On
Jan. 7, Ed Ogata married Kathleen Field Orr at a beautiful
service at the Drake Hotel. Ed and Kathy compliment each other
wonderfully, and I'm sure Ed will understand if I say Kathy
was the center of attention — not just because she was
a gorgeous bride, but because she brought her good humor to
their vows. Kathy is an attorney and they will be living in
Chicago.
What
type of business takes one of our EMP-ers to the Sundance
Film Festival? Cindy Vanina put on her marketing hat for JPMorgan Capital Corp.
and headed for Park City to network and find some film tax-credit
business. As part of her responsibilities running the special
investments unit, Cindy negotiates with production studios
to monetize film tax credits the studios earn for filming
movies and TV shows in Illinois and other states where JPMorgan
has a presence.
At
least two of our classmates ran the Chicago Marathon: Tom
Schwingbeck and Kevin Garton. Both Tom and his
wife, Renee, participated, with Tom running and Renee volunteering.
Way to go, Schwing! Kevin apparently ran so fast, we didn't
even know he was in town!
Another
Hurricane Katrina trip took me to Biloxi, Miss., in December.
Most of the time, I worked on a house we affectionately named
the Hazmat House, because very little cleanup had occurred
in it since the hurricane. We had to duct-tape ourselves into
"hazmat" suits and wear respirators. There was mold
and mildew everywhere, and the home's only inhabitants were
more bugs than you can imagine and a very rascally possum.
A little helium and I could have sold advertising space.
