Jeff Turi writes: "Last fall I returned to Kellogg to attend an Executive Education program, Creating and Leading a Culture of Innovation. It was great to back on campus and be surrounded by terrific Kellogg alums from around the world. It reminded me what a special place the school is. Also in attendance from our class were Gary Ger and Bill Krueger."

Matt Allgood said that he he survived his first month (without an incident) as a driving instructor to his daughter (15) who just got her learner's permit. No word if he survived the second month. Matt adds: "Professionally, 2010 was my best year and I'm optimistic about 2011 as the recovery continues. I'm able to do web-based meetings now and still be in compliance, and would be open to talking with people outside Chicagoland in a way that I couldn't before. People can reach out to me either via e-mail or LinkedIn."

Back from Mount Everest, Paul Mistor said he ran into Lee French at a local Winston Salem community meeting for the Creative Coalition Corridors on redesigning local highway bridges. Lee is still president of Old Salem Museum and Garden (oldsalem.org). Paul also mentioned that Elaine Leung moved back to L.A. in January, although she still does some work in Chicago. Mark Coleman is promoting his company Probar at the Banff International Film Festival World Tour.

I had to squeeze it out of him, but media-shy Matt Ginsburg finally divulged that in late 2009 he left Morgan Stanley Hong Kong to build and run Barclays' Asian investment banking business (also located in Hong Kong).

Luis Garreaud writes: "I met Dean Blount at the March meeting of the Latin American Kellogg Advisory Council in Mexico. Life in Santiago is fine (I recently took a biking trip with my family on Easter Island). Chile is doing great after an eventful 2010, with earthquake and miners included. I´m still the managing partner at Egon Zehnder office here."

Fred Christensen updates: "It's a challenge switching from life in small town Oregon to working for IBM on IP deals in Terra Incognita, but I try to adhere to the principles in 'Younger Next Year.' From a workout standpoint, all the triathlons became more of an obligation than fun, so this year will be less structured and more spontaneous. A friend recently advised me not to forget that, as Wordsworth said, 'the child is the father of the man.'"

Joe Husman said that he and Lana Etherington Slavitt had breakfast near his West Hollywood home. Joe is in corporate social responsibility for Toyota and Lana was vacationing from her part-time job as Minnesota's political kingmaker...and her full-time job as CEO of two beautiful boys Caleb (12) and Zachary (9) and husband Andy. Lana and her men live in Edina, Minn.

The kind of news we don't get often: Wendy Church announced, "I'm going to Burning Man this year and would love to see anyone from the class there." (even D.S. majors?)

Vinod Desari brings good news: "In January, the board of directors of Ashok Leyland appointed me as the company's managing director, effective April 1. AL is the second largest commercial vehicle company in India with expected sales for the fiscal year to be more than $2 billion." Vinod joined AL in 2005 and was formerly the joint managing director of Cummins India.

Jen Haldeman just rubs it in for us snowbound northerners: "I'm just livin' the dream here in beautiful San Diego. My start-up specialty pharma company, Zogenix (ZGNX), went public in November. I'm venturing into the healthcare consulting world with my new firm, JDH & Associates. Visit me on LinkedIn."

Greg Santoro reports that he and Sean Conlin hosted the 13th annual Kellogg Golf Trip last summer in Northern Virginia, which was attended by Al Weggeman, Charles Meyers, Barry Fougere and Kevin Lee. Missing in 2010, but who will rejoin the group in 2011 at Torrey Pines, will be Scott Alan and James Crouthamel.

Rick Erwin writes: "I've been back in Chicago now for a little over a decade where I'm the president of the data and analytics businesses at Experian marketing services. Business has been great despite the rough economy over the last few years. It's fun to be at the center of the emerging world of using consumer data and predictive analytics to drive advertising effectiveness across the web and traditional media. On the personal front, I married Dixie Adams '96 in February! We live in suburban Hinsdale with our four kids."

In January, Eric Degenfelder was promoted to lead DuPont's paint and coatings business for Asia Pacific. He reports: "We continue to enjoy living in Shanghai and travelling across the region. I was in Cambodia and Vietnam and completed a three-day ultra-marathon adventure race through a very remote part of northern Laos." To read a full report of the Eric's journey, visit Kellogg World Class Notes online.

Jim Rossman was appointed to the board of directors of Tremor Media. He is the president and COO of AKQA Inc.

Four-Quarter Reporter: Donna Potter Kelleher flew the plane out to Bosque del Apache in New Mexico for a bird watching vacation and then flew back to Dallas to see Northwestern play Texas Tech in the Ticket City Bowl on Jan. 1. She reports: "We enjoyed cheering for the Wildcats, sitting with the Kellogg Alumni Club of Dallas while watching the game. We still live in Granbury, Texas, where Jim is a family physician, Jarmain is busy with basketball and pre-school, and I own a limo service."

Mike and Kristen Simmons hosted the families of Bruce Spear and Jim Winett to watch the Superbowl. Jim reports: "In our three families, we have five little girls under eight and one lucky boy. Mike is vice president of marketing and product development at Directed Electronics (check out the Viper SmartStart iPhone App that Mike invented). Kristen is doing the entrepreneurial thing with her own home security company, Live Smart Security, after having seen the lack of good security systems out there to protect families. Bruce is working with Oliver Wyman consulting, and I'm still running my business consulting firm in L.A."

In other cool news, yours truly, The Riffman, joined PaceControls (pacecontrols.com) as an investor and senior vice president of business development. Since 2005, I have worked with PaceControls' leading-edge energy-efficiency solutions for HVAC and refrigeration with outstanding results. I have spent nearly 25 years in cleantech and done due diligence on scores of companies, and this is "the real deal." In March, the company will move its headquarters to the Department of Energy Clean Energy Innovation Hub in the Philadelphia Navy Yard (a 90-mile, twice a week commute from my new house in Baltimore near I-95 and overlooking Fort McHenry). I am rolling my energy services company, GreenSpark Energy Solutions, into PaceControls and bringing Tom Wieser aboard too. As our Evanston-based vice president and regional sales manager, Tom has been instrumental in helping us land some large-format retail and supermarket customers. To keep the class of 1992 thing going, I am also thrilled to announce that Ellen Grove Purdy has joined the board of directors of PaceControls. Ellen has a superb reputation as a CFO of venture-backed companies and her experience raising capital, managing growth companies, and local Philly network is invaluable. And, yes, I am still a managing director at The Cleantech Group responsible for the Cleantech Index and associated ETFs and other financial products. Finally, while attending February's Kellogg PEVC conference in Chicago, I also ran into Jay Fehnel, who is still at the Tribune and Tony Hoban, who is still at William Blair. Both guys looked great.
