Johanna Abbinante is excited to report that she has rejoined the brand marketing team at E. & J. Gallo Winery in their Napa Valley office. She claims her morning drive from S.F. across the Golden Gate to Napa is "the most beautiful commute" in North America. In addition to leading a new brand development project, she's thrilled to be managing their portfolio of Spanish wine brands, which not only lend their own unique marketing challenges, but also allow her to practice her Spanish and travel to the vineyards of Spain in early March (olé!). Look out for pictures from her trip in the next issue, and in the meantime, she encourages you to enjoy a glass of refreshing albariño — if you like pinot grigio, you'll love it!
I received a quick note from Beth Stevens. She'd like to let folks know that she has moved and changed jobs. Beth writes: "As of Jan. 1, I relocated from D.C. to join the Class of 2007 mass migration to San Francisco. After passing the California Bar Exam, I will be a managing associate at the law firm, Orrick, in San Francisco."
Erik Wist left his original post-Kellogg job at McKinsey and accepted a position at Georgia Pacific. Erik and Alisha still live in Atlanta and root for the Clemson Tigers.
"I decided to leave Bridgespan after two-and-a-half years to join the Skoll Foundation as a program officer, where I work on sourcing, selection, and portfolio management initiatives," writes Kelly Greenwood. "Since my entire career has been in some form of consulting, I'm excited for this new adventure. Skoll's mission is to 'drive large-scale change by investing in, connecting, and celebrating social entrepreneurs and other innovators dedicated to solving the world's most pressing problems.' In personal news, Jules and I bought a place in San Francisco last spring, so we're definitely here to stay!"
Andy Copilivitz has had a few life changes recently. He and Laura welcomed their second child, Benjamin (Ben) in September. That same month, Andy left Bain & Company's Chicago office, where he had worked since Kellogg. Now he is an executive search consultant in the technology practice at Russell Reynolds Associates. He writes, "It's quite a different career for me, but I'm using a lot of the same skills I learned at Bain."
Megha Vora married Vishal Verma on Aug. 21 in Carlsbad, Calif. A number of Kellogg alumni were able to celebrate in the festivities, including Jennifer Dai Chen, Yvonne Chao, Lars Peters, Vidya Peters, Diana Lee, Roger Tsai, Janhavi Sapra and Ian Bednowitz. Megha and Vishal live in Jersey City, N.J. and Megha works in New York City.
Sept. 18 was a busy day for the Class of 2007. On that day, three of our classmates wed in separate ceremonies all over the world.
Jay Riley married Kristen Forgea on Sept. 18 at the Sagamore Resort on Lake George in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. Jay writes, "Kristin also happens to be a Northwestern grad, but we met in Minneapolis in a way not connected to the university." Kristin is from the Albany area, hence the upstate New York wedding. Brian O'Malley and Xavier Sanchez de Carmona were in attendance. The Rileys enjoyed a honeymoon Europe, stopping in beautiful Hvar, Croatia, during their trip.
Bethany (Pinnick) Gardner was married on Sept. 18, to Cliff Gardner, in Mitchellville, M.D. Kailei Richardson and Danielle Robinson were in the wedding party and Fernando Harris and Akosua Asamoah attended the festivities. Bethany and Cliff live in Fairfax, Va., just outside of Washington. Beth works in the McLean, Va., office of Booz Allen Hamilton.
Katrin and Michael Jaun-Frutiger also celebrated their wedding on Sept. 18. They spent a wonderful weekend with their guests in Scuol-Tarasp, Switzerland. Michael wrote that the ceremony was held in the Castle Tarasp overlooking the Swiss Alps.
Dustin Finkel married Christina Zwicky on Aug. 21. Classmates Brian Lilhanand and Joe Merrill were among the groomsmen at the Arrowhead, Colo., wedding. The Finkels live in Denver, where Dustin is brand manager of Horizon Organic (the country's largest organic company). For the uneducated, Horizon is a brand at WhiteWave, a company that also owns Silk (the soymilk) and International Delights.
Jessica (Moshner) Baron writes: "Kevin and I are thrilled to announce the birth of our son Henry William on Aug. 27 (7 pounds, 11 ounces and 21 inches). I have loved every minute of motherhood and introducing Henry to his extended Kellogg family. After a five month leave, I returned to work at Deloitte, where I have taken an internal role (no more travel for this momma!) as the lead for National MBA Recruiting. Kevin and I still enjoy living in Chicago … but can't wait to get Henry back outside once all this snow melts!"
Maria Dominguez Crivelli would like to share the news that her second child was born on Nov. 9. Her name is Candelaria and Maria writes that big brother Facu is thrilled to welcome her to their family. Maria lives in Buenos Aires with her husband Facundo Azurmendi and their two children and works in her family business.
Isil Akdemir Evlioglu and her husband Ozgur are happy to announce the birth of their baby girl, Dora, born on Nov. 11.
Bobby Smith and Maggie (Hulce) Smith would like to introduce Keira Grace McGrath Smith. She was born at 3:12 p.m. on Nov. 25, weighing in at 7 pounds, 3 ounces (10 days early!). The Smiths also noted that they relocated to Norwalk, Conn.
Karen and Liam Krehbiel are thrilled to introduce the class to Morgan Rose Krehbiel! Morgan was born at 12:10 p.m. on Dec. 7. Liam reports that he, Karen, and big brother Jack are excited to have another addition to the family. The Krehbiels live in Chicago.
Geoff Paine and Beth Kessler welcomed Charlotte Anne Paine on Dec. 29. In early February, Beth wrote that Charlotte was darling and that they were enjoying parenthood and learning to cope with much less sleep. Beth and Geoff are still in Minneapolis where Beth works at McKinsey.
Leila Genevieve Mudd and Henry Sidney Mudd were born Jan. 7 at 7:38 and 7:40. Graham Mudd writes: "Lisa was heroic! She and the babies are healthy and happy. Leila weighed in at 6 pounds, 2 ounces and is 18 inches long. Henry is 5 pounds, 8 ounces and 19 inches long. They're about as perfect as could be and we're a very happy family!" The Mudds live in San Francisco where Graham is a vice president at comScore and Lisa is a teacher in Mill Valley.
Stevie Leigh Vovsi entered the world on Jan. 26, on her Mom Gaby's birthday! Mark Vovsi writes, "She's the most adorable little peanut. Everyone's doing great." The Vovsi family lives in San Francisco where Mark works at Diamond Management Consultants (recently acquired by PwC), as he has since graduation.
Krista (Plaisted) Campbell and Bryan Campbell welcomed Olivia Pearl. Bryan writes, "She arrived at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 15 (8 pounds, 3 ounces and 21 inches) and has captured our hearts. Both Olivia and Krista are doing great and we couldn't be happier to have her." The Campbells live in San Francisco, not far away from the Mudds and their newborn twins, who they see often.
I also have a little news from my corner of the world. My husband Jeff accepted a strategy job in the golf industry in Northbrook, Ill., (just outside Chicago) last July. After commuting back-and-forth between apartments in San Francisco and the Windy City for six months, we relocated to Bucktown in December. I am still with Genentech and am doing a combination of working remotely and flying back to San Francisco every couple of weeks. The travel is pretty nuts, but we are both too stubborn to give up jobs that we love! If anyone gets snowed-in at ORD, you are welcome to crash with us. If there's one thing we have more of in Chicago, it's bedrooms.
