EMP-29

Dan Harrington and his family have been in Europe since April 1999. Dan holds the position of vice president of sales and consulting services for Teradata in Europe. Dan, Europe is a pretty big place. Are you in any particular country over there?

Dave Hasson recently resigned from his position as senior vice president of tax for Limited Brands Inc. According to Dave, his plans include “taking a three- to six-month sabbatical in an effort to become a professional artist. My focus will be art that appeals to wine lovers and is mainly intended for wine cellars. My family (Liz, Ian and James) and I are doing great in Columbus, Ohio. Both of my sons are doing well in school and continue to excel in hockey and soccer. I also coach both sports, as I have for the past 10 years, but will retire from that next year when my younger son James reaches high school.” Best of luck to you, Dave!

Pete Pizarro is the chief executive officer of Telefonica USA. Pete heads up Telefonica’s U.S. business units, which include Puerto Rico. Pete is responsible for developing and delivering “the company’s strategy to bring U.S. multinational companies the IT and telecommunication services that enable them to build efficient international voice and data communications networks and to provide them with data center and IT services across all of Latin America and Europe.” Pete was named one of the 100 most powerful people in South Florida in the January issue of South Florida CEO.

Many thanks to Phil Zazove for putting me in contact with Dan, Dave and Pete.

Speaking of Phil, his campaign for the Michigan House of Representatives is going well. Phil said his organization “raised more money than any other candidate (Democrat or Republican) as of the filing Jan. 1. We had over 250 donors of all levels ─ including some EMP-29 alums ─ and currently have over 100 volunteers. We were the only candidate to have a presence at every presidential caucus site in our district in early February, which generated a lot of positive feedback. It’s also been fun, as I’ve met many education, economic, environmental, etc. experts and learned a lot. As I’m sure our classmates know, every issue is more complicated than it seems on the surface.”

The race for the 52nd District of the Michigan State House of Representatives has been reported as one of the most competitive races in the state. If anyone is interested in being informed of the campaign’s progress, you may email Phil at zazoveforhouse@aol.com, or sign up directly at his Web site. Best of luck to you, Phil!
