Nexent Systems: The Case of the Product Roadmap Blues
Samantha Green, a product manager at Nexent Systems, faced the challenge of thoroughly revising her 2024 product roadmap for Nexent ECM following critical feedback from her boss, Matthew Short. Her initial roadmap was a feature-centric list that, although comprehensive, lacked thematic cohesion and customer-centricity. Short highlighted those flaws, as well as an absence of narrative and clear mapping to the "jobs to be done" (JTBD) by end-users.
Green was tasked with rewriting the product roadmap. She needed to begin by identifying potential users' key pain points, such as managing unstructured content and the need for enhanced collaboration and security. Next, she had to structure the roadmap around core themes such as collaborative content dynamics, intelligent content navigation, and security and compliance assurance. Product features had to be mapped to specific user jobs, ensuring that the roadmap would provide a strategic, user-focused direction for Nexent ECM and that it would align the product's evolution with its users' real-world challenges and needs.
