EMP-38

Attention Class of EMP-38: If you are interested in learning more about your first reunion, please call Katie Taylor at 847.491.3348 or k-taylor@kelloog.northwestern.edu.

Where have all the EMP-38ers gone? For the next newsletter, I may abandon my efforts to keep my personal EMP-38 e-mail list updated. I would strongly recommend that you update your contact info at the Kellogg alumni Web site: alumni.kellogg.northwestern.edu. Sending the e-mails from the Kellogg Web site is supposed to keep the e-mails from being caught in your spam filter.

Because more and more e-mails are being bounced and because I refuse to have our EMP class listing be one with my contact info and no news, I am being forced into attending events, advancing my education and having my picture taken just to prevent EMP-38 from wandering into obscurity. But before I get to me, please see that one of our "banking" classmates continues to edge her way onto the red carpet and one of our other classmates was selected to participate in an Advanced Leadership Program.

Cindy Vanina is developing the state tax credit purchase program at JPMorgan Capital Corp., which includes film tax credits offered by various states. Developing this business includes meeting with Hollywood studio "suits" and attending movie premiers. She was recently seen on the red carpet for the "Ocean's Thirteen" benefit premier in Chicago. In early June, Cindy Vanina appeared in Crain's Chicago Business with Brenda Sexton, former director of the Illinois Film Office.

Mary Bouska, director Motorola services R&D, was one of 25 leaders nominated to participate on behalf of Motorola, in the McGill University Advance Leadership Program (ALP). The program, created by Dr. Henry Mintzberg, is organized around managerial mindsets: reflective leadership, connected leadership, catalytic leadership. In the ALP, participants attend as company teams of four to six people that share a business challenge of strategic importance, such as a long-standing unresolved problem or opportunity. These issues become the focus of all three modules of the program. Participants come together for three one-week modules, spread over several months. The modules are delivered internationally to reinforce appreciation of the international business environment: Montreal, Canada; Lancaster, U.K. and Bangalore, India. The ALP challenge teams use the people from other companies as "friendly consultants" as they address their company challenges. The program creates an environment to make concentrated progress on complex issues. The challenge team; in which Mary participated, has received significant Sr. Manager support for their recommendation which is being presented to the corporate SLT.

Trish Lambrecht (me) has been busy. Earlier this year, I picked up my PMP certification. PMP stands for Project Management Professional. I have yet to change my cards but now I could be Trish Lambrecht PMPMM or an EMBAPMP. Any thoughts?

In May and June, some EMPers participated in a multiple sclerosis walk and ride. At the MS 150 Ride, the Mike's Bikes Team raised more than $25,000. Mike Shelton, Mike Smith and I got together in the Mike's Bikes tent. Scott Etzler and his daughter Erin were also at the ride but we missed them. As always, the event was fun and raised money for a cause close to my heart and very important to Mike Shelton and his family.

In August, the PIGS had a small get together. You've heard the term when "PIGS" fly. Well, several of the PIGS were doing just that, but Ed (Mick) Phillippi, Tom Schwingbeck and I decided it was the perfect size group for a picture. Tom's wife, Renee, joined us for a nice tapas night in Arlington Heights.

I heard briefly from Larry Kosinski and he reports that all is fine with him. His practice continues to grow and is up to eight doctors and the Endsocopy Center has been operational for two years and will do about 4,000 cases there this year. "We are starting the Elgin Gastro Research Institute and will be collaborating with RUSH to do clinical research."

Kellogg Reunion will soon be upon us! Save the dates —May 2-4 2008 — and watch for news from Kellogg. There will be another magazine in the spring so please work on creating some news now!
