In 2010, the Kellogg Alumni Club of Chicago began a new tradition, The Purple Tie Affair. In October, Dean Sally Blount inspired Chicago alumni with her vision for Kellogg at the Chicago Lyric Opera House, ending her talk with a call-to-action to "paint the sky purple." Her words inspired the KACC to initiate an annual social event that would bring special meaning to Chicago alumni. Thus, the first annual Purple Tie Affair was born. On Jan. 22, more than 150 Chicago alumni joined together to celebrate and mingle with fellow Kellogg alums at Mastro's in downtown Chicago. Men were encouraged to don a purple tie and women were asked to wear a purple accessory for this creative Purple Tie event. Assistant Dean for Alumni Relations Janet Sanders with fellow staffers Gail O'Hara and Gina Razum, as well as Kellogg professors, joined KACC co-presidents Mary Paskell '92 and Patrick Thompson '06 with social committee head Tim Pomaville '05 in commemorating the beginning of an annual tradition to nurture the special ties of Chicago-area alums. The next Purple Tie Affair is scheduled for January 2012, so watch for your invitation.
