1998

Many apologies, but I must own up to a HUGE mea culpa. I am usually extremely organized but, alas, I have just bought a new computer (yay!) because Rockstar, my trusty laptop, had an unfortunate accident and lost its “8” key (making sending notes to the Class of ‘98 quite tricky). However, in transferring my files over to its yet unnamed replacement, I have somehow lost track of all the lovely emails that you sent me in late January, as the evil powers at AOL have eaten them. Hence this edition of Class Notes is a bit slim on the news. My sincerest apologies to those who sent me notes that did not get published. It was not personal at all. If you resend them for the next issue, I promise you I will submit them for publication. For general information, there was a lot of good stuff that got lost, so please, please, please do not hold it against me and promise to resend it to me!

Anyway, on to the news that I have salvaged.

Matt Cole writes: “I guess it has been a while since I sent in an update. Lisa, Nathan (5), Annalise (3), and I are still in Nashville, and I am definitely enjoying my job at Hennessy Industries, a division of Danaher. In keeping with MMM tradition, we manufacture really sexy things like tire changers and wheel balancers. When you see the tricked-out ‘Slades with the 28 spinnin’ dubs’ (highly customized Cadillac Escalade with 28-inch wheels and chrome hubcaps that spin), chances are they used our equipment. Cheers to y’all, and we have plenty of room here in Nashville.”

Michael and Kristina (Cho) Frank report that they had their second baby, Charlotte, in Connecticut on Nov. 18.

Ken Kaufman and his wife Lara just had their first child: “Zoe Hannah Kaufmann was born Nov. 4 in Chicago. Zoe and Mom are doing great, while daddy is learning to adjust to the fact that he is no longer the center of attention. Visitors are welcome, especially to conduct 3 a.m. feedings.

Jon and Lisa Haas write: “Just thought I’d give you some news ... not really gossip because Lisa and I are too old and lame to have gossip anymore. Lisa gave birth to our second son, Kyle Dean Haas, on Jan. 19. The little guy weighed in at a svelte 6 pounds, 11 ounces. He and Lisa are both doing fine. His brother Ethan has been distracted by an influx of new toys, but did suggest his new brother sleep in the hamper on his first night home. (He really meant the Moses basket, but it was too funny considering the size of our NYC apartment!)”

Jeff Kinsey and his family had a roller coaster of a year: “In March, I took a job with Mercury Marine, a division of Brunswick Corp., as vice president of strategy and business development. I moved the whole family from Cincinnati to the small town of Fond du Lac, Wis., about an hour north of Milwaukee. Our fourth child, Hope Elizabeth, was born in June. Unfortunately, she was only with us for four and a half months, as she died unexpectedly from SIDs. Heather and I and our other children, Rose, Grace and Colin, were obviously devastated, but are working through the challenges with the help of close friends old and new, each other and our faith.”

Just a quick update from Robert Kennedy. “We moved from Richmond, Va., back to Atlanta in July, and welcomed our third child, Carter Ellis, the day after Christmas. He joins his older brother, Bentley (born while we were at Kellogg), and his older sister, Lacy, 3. I continue to keep in touch with David Contract and Jen Ryan a good bit, and see Chris Lee (and his family) fairly frequently. All my best to our classmates.”

That’s it for this issue. Happy belated Valentine’s Day and happy early springtime. Love to you all! Melanie
