Connections

The End of Year party was a blast, and we want to thank the many groups that performed and hosted parts of the evening. Also a surprise: the many talented impersonations of favorite professors we witnessed!

The laughs were many and a very select crowd rang in the dawn. Among the final crowd hailing the sunshine over Lake Michigan: Amy Schuman, Mo O'Gorman, Luis Nunez, Mark Bernhard, Julie Kanak and Tom Malkin. There is no way that the rest of us can keep up with that crowd!

Group F, consisting of Jeff "Professor" Gordon, Jeff "Wilks" Wilkison, Michelle " Michy" Kabele, Katie "Little B" Bylak, and Micheal "you're robbin me" Morgan enjoyed a Sox game on July 6 at U.S. Cellular Field. We understand that the "Pass the Cup" game was a rousing success for Mike when he finally won a few bucks at the end of the game! Thank God for that, now maybe he'll stop whining about a few singles.

Mohan Warrior writes to tell me that he is planning a little golf event for his study group in August, and he just celebrated his 21st anniversary with his bride Padmasree. He had this event announced on NPR!

Congratulations to Bob Rossi for completing the BigFoot Triathlon! He finished in ninth place in his age group and did a great job overall!

Stan "Stanimal" Menezes had me falling off my chair laughing at his update. He is waiting for his promo and using his MBA bag of tricks to make things happen, but so far, he has to take whatever comes his way and deal with it! He went on to say just how he has to deal with itŠ but we will leave that out of the fine print.

Amy Schuman wrote in to tell of a great week out in Oregon and spending some fun time with her family. She also sent on some great photos from her graduation party, where Tom Malkin and Mark Bernhard sang for the troops! See our EMP59.com Web site for more pictures! She hopes to connect with more EMP classmates at the Shedd Aquarium event in the summer.

Just a quick update from yours truly, Katie Bylak, to tell you that my husband, Tony, will join EMP-65 this fall. He is vigorously working on those "Math Camp" discs and stressing out already! Let the fun begin! Spending most of the summer coaching cheerleaders and gymnasts, now have around 275 girls in the program and just ran my first 5k! Did the Frontier Days Stampede in Arlington on the 4th of July weekend! And yes, I finished, for all of you who are snickering out thereŠ

Group A is keeping the drive alive with some breakfast meetings, according to Steve "Dancing Boy" Winandy. Hey Group A — come out and see the rest of us sometime!

EMP-59, joining forces with the NW segment of the KACC, held a fun get together on July 14 at The Cubby Bear in Lincolnshire, Ill.

FUTURE EVENTS:

Now you can get the news even faster. With the help of Michelle Kabele and Rana Singh, we now have our own Web site, so visit emp59.com for the latest updates, events and pictures of your classmates.

Pitter patter of little feet!

Ravi Reddy and Suma had a baby boy June 10. He was 7 pounds and 20 inches. We're still waiting to hear the name, but Ravi missed graduation for this exciting event! Congratulations!

Announcements

We regret to inform you of the recent bereavement that Tom Shanahan suffered with the loss of his father in the beginning of July. We extend our deepest sympathy to Tom and his family at this time.

Connections

EMP-59 is still trying to "hold onto the moment" this summer in a number of impromptu and fun events.

The KACC golf outing held at Seven Bridges of Lisle in August was a success with a wild group of EMP-59ers: Mo O'Gorman, Dave Henry, Katie Bylak and Jeff "Crazy Taxi Driver" Smith making a foursome. Julie Kanak, Mark Bernhard, Lauren Reid and Dan Kite filling out another foursome. The laughs kept coming as a serious Dr. O'Gorman looked at Ms. Bylak on the 17th hole and questioned, "Have you ever been to a driving range, Katie?" A sad comment on my golfing prowess Š

A quick night of drinks at the Cubby Bear in July in Lincolnshire, Ill. had Michelle Kabele, Dave Henry, Bruce O'Connell, Jeff Smith, Luis Nunez and yours truly sharing a few laughs and memories.

Group A hosted a breakfast for the early bird crowd and had good attendance at Walker Brothers Pancakes on Aug. 17. Seen sharing a few omelets for old time's sake and reminiscing about the Allen Center breakfasts were Steve Winandy, Amy "where's my hammock" Schuman, Jeff Smith, Stan "Stanimal" Menezes, Jim Galante, Tim Barry, Troy Vellinga and Katie Bylak.

Congratulations to Bob "Rossinator" Rossi for completing three triathlons this summer! His best event, swimming, would make Professor Dewar proud! We all know he secretly harbors the need to impress Dewar in all that he does.

Barb Zeifer wrote in to tell me that she just moved to New York and loves the new role. She manages two hospital radiology departments and is getting used to life in the Big Apple. She did indicate that the street that they live on for temp housing had some interesting residents in the evenings Š hmmm. Babs Š don't get "hooked" up in that crowd!

Jim Galante wrote to tell me that he is boring Š has no news Š and it sucks. It sounds like someone needs a great big EMP hug! Where is Will "Huggy bear" Jones when you need him?

Mohan Warrior sent a brief update telling of a fun golf event for their group with Vince Lima and an association that he is involved with. The TiECon Midwest conference was Oct. 1 at the downtown Hyatt (tiecon-midwest.org). They roped in Ed Zander as the keynote. Mohan is also hosting a panel on "Emerging Technologies: What's Hot, What's Not."

Also, Mohan indicates that things are going well with his new company Alfalight, and that the company completed its sixth consecutive growth quarter and that they are expanding again after the lull last year. Never doubted this man's success, did we?

The Bylak BBQ was fun and we had great weather to share the event with our friends. Hanging with the homeys were: Pam Sievers, Michelle Kabele, Lauren Reid, Jeff Wilkison, Katie B, Jeff Gordon, Jeff Smith, Mo O'Gorman, Stan Menezes, Jeff Smith, Tom Malkin and our spouses and significant others. Glad we could connect, share a few Hong Kong stories and questionable melatonin moments and fill in the blanks for those of us who couldn't remember it all. Visions of an Aussie and a petite blonde runner still flash in my head from time to time Š oh, what a night!

Jeff Gordon and his lovely wife, Cathy, celebrated a happy 25th wedding anniversary in style with a great trip to Hawaii this summer! They enjoyed the sights and did some snorkeling in Maui and had a great vacation! Congrats on this milestone!

Tom Shanahan had a fun respite this summer in Vancouver, B.C., where he went horseback riding each day. He really loved the experience and now has a new appreciation for Julie Kanak's love of the equestrian life!

Our own Michelle Kabele is keeping busy this summer. This gal never quits, as she is now enrolled in film editing school and attends weekly. Additionally, she volunteers at Ravinia to help run payroll for the staff each week. We will await her next short subject film. Someday we will see her name in lights! Keep going Michy!

Jeff Wilkison and his better half, Laura, spent an exciting vacation in Italy this summer! We hope that they enjoyed this fabulous vacation and can't wait to see the pictures. We hope Laura made him purchase some "real" designer bags over there. "Grade AA++, I swear it is!"

FUTURE EVENTS:

Now you can get the news even faster, with the help of Michelle Kabele and Rana Singh, we now have our own Web site, so visit emp59.com, for the latest updates, events and pictures of your classmates.

Pitter patter of little feet

Dr. Ed Blumen wrote to tell me, "I bet I'm the first in the class with a grandchild. Some of you may have noticed my daughter-in-law at graduation. Mason was born two days later! All are fine. It's great being a grandparent — you get to play with him and send him home! Work wise I've been functioning as the interim chair of Family Medicine for Northwestern and ENH while maintaining my practice. (All the homework time I've been using for department business.)" Congratulations Grandpa Ed — enjoy the little guy!

Announcements

We announce that our dear classmate, Aki Yasunaga, has moved back to Japan. We wish him well in his new life! We will miss him dearly. We understand that he purchased some property near his family complex there and is back in the family business. Our own group had a little farewell dinner for Aki at Osteria della Stato in July.
