K. Daron Acemoglu
About the speaker
K. Daron Acemoglu is the Elizabeth and James Killian Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received his B.A. in economics from the University of York in 1989 and a M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in economics from the London School of Economics in 1990 and 1992.
Acemoglu's research covers a wide range of areas within economics, including political economy, economic development and growth, human capital theory, innovation, search theory, network economics and learning. His work has been published in leading scholarly journals, including the American Economic Review, Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal Economics and Review of Economic Studies.
The importance of his contributions is recognized by a large number of honoraria including his election as a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Econometric Society, the European Economic Association, and the Society of Labor Economists; being awarded the Distinguished Science Award from the Turkish Sciences Association in 2006, the John von Neumann Award in 2007, and the John Bates Clark Medal awarded biannually to the best economist under 40 by the American Economic Association in 2005.
Acemoglu is the co-editor of Econometrica and of the National Bureau of Economic Research Macroeconomic Annual.
