Hello from Deerfield. I apologize for the very abbreviated columns in the last year. I’ve embarked on a new adventure, which has taken much of my free time, leaving little time for the column. On that note, although I’m not ready to turn over my pencil and paper just yet, I would love to have a classmate or two help out as co-class rep or guest class reps. It’s a fun job and you get to communicate with so many classmates. If you’re interested, or just want to learn more about it, let me know.

At a time when some of you are launching new companies, enjoying your views from the executive suite or finally taking some time to relax and savor your successes, I have decided to start anew by returning to school. I’m attending an arts college where I’m studying interior design. It is something I have always had a passion for and with my kids beginning to show signs that they may not need my constant attention one day soon, this seems like the right time to turn the page to the next chapter. Attending college a second time around is such a different experience and I really love what I’m doing. If anyone else is having a similar experience, I’d love to hear about it.

I love this small-world story from Adam Thacher. He writes: “In June, Janice and I had the distinct pleasure of running into Steve Zales (who still looks like he is 14 years old) and David Lynn at Harsha Lake, outside Cincinnati, Ohio, on Day 3 of the 2010 U.S. Rowing Youth National Championships. Steve and Cathy Zales came from New Canaan, Conn., because their son, Greg, was the coxswain on the boys’ lightweight four from the Saugatuck Rowing Club. David and Ginny Lynn came from Riverside, Conn., because their daughter, Lexi, was in a double for the Connecticut Boat Club. Janice and I came from Piedmont, Calif., where our daughter Abigail rows on the Oakland Strokes Lightweight Eight. All three of the kids made it to the finals in their respective events.”
