The following notes were intended for the summer edition of Kellogg World.

Summer 2005 Notes

Can anyone believe it's been four years since graduation? You can tell because we have as many new job announcements in this edition as we do new baby announcements! Yes, we have begun our mass exodus from big consulting and Fortune 500 companies and have sought out bigger responsibilities, more time with the family, or just a change of pace (see Dan the video game teacher below). With our five-year reunion just around the corner, you still have time to create lots of news before we head back to E-town to share all of our stories in person! Here's to making it the best year yet!

Newest Additions:

Yoav and Yael Lev-Avidor would like to update that they welcomed their daughter, Maya Avidor, to the world. "She is a smiley, gorgeous baby and Gal, her brother, loves her. In addition to the new family member, we wish to let our classmates know that we are moving back to Israel after spending six years in the U.S. Since graduating from Kellogg in 2001, both of us worked for J&J in Cincinnati. If you are ever in the neighborhood, please come and visit! Our house is open for guests."

Brian and Gretchen (Eschbacher) Koch welcomed Melanie Frances Koch on March 1. Arriving three weeks early, she not only arrived in a big hurry but she came so early, Gretchen didn't make it for her last day in the office! Gretchen writes, "She has been full of wonderful surprises ever since. Melanie weighed 5 pounds 12.5 ounces at birth. She has already been visited by fellow Kellogg alums Rob McIntosh and Debbie Rebell and will meet a few more when we travel back east to Boston in June. I will be returning to my marketing position at Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream in July. I'm working in brand management on Starbucks Ice Cream and loving it! YUM!"

Susanne van Laarhoven and Loray Greiner would like to inform everybody of the birth of their son, Nicolas Alexander, who was born in Bangkok on June 30, 2004. The family is still living in Bangkok and is looking forward to celebrating Nicolas' first birthday!

John Lee-Tin and his wife, Jane, are happy to announce the birth of Jemma, born in April. John, Jane (who was pregnant at the time), and big sis Jasmine moved from New York City to London last fall. He writes, "Not sure which is more of a challenge, having two children or driving on the 'wrong' side of the road. I'm still a banker (seems a dwindling breed these days) at JP Morgan. When not working, I'm in the park, zoo or science museum, quite a different life!"

Robyn and Brad Paris are excited to announce the birth of their son, Jack Ewing Paris, who was born Feb. 7. Jack weighed in at 7 pounds 9 ounces and measured 20 inches long. Brad writes, "He's great and we're enjoying being parents. Other than that, not much is new with us. We're still in LA, I'm still doing consulting at Roll International, and Robyn is still writing and acting. We love to have visitors, so tell everyone to look us up if they are out west."

Robb Hoenick completed his quest to finish a marathon on each of the seven continents: Rotterdam, Netherlands, April 2002; NYC, U.S., Nov. 2002; Antarctica, March 2003; Sao Paolo, Brazil, May 2003; Sydney, Australia, Sept. 2003; China Coast, Hong Kong, January; Two Oceans, South Africa, March. Robb writes, "The Two Oceans marathon course starts along the Indian Ocean coast and finishes along the Atlantic Ocean coast. It is known as the most scenic marathon course in the world. I chose Two Oceans for my finale because of its beauty and because, at 36 miles in length (versus 26.2 for a regular marathon), I'm ending this endurance goal on a special note. Plans for the future not much marathon racing, maybe triathlons now "

Teaque Lenahan ran his first marathon this past October in Chicago, cheered on by Monisha (Kaplan) and Chris Lozier, Chris Freeburg, Kari and Ben Straley and Al Liu. With a race shirt that read "Smoon," Teaque ran in memory of his great friend, Stephen Moon, who he felt was running with him. The beautiful fall day contributed to a respectable time (3:41) and Teaque was thrilled to have Kellogg cheers along the way. Teaque is still at Prophet in Chicago, doing brand strategy consulting for a variety of B2B and B2C clients.

Teaque is also excited to report that the Stephen J. Moon Foundation raised over $80,000 last year and that the first award was made at a service in December commemorating Stephen's passing. He'd like to recognize the terrific efforts of fellow foundation members Jason Moss, Chris Millner and Mandy Levenberg, and to thank all of the KSM donors. A special recognition goes to Mike Brodnik and the rugby team, who have raised an incredible $16,000 of the total funds raised.

It's Time to Change Jobs

Howard Green has left Guidant Corporation to join Conceptis Technologies, an international medical media and education company as the vice president of broadcast media. Conceptis, publishers of theheart.org and various other medical Web channels, is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec. Howard, Annie, Teagan, Brooke, Tatum and Nellie will remain in Minnesota.

Paul Leamon, Cheryl, Nick and Alex have recently moved back to the Midwest and are currently living in Indianapolis, Ind. Paul has left investment banking for the entrepreneurial life, starting a senior living business. His first senior community should be under construction by early 2006. Cheryl is an account director at the local PR firm, Borshoff Johnson Matthews.

Pierre LeComte officially left the ever-shrinking club of Kelloggians who are still working at their first job post b-school. After four years at Bain, time spent on both sides of the Pacific Ocean in San Francisco and Sydney, and countless projects in industries as diverse (and wacky) as kitchen appliances, canned fruit, and semiconductors (don't you see the "clear pattern" here?), Pierre joined a private equity firm called The Shansby Group. He will be a vice president at SF-based Shansby, which specializes in later-stage investments in high-growth consumer products companies. Pierre will be working on an operational basis with the executive management teams of its existing portfolio investments, as well as sourcing new deals in the consumer goods space.

Pierre writes, "I start in early June, having just left Bain and completed a trip last week to Portugal (and Paris) for Sherry Lin's '00 wedding. While in Paris, I caught up with fellow '01 grads Pierre DeLavallaz and Deb Fang, who are both doing well and enjoying springtime in that lovely city. Now back in the States, I spent the month of May working on that darn golf handicap of mine That's all for now — need to get back to watching mid-afternoon soaps on my break between jobs here! There's a whole new world of options when you're not working nine to five."

Scott Leonard left McKinsey to join TXU Corp., the largest deregulated electric provider in the U.S., as their vice president, planning. Scott and his wife, Lisa, will continue to live in Dallas with their two daughters.

Dan Matkowsky writes, "After two and a half long years on the DL, including a colossally unsuccessful back surgery, I'm finally healthy, which is convenient, because I owe my kids about 700 piggyback rides. In March, I was hired as an adjunct professor of wait for it video games! I knew all those hours spent in poorly lit arcades in the early '80s would pay off! I'm teaching two courses in Westwood College's Game Software Development Program. In addition, I'm a featured columnist for GameDAILY.com, and I write a blog on family gaming (GameFam). In August, Andi and I celebrated our 10th anniversary."

Justin and Stephanie (Ritchie) Kennedy had a baby girl, Brooke Elizabeth Kennedy, on July 2, and are thrilled, proud new parents! She was 9 pounds and 20 inches at birth, and everyone is doing great. Mom and dad are hoping she will start sleeping through the night (or at least longer than two hours at a time) soon!

It was a busy summer for Ellery '02 and Andrew Malkin. They bought a new home in June and welcomed their new daughter, Channing, who was born on Aug. 13. Andrew writes, "Hopefully, we will stay settled for some time now. We can be found at 214 Jackson Blvd., Nashville, TN 37205."

Miscellaneous News:

Rob Day left Bain & Co. last year and is now a principal with Expansion Capital Partners, a "clean technology" venture capital firm. He is still living in San Francisco, now a homeowner; his wife, Kim, their dog and several fleece jackets (mandatory SF "summer" uniform) are all doing fine. He plans to return to Kellogg in early October for the 2nd Annual Steve Moon Memorial Alumni Rugby Game. Rob's new email is rob@expansioncapital.com.

Franck LeDeu transferred within McKinsey from the New Jersey office to the Shanghai office in China, where he will contribute to the healthcare practice. He looks forward to meeting fellow Kellogg alumni in Shanghai.

Mandy Levenberg writes, "The Straleys (Ben and Kari) just moved to town and now we've got a lovely Kellogg contingent. Bishops (Molly, Rob, Adam and Lucy), Straleys (Ben, Kari and Maggie) and McDaniel/Levenbergs (Clay, Mandy, Zoe)."

Gregory Touret has just founded a niche investment firm based in Ho Chi Minh City, Paris and Singapore that takes up him most of his time. And of course he's waiting to show you around when you come visit in the region.

Amanda and Brad Turner moved to Boston in September. Brad took a job with a private equity fund called Berkshire Partners, which manages around $1.7 billion in its latest fund. He joined Berkshire's new operations support group, which is focused on working with portfolio companies to improve performance. They are living in the south end of Boston, getting to know the city and enjoying the summer. Amanda continues to work on her baby clothing business, Isabubu, while working part time for Baxter Healthcare as a contractor.
