2001
— Full-Time Hi,
classmates! Thank you, thank you, thank you for all of the
great news this time! Keep it coming! I actually have a few
of my own updates this time, so here goes. Most importantly,
Nate Harrison and I welcomed a baby girl to
our family on Aug. 15. Sloan Cady Harrison weighed 8 pounds
6 ounces; big sister Darby (2) has thoroughly enjoyed taking
on the role of helper and demonstrator of what big kids can
do (i.e. "Look at me, baby Sloan, I can jump off the
couch").

On
the work front, I joined a marketing consulting firm called
Rosetta last year and was promoted to associate partner in
June. As it turns out, I was the second Kellogg alum at the
company, but since I joined we have hired five more Kellogg
grads (ranging in graduation years from the Class of 1985
to the Class of 2006). So if you're looking for a marketing
consulting job in N.Y. or Princeton, let me know because apparently
Rosetta is a good fit with our school! Nate also changed jobs
this year and is now a vice president at MasterCard working
with small businesses. For those of you familiar with the
geography of the N.Y.C. metropolitan area, you'll realize
that our home in Princeton is not very close to MasterCard's
HQ in scenic Purchase, N.Y. And to that, we try to remember
the following: Toll on the GW bridge $6, gas to and from work
$30, coming home to a 2-year-old jumping up and down and waving
from the front yard: priceless!
Laurie,
Maya and Hagai Barlev are excited to welcome the newest addition to their
family. Liam Itai Barlev was born on Aug. 26. He was 6 pounds,
15 ounces. Everyone is doing well!
Luca
Cravero Candioli welcomed Guglielmo on May 8, five weeks
before his due date. The baby had to spend a couple of weeks
in the intensive care unit but has now fully recovered. Luca
writes, "He is the last addition to our family: the two
of us, our two dogs Beni (dachshund) and Uma (Newfoundland)
and now Guglielmo. No expansion plans for the time being.
Guglielmo already holds a bachelor's in sailing and is training
for his master's degree in skiing. After that we'll see."
Luca is still running the veterinary division of his family
business (candioli.it) and just launched a new e-business
venture with a friend (superpetshop.it), while his
wife, Michela, recently returned to her job, working with
a colleague at their own law practice.
Star
Hampton and Robb Hoenick welcomed Haven in October 2006. Haven has met numerous
Kellogg alumni and their children already in the Northeast
and while traveling around the world. Robb writes, "We
love our recent move to Providence, R.I., where I'm still
with MetLife and now responsible for all consumer-facing Web
sites in the auto and home division."
Gretchen
(Eschbacher) Koch and husband Brian welcomed "kiddo
No. 2" on May 22. Henry William Koch was welcomed by
his very proud and excited big sister, Melanie (2). Gretchen
writes, "Life with two kids is a bit tougher but we are
adjusting. I'm on maternity leave from Dreyer's Grand Ice
Cream until the fall, so we have been enjoying our summer
"vacation" of sleepless nights, temper tantrums
and potty training."
Amy
and Teaque Lenahan were excited to welcome their daughter,
Tierney Wynne, on Aug. 15. Mom, dad, and baby are all doing
well, and furry big sister Sally Belmont is loving this strange
pink raisin who has joined their pack. They're having fun
as new parents and have been warmly embraced by many Kellogg
friends into the parenthood club. Teaque was recently made
a director at Gravity Tank, the innovation consultancy, and
now heads up the company's marketing and business development
efforts.
Amanda
and Brad Turner are thrilled to announce the birth
of their son, Cole, on Aug. 3.
Tricia
Hough married Chris Edwards in the landmark Carlu in Toronto
on June 23. For all those who were at BCG in Chicago the summer
of 2000, yes, it's that Chris Edwards.
In
July, Ivy Tseng married Davin Hatfield-Westgate in
a relaxed and sunny outdoor ceremony on a 400-acre horse farm
in the Catskills, outside NYC. She recalls, "Thankfully,
the weather cooperated, and among the guests were many Kellogg
friends (and kids): Keith Bernhardt (alas, without
lovely wife Liz or two little Bernhardts), Valerie Threlfall,
Amy Peller, Irene Jeng, Ruth Berkowitz (plus
husband Doron and little daughter Noa) and even Alexis
and Gustavo Pesquin, all the way from Peru with their
two little ones. Alas, with all the craziness we forgot to
take a Kellogg photo, but needless to say everyone was looking
fabulous and it was terrific to have a mini-reunion.
We
will be staying in NYC, living on the Upper West Side, a reasonable
commute to Jamaica Hospital, where Davin works as an attending
physician in the internal medicine department, and my job
at IBM (on my fifth job in six years in various flavors of
marketing and communications). Any long-lost Kellogg friends
living in or passing through New York — look us up!"
After
leading the successful implementation of a federally funded
Homeland Security surveillance camera initiative for the City
of Chicago, Steve Altschul has recently returned to
the private sector as director of strategy for Kaplan Higher
Education.
Matt
Bushell went on a camping/hiking KOA-style trip to Alaska
this July. In the "it's a small world" category,
it turns out the previous fall some Class of '07 members had
hired the same guide/travel company (Alaska Outdoors Travel)
for, you guessed it, a KOA trip! Matt's enjoying software
marketing at Big Blue in N.Y.C. (still), but yearns for the
"let's write a business plan" entrepreneurial setting
we all used to have back at, sniff, school.
Julio
Casillas and his family were making a trip back home from
Minneapolis to Denver and had a mini-reunion with William
Chang and his family, who reside in Bettendorf, Iowa.
The Changs decided to travel two and a half hours to meet
the Casillas family in Des Moines — if that is not friendship,
I can't find other words!
Elaine
Co has recently moved within Morgan Stanley into the corporate-structured
finance/whole business securitization team, which is involved
in all aspects of structured and securitized debt solutions
as an alternative to bank/bond financing for corporate issuers
and/or LBO situations.
Jennifer
(Crowley) Gargulinski and her husband, Mat, recently moved
from Michigan to San Diego. She is working as manager, business
development for Continental AG and Mat is completing his fellowship
in orthopedic surgery.
Michael
Hermawan wrote about an exciting opportunity to accompany
Professor Kotler on part of his Southeast Asia tour in August.
Professor Kotler began by visiting Jakarta, Indonesia, to
speak at various events, followed by stops in Singapore, Malaysia
and Vietnam. Michael's company, MarkPlus Inc., organized the
events in Indonesia and Singapore. Kellogg alumni attendees
at one event in Indonesia included Winston Batanghari,
Michael Hermawan, Teddy Batanghari '95, and John F. Kurtz
'94. The event, titled Rethinking ASEAN, was on Aug. 7, and
Professor Kotler gave a Distinguished Country Marketing Award
to Indonesia's president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
After
nearly eight years in Minneapolis, Chris Hsu and his
family just moved to Palo Alto, Calif., where Chris joined
Chris Hsu Capstone/KKR in May. He is working on Dollar General
in Nashville, Tenn. (Really, it took eight years to realize
that the weather in Palo Alto is better than Minnesota?)
Andrew
Watt just joined Anthony Miller '02 in a small startup
called Lightstone Risk Management in Johannesburg, where they
are "riding the wave of a property boom to provide banks
and property investors automated property valuations and other
property-related services." Andrew and his wife, Fiona,
have two kids, Nicola (2) and Peter (1), and he writes that
they are both great sleepers and eaters! Also, Andrew has
just completed his second Comrades Marathon (89 km) in KwaZulu
Natal and a half marathon amongst the Big 5 in the Kruger
National Park. Andrew says, "Anyone down in this part
of the world should definitely get in touch!"
Robin
Winer was promoted to senior marketing manager at PepsiCo
QTG and is responsible for its lite snacks business. |
