1974
As many of our classmates, I (Jim) too keep busy as a doting husband, father and grandfather (probably in reverse order!). In addition, I also manage to keep the day job at Stifel, Nicolaus & Co. as a vice president of investments since 2004. Prior to that, I was as UBS for 11 years. I sure am glad to elicit a few responses from the Class of 1974. Hopefully we will do even better for the next issue of Kellogg World!
Besides the fun of being a doting grandfather, Dave Gotaas travels the world (often with his wife or adult children) taking on projects. Those include helping to fund a mission hospital in Bangladesh; assisting in the chartering of Rotary clubs in Kosovo; mentoring men living in inner city Chicago or speaking at Russian State University in Moscow on the rights of oppressed minorities. Dave retired in 1995 as a CPA to manage his real estate interests. In 2006, he sold his commercial real estate properties to further pursue his interests as a Christian humanitarian. Much of his time is devoted to being a trustee of American Councils for International Education and chair of the Kosovo American Education Fund, which provides scholarships for master degrees studies in the U.S. In 2009, Phil Hubbard invited Dave to join him on a trip to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) at the invitation of its Ministry of Education.
Gary McWilliams writes that he has been through a couple career changes since Kellogg. He has worked in public accounting and consulting; as an audit director for a large pension fund and as finance and technology director for the Northwestern development office. Seven years ago, Gary's wife Julie convinced him to join her real estate business. Gary and Julie work at the Koenig & Strey Real Living office on Central Street in northwest Evanston. Gary comments, "We are hoping for a market rebound this year."
In other news, Gary reports: "For the past 16 years, Julie and I have vacationed in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, during January. Lucky us, we came home just in time for Chicago's blizzard of 2011!"
Tony DiGirolamo is still the CFO at Sweet Street Desserts Inc., where he has been for the last 14 years. It is the longest time he has had with a company and with a job.
