Kristin Smith traveled to Israel and Jordan for some fun. She particularly enjoyed being inches from the Dead Sea Scrolls in Amman, visiting the Treasury at Petra, the Masada fortress, the ruins of Harrod's palaces, Hezekiah's tunnel underneath Jerusalem, the four-star spa at the Dead Sea and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. In the fall, she also co-chaired a benefit for the Bionic Center at the Rehab Institute of Chicago, where the world's most advanced prosthetic limb is being developed. The proceeds went to the National Healing Military Heroes Fund.

Gene Kropfelder relocated with his family to North Carolina and accepted a new position. What would we have done without you in Analytical Decision Modeling?

James Tantaro joined Cushman & Wakefield as a senior director, where he specializes in complex asset acquisitions, dispositions, tenant restructuring and strategic real estate planning and advisory. He is also in the process of completing his CPA exam and could use an additional Professor Lys class or two!

Congrats to Gil Fonger, who took a new position as a direct result of finishing the MBA. Gil became the senior vice president of operations in August and now oversees all 21 membership centers in the Chicago area. This represents more than 100,000 members, 500,000 total participants and 2,500 employees.

Mark Russell moved the family to Tokyo in September and took a role in the securitization group within fixed income at UBS in the Asia-PAC region. Eric Lim and Steve Plunkett also accepted new positions within GE in the finance organization and subsequently moved their families to Tokyo. Consider this an open invitation for another place to stay if you're traveling through.

EMP-62 has implemented a happy hour series that has gotten off to a fast start. We need a reason to fill up all our free time since graduation, right? Nearly half the class gathered at Jim Tantaro's family restaurant in Chicago in February for a night of pizza, drinks and a live blues band. The next events are already being planned, including a spring and summer first Friday of the month outing and our one-year reunion blow out on June 9, representing 364 days since graduation!
