Chicago

The Kellogg Alumni Club of Chicago has been quite active over the winter, with many events held for alumni in the Chicago area. This couldn't have been accomplished without such a strong board and group of volunteers. Thank you!

Listed below are some of the highlights of the events we've held over the past couple of months. I also encourage you to visit our Web site, kelloggalumni.northwestern.edu/clubs/kacc, to see what we've been up to, as well as what's planned for the months ahead. I look forward to seeing you at our future events! --- John Tomaszewski, KACC president

KACC entrepreneurship event: "Financing Small Business --- Perspectives from Borrowers and Lenders"

Kellogg alumni learned about small business ownership and debt financing of business activities from the point of view of both borrower and lender during this January presentation. The panel included experts in bank and finance company lending, as well as small business operators who have successfully accessed the borrowing markets. More than 60 alumni took part in an evening of discussion and networking.

TGIF for alumni

The social and interest groups committee of the Kellogg Alumni Club of Chicago held a TGIF for alumni on Jan. 16 at The Tavern Club, giving alumni a chance to raise their glasses and explore the venue, a private club with a great view of the city and a long tradition in Chicago. This was a great opportunity to get to know this private club and mingle with fellow MBAs from Harvard, Stanford, Michigan and a few other top schools!

KACC author series presents Barry Moltz

Alumni flocked to hear Barry Moltz talk about his latest book, You Need to Be a Little Crazy: The Truth About Starting and Growing Your Business. In the book, serial entrepreneur and angel investor Barry Moltz debunks the myths of start-up businesses and confirms what many entrepreneurs already know: passion, courage and a streak of craziness are what enable people to turn their backs on stability to pursue their dreams. Alumni caught a revealing glimpse into the persona of the entrepreneur and the qualities that nourish success.

KACC West --- "Jump Start Your Job Search 2004"

KACC's new west suburban chapter began its professional development series with more than 130 attendees, who had a chance to network and hear panelists discuss the job market for 2004.

KACC West TGIF

The social committee of the Kellogg Alumni Club of the Western Suburbs held a TGIF for alumni Feb. 13 at the Fox and Hound Pub, a quaint English pub located just north of the Fox Valley Mall.

KACC career development series "Staying Up in a Down Market"

Over the past year, KACC has sponsored a career development series, with overwhelmingly positive feedback from alums who are job searching or just reviewing their career plan. Each workshop is a stand-alone module that provides insight into a career plan. "Staying Up in a Down Market" provided a comprehensive, proven career-search process that maximizes results, helping participants to stay on track in this challenging and complex market. Alumni worked on all tactical aspects of their search campaign, including résumé, handbill, cover letters, networking strategies, goal-setting, activities management and results tracking. To learn more about the workshops, please visit the KACC home page.

As the Kellogg Alumni Club of Chicago continues to grow, starting with a new satellite chapter in the western suburbs and with planned chapters in the north and northwest suburbs, we continue to look for strong alumni volunteers that will grow with us. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact me at jtomaszewski1998@kellogg.northwestern.edu.
