac shared his trademarked seven-step
process to help everyone avoid the "toads" and make
the right connections in business and life.
