Johnny Welsch came down from America’s Dairyland to play some golf with Jamie Crouthamel in Chicago. The boys posed with Lord Stanley’s cup in Chicago, home of the 2010 NHL Champion Chicago Blackhawks, before teeing off. Jamie has three kids, Anthony (11), Nicholas and Jayne (both 8), and lives in Chicago’s west suburbs. He is still at Old Town Capital LLC, an operating investor in early-stage Internet marketing services and technology companies. Jamie says, “Al Warms and I work on a few businesses together at a time. He is currently CEO of appolicious.com (mobile apps company) and I sit on its board.”

Berthold Heinemann, Yuko Sugiyama, Arnold Liao and Hiroko Osaka reunited in Evanston. Berthold, who runs businesses in Vietnam and Hong Kong, came stateside in August, and thanks to him, three other Chicago classmates got a chance to reunite. Yuko, who has spent a few years in China and Japan, is now in Taiwan and Hiroko travels in Asia much of the time. Arnold had a baby son in May and his physician software business is keeping him busy too.

Jim Winnett, Steve “The Bohemian” Rappaport and Riff Coven rendezvoused in Los Angeles on Labor Day. Most impressive was the resemblance of shaven-pate Jim to Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast. Thank goodness, Jim’s not the scary gangster type. Jim reports: “After a few years off from triathlons due to daddy duties, I did race in the Rage Triathlon at Lake Las Vegas with a bunch of consulting clients — a bit slower than the earlier days, but I still finished! My consulting business is going well. I incorporated a new consulting firm, Level 11 LLC, in January to capitalize on medium-sized companies’ need for real strategic growth help. Our oldest daughter Ella (8) was Dorothy in a community theater Wizard of Oz musical in West L.A., and my daughter Sasha (6) was a munchkin. They’re on track for Special K 2029.”

Rick “Oakley Shades” Gallagher moved with his family from Rome to London. He writes: “I have been working for the past eight years for Experian plc, a FTSE 50 company in London. In Rome, I was responsible for our business operations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Russia. In London, I am the chief investment officer. I don’t see too many classmates, so if anyone is in London — I’d be happy to reconnect.” You can contact Rick at: Gallagher_Rick@yahoo.com.

Allyson and Carter Cast are both well and continue to gain more weight as they eat lots of steaks in Omaha. Carter says: “Our son Glen (2) literally flipped an internal switch into the ‘terrible twos’ the day of his birthday. I have been CEO of Hayneedle, the online retailer of home furnishings and lifestyle products, but in October, I switched to the role of company chairman. Allyson just finished her 2-year clerkship for an Omaha Supreme Court judge.”

Eric Degenfelder is off traveling in Laos and we expect some nice photos and news when he returns to China.

In her fourth year at Coke, Liz Davis works in the McDonald’s division as director of global consumer insights. Liz comments: “That means I talk to people about what they drink at McDonald’s, and try to get them to drink more of Coke’s many beverages. The job allows me to drink all the Diet Coke I want, while getting to travel to some great places (London, Paris, Brussels, Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong). I’ve seen Laurie Fuller Bevier, who was in town for business. She’s still with GE (since Kellogg!) and living in Florida with her husband and kids.”

Robin Stroud had a great visit with Jane Mason and family this summer when Jane’s family stayed with them and the families visited Washington D.C. sites. She writes: “My family and I explored national parks during our summer trips to Jackson Hole and West Glacier International Peace Park. We live in northern Virginia and I spend my time working independently providing organizations employee benefits. We enjoy life with our youngest son, now a high school sophomore, and have grandchildren and our older son’s family living nearby.”

Bernie Armstrong reports that he started a new job building a European family office business for Credit Suisse.

Lawrence Bruder returned home to Maryland after years in California. The former president and CEO of Guava Technologies was appointed to the same position at Noxilizer, Inc., a developer of gas sterilization technology for hospitals and life-science companies.

Vince Arnone is excited to rejoin Fuel Tech Inc., an air pollution and energy-efficiency solutions provider based in suburban Chicago. Vince’s new role is EVP of worldwide operations and he reports directly to the CEO. From 1999 to 2008, Vince was Fuel Tech’s treasurer and CFO.

In March, Amber Elenz was elected president of the Austin Council of PTA, a volunteer position that oversees the activities of 120 PTAs in metro-Austin schools. Amber comments: “I assumed the one-year position in July, and haven’t had much chance to breathe since! I work closely with the Texas PTA, the Austin Independent School District, and the board of trustees. We have an incredibly diverse district, which has been both educational and enlightening. While a bit dusty, my Kellogg education is definitely being put to the test.”

Bruce Guthrie joyfully welcomed his second son, Leander Snow Guthrie, in December 2009. He immediately started teaching him speed skating and free-market Austrian economics.

Ellen Grove Purdy was named “CFO of the Year” in the large company category by the Philadelphia Business Journal in July. Ellen is CFO of SDI Health, a pharmaceutical services provider. Since 2007, she has helped SDI grow fourfold and led the acquisition and successful integration of its much larger competitor in 2008. When she’s not mega-achieving at work and serving on numerous nonprofit and association boards, Ellen has been busy attending the Eagles and Phillies games this autumn with her son and husband.

Jeff Gilbert writes: “Finally got something interesting to report. It took nearly forever, but I found the perfect woman and put a ring on her finger. We got married Memorial Day weekend. Jenilyn is her name and she is awesome.”

Juliana Yi Carlucci writes: “Doug and I have settled into our new life in Marin County. We have been trained to compost, buy grass-fed beef and locally grown foods, and to be embarrassed to be driving a gas-guzzling SUV. We are lucky enough to have the wine country in our backyard so Jon Guerster and his wife Kim came from Boston to attend the annual Napa Valley Wine Auction. We all had a blast living as if those Green House parties were just yesterday. I am still at home with our girls, but continue to run the Chinese Language School in Chicago as the executive chairman and I’m starting to work on some business development for Half the Sky in Berkeley.”

Patty and Tim Krein visited Jennifer (Phelps) York and Charlie York at the Yorks’ home in Great Falls, Va. Both families live in the D.C. area. Charlie is at Wells Fargo Private Bank and Jennifer is at home with their two daughters (who keep her very busy!) and started teaching spinning classes part time.

Joe Hussman visited Carmen and Doug Hachenburg in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and all ran in the Banco Popular 5K race.

A year later, Paul Mistor proudly announces the birth of daughter Vivienne (1), who joins brother Luke (2).

Robert Honigberg, chief medical officer of URAC in Washington D.C., accepted an additional role as consulting medical and healthcare strategy director for Quantum Health.
