Kellogg World Winter 2010

Jan-Peter Onstwedder, Gina Villanueva-Weinzierl, Tod Windsor and Carol Hamcke-Onstwedder, all ’85, at Goodwood at the Motor Circuit Revival meeting, to celebrate JP's 50th birthday

1985

Usually the Class Notes memo after the reunion recap from the previous Kellogg World publication is rather sparse.
But, to quote Paul Harvey, stand by for … news:

For the last nine years, I (Rich Damisch) was the director of finance and administration for a venture-capital-funded software telecom company, Novarra, which was acquired by Nokia earlier this year. I did such a good job on the due diligence team that enabled the sale that I successfully had my job exported to Finland. Fortunately, I was hired as a controller/CFO adviser for an accounting firm in the Chicago area called BIK & Co. The company provides outsourced CFO services for small companies that don’t require a full-time person.

Jan-Peter Onstwedder writes that he celebrated his 50th birthday by taking a dozen friends to the Goodwood Motor Circuit Revival meeting, a vintage car and aircraft event in the south of England. It took place on the estate of the Earl of March, who’s a big motorsport fan. All drivers and mechanics are required to dress up fully in period (1950s) costumes! Gina Villanueva-Weinzierl and Tod Windsor joined Carol Hamcke-Onstwedder and Jan-Peter, along with other friends. Carol is starting an international development course at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. Jan-Peter is still at 3i, a private equity firm.

Rob Ahrensdorf is living in and enjoying sunny and hot Phoenix (what a surprise with the weather, huh?) Can’t imagine why they have the Weather Channel out here. Rob’s eldest went to the University of Arizona and the family was happy with the win over Iowa. Rob’s youngest is not so young anymore (a junior in high school and looking at colleges). Interesting thing about colleges … from the time your kids are born, you are always spending time doing one of three things: saving for college, preparing for college (studying/SAT tutoring, whatever) and looking at/applying to colleges.

Is it any wonder there is a big celebration when the kids go off to college? Rob says, “We have now replaced our college-bound son with a rescue Black Lab from the pound. He is better mannered and talks more than a high school teenager … and eats about as fast.”

Mike Harney regrets that he did not make the 25-year Reunion but he was literally buying tea in China at the time. He did not mention whether he bought all of it. His family business, Harney & Sons Teas, continues to grow. They supply many restaurants, hotels and specialty stores. They opened a tea store in Soho in New York in the fall. All of the Kellogg family is welcome to come in to learn to love tea!
