Greetings from Gerry Forth, who retired from a career in healthcare a few years ago. He has been operating Forth Vineyards, a Sonoma County winery for 13 years. While he’ll likely spend part of the year in Europe (beginning in 2011), he’s hanging out with his four grandsons as often as he can. Gerry is also active with his local trade group and serves on the finance committee of his local hospital.
From Mexico City: Rafael Gonzalez is celebrating 30 years of happy marriage to Perla. Congratulations! They are parents to two daughters, Perla (a painter studying in New York) and Carla (studying at FIT); and a son named for him, who’s also in business. Rafael is a senior client partner at Korn Ferry International, and heads its financial services practice for the Latin American market. He and other former classmates in Mexico reunited for a dinner in October. Let’s hope he sends photos for the next Kellogg World issue.
News from Gidon Cohen: Gidon and wife Hilary have two daughters: Dana (a senior at Northwestern majoring in statistics) and Tami (a sophomore at Skidmore College, studying dance and sociology). Having enjoyed a very successful career in investment banking at Smith Barney, Bear Stearns and Bank of America, Gidon launched another career just over 10 years ago in private equity. He has equity investments in and sits on the boards of companies like Marathon Pharmaceuticals, Paragon Pharmaceuticals, SRAM Corporations and Blue Star Lubrication Technology LLC, to name a few. While Gidon and Hilary still live in Highland Park, Ill., they plan on spending time in the San Diego area during upcoming winters.
Tyler Sheffield and four of his six children have been traveling through Central and South America for nine months. The kids (Lydia, Jacob, Zoe and Margaret) are trying to keep up on schoolwork through independent study. All are taking Spanish classes in Antigua, Guatemala. Though still in the early weeks of the journey, everyone is pleased with the adventure, family bonding and wonderful cultural/language exposure this experience offers. As for Tyler, he admits he is not missing his last 25 years as a CFO.
Len Bland writes in to say his son Gary began his freshman year at Northwestern. Len runs the BNC VC Group, which introduces investment opportunities to angels, early-stage VCs and private equity firms seeking add-ons.
Sally Andal-Munoz sends greetings from Maui. As trustee of the Philippine Development Foundation, she attended a forum and gala in September in San Jose (Philippines President Benigno Aquino III was one of the guest speakers). Another classmate, Cesar Purisima ’83, who is the Philippines’ secretary of finance, was also present for the events. Sally and husband Joe split time between Maui and the Chicago north shore. After all, they enjoy visiting their Kellogg son: Joseph ’11
.
James Reynolds Jr. was tapped to chair the board of the Chicago Housing Authority.
From the home front, I (Gwen Cohen) continue to serve on Kellogg’s Alumni Council, and look forward to another meeting with Dean Sally Blount. I’m approaching my 24th anniversary as a wealth adviser at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, and often seek a few days visiting clients in warmer climates during the winter.
Keep those e-mails and photos coming.
