2004
— Full-Time
News
from Japan: our classmates there have been busy. Nori Kubo
writes that with the addition of seven little ones over the
past year, Japan's chapter of Kellogg Kids now numbers 15.
One of the newcomers is Nori's own baby boy, Haru-nori (Haru
means spring — he was born in March 30, 2006).
Juliana
Sztrajtman and Cristina Yoshida are Brazilian bachelorettes
no longer. Both married (but not each other) during the past
year. Juliana works as a brand manager at Johnson & Johnson
in São Paulo, Brazil.
Congrats
to Jon Conta, who writes between diaper changes that
he and wife Allison welcomed their daughter Madeline to the
world on Aug. 7. The 8-pound, 3-ounce bundle of joy arrived
right on schedule and mommy and daughter are doing very well.
Daddy is already trying to figure out how he's going to pay
for the wedding.

Jennifer
Chen has left the sophisticated — though sedate
— hills of Gallo vineyards in Modesto, Calif., to take
on Cuervo at Diageo in New York City. She was last seen hosting
Cuervo extravaganzas with Maxim chicks.
Kara
Palamountain has been spotted in the hallowed halls of
Kellogg, modestly noting that she secured a grant to devise
a means of distributing AIDS vaccines in Africa. Only KP would
be back at the ol' stompin' ground changing the world while
the rest of us were back recruiting unsuspecting first-years
to build a career in marketing credit cards.
Martin
Claure, co-founder
of the ever-expanding Colfax Realty, writes: "Carmen
and I just had twins (Diego and Matias), and we are moving
to Panama, where the sun shines in the winter."
David
Youn writes: "I have one bit of news and one embarrassing
anecdote. News: Kent Nakagawa and his wife, Asaka,
had a little boy late last year. His name is Mizuki."
On to the anecdote: "Last year, we visited Tokyo and
spent a week with Kent and Dai Tsuruki. As part of
our greater Tokyo tour, they took me to a traditional hot
spring where friends bathe — in the nude." David
also sent a picture, which he says "was taken by a random
Japanese guy who was also in the nude in the hot spring with
us," and expressed doubt that it would get past the Kellogg
World editorial team. [Ed. note: It didn't.] He
says he is doing well at P&G in Cincinnati.
Dai
reports that he left BCG in February to work for a Japanese
private equity firm.
Passing
through New York on a consulting gig, Andy Sofield
writes that he's doing well and that "Drew and I are
still living in LA-la-land."
Though
a bit belated, congratulations to Brian Ericson. Brian
and Mary Anne McConnel '02 married in Asheville, N.C. on April
23, 2006. They celebrated getting hitched with an Appalachian
hoedown, complete with cowboy attire, roping lessons and genuine
clog dancers (it's a North Carolina thing) at a working cattle
ranch. Their ceremony took place on the grounds of the Biltmore
Estate (one of the Vanderbilts' humble abodes). Dave Rostan,
Stephanie Chan, Lane Armey, Theo Brito,
Josh Hutto, Kamber '06 and Jon Briones,
Matt Posner, Sarah Butterfass, Christian Weber,
Brian Oxley, Linsey Simpson '02, Eric Autio '02
and Ashley Stubbins '02 all joined in the festivities. Brian
and Mary Anne live in Atlanta, where Brian works at GMAC as
the director of the GM Motor Club.
Charmaine
Hussain writes: "Our son Sameer (5) started kindergarten
and made lots of new friends." Husband Sudhir decided
to take the plunge and start his own company in April. And
Charmaine is still at Clorox, but has moved from the Armor
All to Hidden Valley and Kingsford brands.
Melissa
(Linken) Merchant writes: "Yes, Greg's and
my wedding went off without a hitch and was a lot of fun.
It was in Charlottesville, Va., on Sept. 9! Let's just say
Kellogg represented on the dance floor (there were trust falls).
We had a great group of Kellogg people in attendence: Emily
Sitrin, Kim Folk, Marcy Shugert, Sarah
Butterfass, Kara Palamountain, Caroline Chulick,
Rob Mason, Brady Busch, Chris and McCall
Butler, Matt and Kelly Posner, Kim Milstein
and Mark Buckley, Mac McClelland, Eric
Mason, Sapna Chadha and Chris Winnen."
Tim
and Carin Watson have left New York City to head back
West. Carin writes: "We're living in San Jose and loving
being close to family again (especially the free childcare!).
I'm working at Visa doing B2B marketing and Tim just started
a finance gig at Google (oh yes, he's enjoying the country's
best place to work, especially the free food!). Callie is
8 months old and amazing us daily with her cuteness, curiosity,
mobility (scary) and laid-back disposition (you know she doesn't
get that from her mom!). We're head-over-heels in love."
Fergie
ain't the only one gettin' down in London. Rebecca (Wildman)
Lucia writes that she and husband Ned have moved to London
and are both job hunting there: "We have some great leads,
so hopefully we'll have something lined up fairly soon. We
are loving London. It is a fun city. I am on the Kellogg London
alumni club committee and am meeting lots of great people
through that, and we are also spending a fair amount of time
with Anna (Octaviano) Chua and her husband, which is
nice."

Fashionable
Anna has moved from consulting at BCG to an industry that
husband Paul notes (tongue-in-cheek?) that she's "very
interested" in — luxury fashion. Anna's doing marketing
work for LVMH's Zenith watches in the United Kingdom.
Tapiwa
Mashingaidze married the lovely Makeda Gerressu. Their
multiple marriage ceremonies took place in Ethiopia last fall.
After
each of them served a rotation as both Kellogg JV and Kellogg
student, Kamber '06 and Jon Briones moved back to San
Francisco last summer. Jon started a job with Barclays Global
Investors as part of the corporate strategy team and will
eventually take on an investing, sales or operational role.
Kamber is in marketing at Clorox.
Juan
Pablo Rossi and Maren Lau married on Nov. 17 in
Maui, Maren's island home. The outdoor ceremony had spectacular
weather, and — no surprise — the Kellogg crew
was the life of the party. Stay tuned for wedding ceremony
#2, when the couple goes from island casual to urban chic
in Buenos Aires.
Kyle
and Megan Elfers had their first boy, Remy.
Suzanne
and Dave O'Neill welcomed their second child, Molly.
Josh
and Isabelle Bibbler welcomed their first baby girl
last summer in San Francisco.
Tori
and Andy Grimes have welcomed daughter Tilly down under
in Sydney, Australia.
Mara
and Mike Sheehan welcomed daughter Karoline
on Aug. 23.
Heath
and Peggy Mathias celebrated the birth of son Garrett
on May 30.
Rumor
has it that Vineet Agrawal recently rode to his traditional
Hindu wedding on a white horse. Vineet and Raka were married
in Monterey, Calif., on Nov. 25. Several Kellogg alums from
around the country attended the wedding. Vineet finally moved
from Indianapolis, and the couple now lives in San Jose, Calif.
We're waiting for photographic evidence of the white horse,
Vineet!
Katja
Lindo was recently promoted to vice president of IEG Advisory
Services.
From
the Kellogg World Cup to the real deal: Marcelo Xavier
writes that he, Oliver Bauer and Ivan Bravo
met each other in Munich for the World Cup in June. "This
was a celebration of Brazilian victory against Australia.
Although neither Brazil, Spain nor Germany conquered the world,
it was very nice to drink with the old friends. Time passes,
but we are all the same."
Alison
Curd and Tyson Lowery married on May 20. The wedding was
held in Alison's home town in the Bay Area, with an outdoor
ceremony overlooking the San Francisco Bay. Kellogg graduates
kept the dance floor going all night. Attendees included Jim
Steckart, Carrie Meek, Mara (Holian) Lowry,
Jason Jennings, Rob Mason, Emily Sitrin,
Carole Bruner, Elizabeth Lang, Elizabeth
Laughlin, Eric Laughlin, Ryan Melchior,
Scott Rupp, Amanda Hoche, Geeta Arora,
Karen White, Kristin Mitchell, Kirsten Horby,
Melissa Calderwood, and Whit Lanier. Sue Kamil
and Alex Livingston (both '05) also attended. The couple honeymooned
in the Hawaiian islands for two weeks. |
