2002

Hello everyone! Yet another season of fun activity from our classmates! A lot of you wrote in with your news, but we also threw in some of the news that we knew of as well:

Andy McDill and Jennifer Pack '01 were married on May 21, in Marina del Rey, Calif. Please see the Class of 2001 notes for more details and Kellogg attendees.

Yonca Ulusoy was married on May 28, in Adana, Turkey to Tahir Zaimoglu. It was an amazing wedding weekend filled with many local Turkish customs and traditions. Natalie (Guenther) Schaefer, Matt Schaefer, Melissa (Gellert) Cooper, Beata (Drizin) Kirr, Erich Kirr '01, Claire Lundin, Michael Kenney, Alyssa Bagchi and Alvaro Camara made the overseas trip to Turkey to celebrate with Yonca. The ladies joined Yonca on Friday afternoon before the wedding for a bridal hamam (a Turkish bath). Here the ladies were treated to a steam bath and a belly dancing show! That evening all of the guests were invited to the rehearsal dinner, which was a delicious traditional meal of Turkish kebab. The ladies then joined Yonca for a traditional henna night. The men spent that evening with the groom. The wedding was attending by more than 500 people and was at a beautiful venue on the water. The after-party continued until the wee hours of the morning when a DJ came to spin tunes after the band had retired. The bride, Alyssa, Claire and Michael all ended up taking unsolicited "dips" into the pool that evening. Very entertaining to say the least!

Dan Bird, Samantha Barnes '03, Andy Henkel, Natalie (Guenther) Schaefer, Matt Schaefer, Jared Simon, Laura Smith, Kevin Stineman and Margie (Block) Stineman '03 joined together for the West Coast party that took place in Mill Valley, Calif., on July 9.

A fine time was had by all. And after a long search for the right tour company to put the honeymoon together, Jim and Carly finally settled on Jim's company, Vaya Adventures. They traveled to Mexico, Guatemala and Belize, and it was a spectacular trip. As Jim says, "If I can't put together a decent honeymoon, what good am I?" Jim is also happy to report that Vaya Adventures is having a great second year in business, with a lot of travelers heading down to Peru and the Galapagos Islands, among other destinations.

Carly has also had a big year beyond getting hitched she was recently promoted to product manager at Pfizer, Inc., where she has been working in the consumer health division for the past three years, most recently on Sudafed.

Nick Slater and Erin Williams were married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony on Lake Michigan in Door County, Wis. on July 31. Andy McDill, Jen Pack '01, Natalie (Guenther) Schaefer and Matt Schaefer joined them for the festivities in northern Wisconsin. The party went on until the wee hours of the morning, with even a little bit of karaoke to finish the night off. Nick and Erin spent a little over a week in Costa Rica for their honeymoon.

Nadine and Marjan Oman are happy to announce the birth of their son, Pavel. He was born in Chicago on March 5, weighing 6 pounds 14 ounces. They continue to live in the Edison Park neighborhood of Chicago. Pavel is a very curious 6-month-old, who likes to give his mommy and ata (Slovenian for daddy) big smiles.

Jed Wallace, wife Amy, and 2-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Tess Darling, welcomed their newest family member, Quentin Robert Wallace, on May 17.

Daniella and Ori Balaban are proud to announce the birth of their second boy and brother to Gal — Amit Balaban. Amit was born in Redwood City, Calif. on May 21, weighing 7 pounds 1 ounce.

Ryan Osterholm and wife Courtney welcomed their first baby, William Ryan, to New York City on July 4. (Yesall those fireworks were for him!) Will weighed 6 pounds 12 ounces and measured 21 inches long. He has unfortunately expressed a distinct displeasure with taxi rides thus far but has taken to city life extremely well otherwise.

Katherine Anne Marine (Kate) was born on Aug. 22, to the proud parents, Megan (Ainsworth) and Jay Marine. Kate was 7 pounds 9 ounces and 21 inches long at birth and is a very mellow baby so mom and dad are not "sleepless in Seattle." Jay is still at Amazon and Megan is enjoying time off with the baby before going back to Starbucks in January.

Erica (Post) Rabb writes: "The female class contingent in SF is still going strong. Lisa Jackson competed in her first triathlon in August in Livermore and the Kellogg crew got together for a celebratory BBQ in my backyard later that night. Yes, it's August and we are in wool sweaters, but looking forward to the start of our Indian summer this month."

Wayne Borduin '02, his wife Stacie, and their three children; Matt Young '02, his wife, Carol, and their two children; and Travis Bourne '02, his wife, Amy, and their four kids get together in Texas.

This same crew is headed to the Tomato Fest in Carmel this month and a Napa spa weekend in October. Heidi Eggert (who was out of town for our BBQ) and Ashley Martorana were part of a group of section mates who met at a dude ranch over Labor Day.

On another note, my section mates of 66 along with our adopted member Liz (Zilist) Pfau met up for a girls' weekend in early August in Vail. It's a shame it took a trip away from the Bay area for Teresa Chan Moye, Laura Lewis and me to finally get together. Allison Small (mom to both Will and Holly) left the kids at home in Phoenix. Jill Carter who recently moved from Chicago to D.C. joined us and Liz (Zilist) Pfau — who recently bought a condo in Chicago — made the trip as well.

Three 2002 alums who all live in Texas and work in the energy industry recently got together with their families. Matt Young and his family live in Beaumont, where Matt works for ExxonMobil. Travis Bourne, also working at ExxonMobil, and his family joined them from Houston. Wayne Bourdin and his family also joined the reunion from Houston where Wayne works for Chevron. As you can see from the picture, there must have been lots of kid energy at this gathering.

Ed Stubbins passed the Level 3 of the CFA exam and is now at Chartered Financial Analyst. He and wife Ashley Stubbins recently traveled to Croatia, Bosnia and Montenegro on vacation. Ed writes that he gets together with Eric Autio and Efrain Rosario for frequent eating excursions in Atlanta. He recently visited Geoffrey Lasry, Benjamin Gutkin and Subir Basak on a recent trip to L.A. Ashley Stubbins continues to work for Coca-Cola, now managing the Fresca brand, which is re-launching this fall. Ashley and Amanda Hansen recently visited Linsey Simpson in the Bay Area. They received quite an education on wine from Linsey, who has been working for Gallo since graduation in 2002. Ed and Ashley get together with other alums in Atlanta, including Mary Anne McConnel, Brian Ericson '04, Pablo Altman and his wife, Patricia.

Arnaud and Vicki Vasseur, Andy and Liz (Zilist) Pfau), Ryan '01 and Stephanie (Levine) Fong, Amar and Chat (Rivera) Shah met up in Paris in September to share great wine, fabulous food, and the Parisian atmosphere.

Eddie Wu and Joyce Wang were recently married in Chicago on May 7. Joining the festivities — at the top of the Sears Tower — were Karthik and Maya Vasudevan, Stuart Brown and Andy Thung. Eddie is diving into the world of medical informatics at NYU School of Medicine and Joyce continues to enjoy her time at JP Morgan Chase. They recently moved to their Manhattan home next to Central Park, which they can be found enjoying almost every weekend. Eddie just finished his residency in internal medicine and can finally catch up on sleep (outside the hospital!)

Thanks for the updates — keep them coming!
