Full-Time
Thanks so much to everyone who wrote in this quarter. Let this column be a reminder to all of you to share your news!
A crew of '07s explained their absence from Reunion by explaining that they traded Evanston in favor of celebrating Tarek Helal's wedding in Tampa, Fla., that weekend. When contacted for comment, Tarek writes: "It was definitely poor form to hold my wedding during the same weekend as the Kellogg Reunion! We had a great time getting back together though – Kellogg alums at the wedding were: Lance Garrison, Emily Garrison '06, Steve Han, Steve Kalter, Rahul Seshan, Danny Resnick, Mark Masson and Jamie Gallagher."
Special K legend Ben Nimmergut wed Julie McGrath in June at the Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop, Wash. '07 grads in attendance included Dave Sweeney, Jamil Hossain, Brett Kohn, Justin Carr, Erik Conroy, Jack Cheng, David Hegarty, Louisa Sadler, Michael Fairchild, Kailei Richardson, Sergio Deana, Jay Choi, Max Kay, Anye Roth, and Pablo and Tiffany Bernal.
Dave Hegarty shared a story about the wild weekend at Ben and Julie's wedding. He writes: "About one hour outside Winthrop, Jack Cheng and I get pulled over by a state trooper. Apparently there was an APB out on Jack's car! When we had filled up with gas in Winthrop, Jack forgot to pay, so the station attendant called the cops. The trooper escorted us back 60 miles to the gas station, where we were met by the town marshall who – I kid you not – was chewing tobacco and launched a big spit as Jack approached. Jack, as apologetic and smooth as always, cleared up the situation without a problem."
If anyone else has stories of ways that have put the diplomacy skills that they learned at Kellogg into action in the real world, please write.
Betsy Cantlin, Lisa and Graham Mudd, Neil Seyffert and Emily and Matt Cosman traveled to Ireland to celebrate Corey Loverme's wedding in August.
Liam Krehbiel writes: "John Frederick Krehbiel was born Sept. 2, weighing in at seven pounds, five ounces. Jack's arrival sparked a bit of controversy in the delivery room. Our doctor questioned whether I was really the father, due to the fact that baby Jack is so cute while I am still struggling to address my Kellogg 15. Karen assured the doctor that Jack's good looks come from his mother's side, which was enough to get the hospital security to take off my handcuffs. Now that Jack is settling in at home, I am dutifully fulfilling my role as "that dad" by videotaping every second of our son's life...first feeding, first poop, first headstand (WIP), etc. Let me know who wants copies."
Mark Himmelsbach, Paulita David, Tim Moffat, Megan Hitchner and Micah Murphy assembled to celebrate the birthdays of Jessica Moshner Bargon and Frank Kumpuris at the Hudson Hotel in New York in July.
Shortly afterward, Megan Hitchner relocated to Australia where she is working in Bain's Sydney office until early March. Megan writes that she is living it up in Bondi Beach and trying to learn more about the famous Australian "beach lifestyle." Recent exploits include joining some locals for a game of pick-up beach volleyball on Tamarama Beach and sampling the coffee at the 'third-best coffeehouse in Australia.' Meg reported that she is still trying to figure out where No. 1 and No. 2 are located.
Micah Murphy shipped out as well – literally. He was deployed to the Persian Gulf in August and at press time he was in Dubai awaiting orders. Loose lips sink ships, so even if I knew where he was headed, I would never tell!
Proving that the world is indeed small, Micah ran into Aditya Bhashyam during his shore leave in the "City of Gold." Aditya is baking in the Middle Eastern 130-degree heat until mid-December as a temporary member of McKinsey's growing Dubai office and would love to catch-up with classmates (military or otherwise) if anyone else is passing through.
After almost a year in the real world and some serious travel withdrawal, Wendy Herm decided a 2 week summertime vacation was in order. She started things off in Berlin with a shenanigan-filled weekend with Kirstin Jolly and then ventured to Turkey, spending one week between Istanbul and Çeçme and another week in the Mediterranean aboard a 100-foot yacht with friends. She writes, "I am seeking a position as a full-time travel companion — serious inquiries only." I have word that this self-described "party person" was last spotted in NYC's posh club Mansion.
