The Rev.
Richard A. Cheu ‘67 completed
the Catholic Church’s deacon formation program in
May and was ordained a deacon by Bishop John Smith of the
Diocese of Trenton, N.J. Rev. Cheu writes: “I am
assigned to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Highlands,
N.J., on the Jersey Shore. My wife and I reside in Fair Haven, a short distance from Highlands. As a deacon my duties include performing baptisms, weddings
and funeral services; assisting at Mass; and preaching
and servicing the needs of parishioners. Prior to becoming
a deacon, I was a ‘wandering minstrel,’ serving
as a cantor at various parishes, including a 10-year stint
at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.”
