Kellogg World Winter 2010
Chris Dykes ’95 and family

1995

Mark Medema married Katie Scott in Vero Beach, Fla., the week before Reunion. In his first compromise, he missed Reunion for his honeymoon in Laos. The wedding was a blast, with the following attendees on the dance floor all night long: Bill Kaufmann ’96, Paul Machle ’94, Cheri DeMong Hubbard, Kerry O’Rourke Bischof, Todd Dorrien, George Bischof ’94, Karen Hohenstein, John Honney, Elizabeth Duff ’96, Rick Bobertz, Philip Yau, Julie Yamato ’96 and Todd Krueger. The couple has moved to Washington D.C., where Mark continues working on education reform through a number of ventures in the U.S. and abroad.

From Beth Houle: “I’ve returned from working in Delhi (with Opportunity’s microfinance partners there). For all my India GIM Trip ’94 travelmates, I can share that Delhi is a city that has developed immensely since we were there 14 years ago. As one example, Delhi just opened up its new, state-of-the-art international airport, an airport so advanced that you might mistake it for Brussels except for the beautiful Indian cultural installations. It was great to be back there.”

Hugues Rivard is a certified financial planner and building his business within independent advisory firm Financial Focus in Livingston, N.J. He writes, “Life is great in the Garden State with wife Nadia, Victoria (7) and Jonathan (3). Youth hockey coaching is now only a year away!”

From Chris Dykes: “The Dykes family is doing great in Indianapolis (home of the 2012 Super Bowl!). I am a managing broker with Carpenter Realtors. Shari is an agent and works when the girls (Lauren, 6 and Lindsey, 4) are in school. Kellogg may have been overkill in preparing for a career in real estate, but the lessons learned are well applied in the competitive environment of an industry that exists in the eye of the economic storm. The best aspect of residential real estate is that it keeps us home. No travel for work. We went on our first journey to Mecca (Disney World) with the girls in October.”

CC Carnes writes: “In addition to my day job at Providence, I co-teach marketing strategy and research at the graduate level. Two of our largest universities, Oregon Health and Sciences University and Portland State University, collaborated on a healthcare MBA program. The cohort is made up predominantly of current healthcare executives and leaders who are pursuing their master’s degrees. I’ll be responsible for providing the ‘real world’ perspective of healthcare marketing.”
From Linda Plate: “My family — Tim, myself and Ginger (5) and Jack (4) — moved to Marblehead, Mass., after eight years in Beacon Hill. If there are any alumni on the North Shore, let me know at Lindaplate@yahoo.com. Also, we want to congratulate Dan Hillenbrand on the birth of his second child. Way to go.”

From Marie-Helen Yalom Ambard: “After a five-year break from corporate America (HP) as a massage therapist, I am now back in business, running an online business called Psychotherapy.net with my husband Victor. We produce and/or distribute professional training DVDs for psychotherapists. Our DVDs are sold all over the world to individual psychotherapists, universities, clinics and institutions. We also produce an online magazine for professional psychotherapists. We launched our new website in September and I am finally not ashamed to send people to it. Go to psychotherapy.net and check out the cartoons my husband draws every month. Last year I co-produced and directed a DVD on trauma resolution in psychotherapy, and am planning to direct more teaching DVDs in the future.”

From Suzy Taherian: “After 14 good years with Chevron, I’m leaving the company to join a small renewable energy company, Amyris. They are ‘applying an industrial synthetic biology platform to provide high-performing alternatives to petroleum-sourced fuels and chemicals.’ It’s a great opportunity to help build a company in a new growth industry. Friends can reach me at my personal e-mail address: suzy.taherian@yahoo.com. A hearty thanks to Kellogg friends who were very helpful and supportive in this search and transition.”

From Per Torgersen: “I wanted to provide an update on a slight career change. After several years with Deloitte doing the Monday to Thursday grind, I have struck out independently with some former colleagues. Our new firm, Better Sales Comp Consultants, focuses on driving growth and profitability through the organization structure, roles, territories, processes and compensation within the sales function. It has been a great year so far. Also, my partner Ted Pfeiffer and I spent a night in Chicago with Beth Houle, her husband David Pope ’94 and our respective children, swimming, playing board games and catching up.”
