Boston
Submitted by Carol Dolinko Lidington '85: Kellogg alumni are using their business skills to benefit nonprofits in Boston. Members of the Kellogg Alumni Club of Boston are volunteering with Community Consulting Teams (CCT), an organization that places alumni from leading business schools (Wharton, Tuck, Sloan, Stanford and several others) on consulting teams that complete pro-bono projects for local nonprofit institutions.
As a CCT board member and chair of the Volunteer Development committee, I reached out to the Kellogg Alumni Club of Boston to recruit volunteers last year. The response was overwhelming. Seventeen Boston-area Kellogg alumni came forward to join CCT, more than enough to staff an all-Kellogg consulting team for the first time, with the additional Kellogg volunteers serving on mixed-school teams.
The Kellogg team's client is a nonprofit organization called Rediscovery, which assists "unaccompanied" (a legal description meaning "without family") homeless teenagers in finding housing, completing high school and learning life skills. We are assisting the organization's management in positioning and packaging its wide-ranging services in a clear and compelling way in order to attract funding from potential donors and government agencies. The team began its work in January and will finish the project by June.
These committed, enthusiastic volunteers are experiencing a number of benefits from working with CCT: the satisfaction of knowing that they're addressing community needs by assisting worthy nonprofits; gaining deeper knowledge of and insight into the world of nonprofits; networking with fellow Kellogg alums; and further developing their business skills.
Members of the Kellogg team are: Jeff Barker EMP-40 (co-project manager), Winston Chen '04, Dustin Clinard '05, Alison French EMP-72, David Greenberg '81, Andrea Jackson '06 (co-project manager), Carol Dolinko Lidington '85 (project sponsor), Roy Katz '05 and Warren Zhu '06.
We hope that more Kellogg alumni will join us at CCT to build a better Boston!
