2004 — Full-Time

Greetings from the Southern Hemisphere, where the water really does drain in reverse! Thanks again to summer editors Heather Ptacek and Sarah Butterfass for keeping the good word going, and giving us the latest on Chicago shenanigans. Not too many summer holiday photos were sent in this time around, so one can only assume that you are, as usual, hard at work when not getting married or having babies. (Our European correspondent, however, does tell us that Alberto Spangaro was spotted frolicking on Maui beaches with a Milanese miss, taking a break from Italian legal duties). So, without further ado, let's jump right into fall (or spring, as some of us would have it).

Mike Williams has had a full history since leaving Kellogg, achieving the trinity of change (marriage, baby, new job) to which so many classmates are aspiring. He writes, "I married my wife, Lauren, shortly after graduation in October 2004, with many Kellogg friends in attendance. More recently, on Oct. 28, 2006, we welcomed our son, Brady Dylan Williams, into the world. After graduation, I moved to D.C. and worked for U.S. Airways as a finance manager, responsible for all financial analysis to support labor negotiations. When U.S. Airways announced the merger with America West, I left the airline and joined a new internal consulting group at the Federal Aviation Administration here in Washington, where I manage a variety of finance projects aimed at saving taxpayer dollars. (You'd be surprised at how much MBA-type analysis is needed but lacking in the public sector.) While I don't expect to stay a fed forever, I am definitely enjoying the work/life balance that it affords!"

We have a new rock star in our midst! Showman Nori Kubo has landed a spot as a backup singer for Japan's famous Hiro Tsunoda. Yes, he's already performed live and yes, if you can read and write the language, you can find him on Japan's answer to iTunes, midomi.co.jp. Nori's future dream is "to participate in a Kellogg a cappella club with Chris Butler."

Rebecca Coyle '04 and William Coyle '05 welcomed their son, Brady.

From left, Michael Aingorn, Dan Beck, Garrett Ulosevich, Rob Solem, all '04; Amit Ahuja (husband of Bianka Ramirez '04) and Gabe Kronstadt '04 at Dan's wedding.

Kate (Farrell) Stanford '04 and baby Maggie

Congratulations to Stephanie Feldman '04 and husband Elias Gutt, who welcomed son Joseph on June 5.

Brian Gant '04 married his wife, Abril, in August. JC Mountainbear and Tarita Thomas, both '04, attended the nuptials.

Kathleen Miller '04 married Dan Margalit on May 27 in St. Louis. Joining the festivities were, from left, Emily Sitrin, Rob Mason, Polly Baur, all '04; and Wendy Tsai '99.

Heather, William and Brian Myers '04 along Evanston's lake shore

Harsh Misra has crossed the continental divide, moving from McKinsey in New York to a private equity fund in Mumbai, India. He writes: "For me it's a homecoming after 13 years living outside of India, and it's great to be able to participate first-hand in the exciting India growth story. I'm already missing the good life in New York and would love to see any Kellogg classmates passing through Mumbai!"

Martin Claure and wife Carmen have moved from Evanston to Panama City with their three children (daughter and two new twin boys). Their company, Colfax Realty, develops new real estate opportunities throughout the country.

Karen Welt and Jeff Steeves '05 were married Oct. 21, 2006, in Savanna, Ga. Helping them boogie down were Putney Cloos and Brian Fox. Karen and Jeff live in Boston, where she is a program director at the Fidelity Foundation and Jeff is a senior associate at Fidelity Ventures.

LAHIMAAAA! It may as well have been the rallying cry of Maren Lau and Juan Pablo Rossi's second wedding (yes, second, but still to each other!) in Buenos Aires this past March. Dinner started at 11 p.m. and dancing went on until 6 a.m. Encouraging the festivities were several of the usual fiesta freebirds, including: Hernan "Grillo" Grimoldi and wife Maria Luisa, Juan Ordonez and wife Carmen,Mario Dominguez (who bravely appeared, while wife Mane tended to their baby), Sergio Zavala and wife Sandra, Fernando Phillips, Martin and Carmen Claure, Marene Jennings , Costanza Gallo, Jennifer Chen, Michelle Carmichael, Stephanie Davis, Beth Krettecos '03, Colby Maher '03, Brady Countryman '03, Hernan Pasman '01 and wife Maxine, Fernando Garcia Poitevin and wife Sue. The "Best No-Show" Award goes to Santiago Farcuh who waited eight hours at O'Hare with wife and two kids hoping for a standby flight to Buenos Aires on United, and he couldn't even make it on to the Chicago-D.C. connecting leg.

San Francisco was the site of a recent Kellogg reunion for the Daniel Walker Beck and Natara Garovoy wedding. Guests included Rob Solem and wife Marie '03, Gabe Kronstadt , Amie Wang '05, Garrett Ulosevich, Michael Aingorn, Sapna Chadha, Bianka Ramirez , Jennifer Chen and Whit Lanier. "Worst No-Show" Award goes to Will Nolen, who claimed he couldn't make it because his travel agent canceled his ticket, or something to that effect. Rob Solem remarks that Will "should be hazed both for having a travel agent (what is this, 1985?) and for making up a lame excuse."

And the coming Kellogg generation continues to expand! Minnesota got a new team of twins this summer, as Allison and Rob Barmann welcomed the birth of their babies on Aug. 12 (Alli's birthday)! Nolan Robert and Adeline Jeneen couldn't wait to join the world. They arrived six weeks early and were tiny at 4 pounds and 4 pounds, 1 ounce, respectively. They are doing great and growing quickly. The family is living in Minneapolis, where Rob is still working for Boston Scientific and Alli for McKinsey.

In anticipation of joining the twins as shortstop, Logan Cadzow Bracken was born to Karl Bracken and wife Heather on July 8. Logan weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces, and both he and mom are doing well. Karl still works at Target Corporation in Minneapolis, where he recently became a senior negotiations leader. The Brackens welcome visitors to the Twin Cities any time.

Out West and on to another sport, Matt and Kelly Posner celebrated the arrival of baby Chase Matthew on June 4 in Newport Beach, Calif. Chase weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces and was 21 inches. Both baby and Mom are doing great. In fact, Chase recently helped Dad draft their fantasy football team and looks forward to talking smack to his new Kellogg friends during the season! Dad and son agree: "How hard could it be to beat the likes of Mark Buckley and Greg 'Auto-Draft' Merchant?"

Fellow Californian Dana (Myrick) Lee and husband happily received their first baby, Eloise Adkisson Lee, on July 5. Some of her first visitors were Chris Gallo and Jackie Jordan, both '05, and her first babysitters were Bob Bishop '80 and his wife, Nancy.

Back East, Kate (Farrell) Stanford and husband James welcomed baby daughter Margaret Riley Stanford (Maggie) into the world. Maggie was born on Aug. 25. Kate writes: "I'm still in marketing at Google in N.Y.C., where I get to see Cindy Goodrich on the rare days we're both in the office! I'm commuting from Philadelphia, where James is beginning his second year at Wharton after a great summer at McKinsey focused on healthcare consulting. We're trying to decide whether to return to N.Y.C. after his graduation or stay in Philadelphia."

Ensuring that we are all just as on top of the Evanston bar scene as we were three and a half years ago, Brian Myers writes in to tell us about the "highly renovated Nevin's pub, which has stepped up quite a bit since we graduated." And, lest we think that all Brian does is haunt the old stomping grounds, he adds that William Allen Myers joined him and wife Heather on April 6. He was 7 pounds, 14 ounces at birth and blew up to 17 pounds by 4 months (Editor's Note: "blew up" are the father's words). He writes, "I'm still at SC Johnson where I am the brand manager now of none other than the Glade Spray business."

Joe Terino '03 and Katie Terino welcomed the birth of their daughter, Lillian Rose Terino, on May 3. Lily joins big brother Kyle (2). The newly expanded Terino clan will be packing their bags and binkies this fall as they travel across the pond to live in London for six months. Be sure to check out terino.com for pictures of their next big adventure.

And to those who continued with their education as the rest of us exited the hallowed halls, congrats on finally graduating! Theresa Sullivan, whose baby Sean was born the day of our Kellogg graduation and who just had baby Andrew Vincent, writes: "After graduation I entered the marketing PhD program at Kellogg. I finished all the coursework but I decided not to write a dissertation, so I graduated (again) in 2006 with a master's degree in marketing. From there I joined IBM as a client executive, where I'm responsible for cultivating relationships with executives at hospitals and mid-size life sciences firms in the Chicagoland area. It's been a great move for me because I love what I'm doing."

Tarita Thomas has finally graduated the MD/PhD program. With her three fine degrees, she starts her radiation oncology residency at Northwestern's hospital in 2008. "Five more years of training before I will be earning a real paycheck," she writes. Just add to her degrees "Specialist in deferred loans."

Jacqueline Statum recently was accepted into the Broad Residency Program, a management development program that places talented early career executives into full-time paid positions at top levels of urban school systems.

Finally, yes, Jeff Chesnut, we all commiserate (at least, most of us do) when you write in: "I haven't hit it rich yet so I'm still clocking in every day for the grind." But it really is hard to keep up the empathy when your long hours are dedicated to managing a new portfolio of imported beers. And really, the goodwill is completely gone when you sign off: "So the next time you have a Stella, Bass, Beck's, Boddingtons, Grolsch, Hoegaarden (and about 10 others), you can think of me working hard in St. Louis." But we will name a party after you if you truck up some beer to the fifth-year reunion!

Kathleen Miller married Dan Margalit on May 27. Kathleen writes, "Dan and I are living in Salt Lake City, and I'm enjoying the great hiking and skiing of Utah when I'm not busy being the product manager for new products at Myriad Genetic Laboratories."
