John and Robyn Runyan Glushik with new baby Elin and her big brother Evan (2)

1996

John and Robyn Runyan Glushik welcomed daughter Elin last March. Robyn writes: "Big brother Evan (2) adores his little sister except when she is making a play for his toys. 'Mine' has become a common refrain around the house!"

Jessica Kam has an update on her (glamorous!) work as a film mogul: "I have been in Beijing for two and a half years, making movies all along. I just finished producing a Chinese feature film called The Piano in a Factory. It had the privilege to be selected by various film festivals including Toronto, Tokyo, Dubai, Hong Kong, Rotterdam and Miami, which brought me a lot of travelling opportunities this year. Outside of the Chinese speaking countries, it should have a limited release in the U.S. and Europe this summer. Watch for it!

"It was nice to be able to catch up with Hermann Mazard when he visited Beijing as a professor, and with Meiko Towada in Tokyo. Please feel free to contact me if you're ever in Beijing. Look forward to catching up with you all during the reunion."

Karena Strella writes: "The New Year brought a promotion to co-managing partner at Egon Zehnder USA. This is the largest region for our firm and one with significant opportunity. Having worked at EZ International for nearly 10 years, the culture is reminiscent of Kellogg's collaborative ways. Kellogg grads outnumbered all others within our firm until very recently. In addition to client work, a colleague and I have researched and created a new model of CEO potential that we are now rolling out with our clients."

Randy Grigg launched a boutique investment bank in October. Ridgecrest Advisors is focused on maximizing enterprise value for technology consulting firms. Randy comments, "Things are going great — ton of work, ton of fun."

Oksana Strashna and husband Curtis Bjelajac are happy to announce the birth of their son, Seamus George Bjelajac. Seamus was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, on Dec. 10. Oksana adds, "Older sister Vladislava (3) is delighted to finally get her very own baby brother to play with."

Rachel (Bass) Hyman and Jeff Hyman '95 not only went to the Super Bowl in Dallas, but also managed to bring three generations of their family on the trip. Rachel, Jeff, Max (6) and Rachel's father and his wife rooted the Packers on to victory. This is the third Packer Super Bowl for Rachel and her dad.

Andre Walker and Aixa Alfonso were married in an ocean-side ceremony surrounded by family and friends in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. They were later joined by Benjamin Hill and his family at a picnic reception back in Chicago. The couple honeymooned in Spain and Portugal this spring.

Chris Quan (gotta love writing about myself in the third person) visited Boston last fall. He adds: "In addition to hanging out with Rob DeVirgilio, I decided to test a variation of the advice found on restaurant take-out containers all across the United States: 'You've had the rest, now try the best.' Yes, that means that since I have an MBA from the best b-school in the world, I went to sit in on a class at one of the rest: Harvard Business School.

"HBS Admissions assigned me a first year student to shadow. We went to a swanky, totally teched-up classroom where her section was discussing an introductory operations case. Many of us will remember the case from long ago: the Toyota Production System. I had to make a serious effort to restrain myself from shouting, 'It's all about cycle time! It's all about cycle time!' over and over. The good news is that what we did at Kellogg is pretty much the same as what goes on at HBS. The bad news is that being around a bunch of budding MBAs made me feel incredibly O-L-D."
