2002
Hello,
Class of 2002! Our featured news item this issue is "those
who have been with the same company since graduation"
(by request). Here's a sample of these seemingly satisfied
classmates who are going on year five with their employers:
David
Werner has been with Novo Nordisk, the leader in diabetes
treatment, since graduation. He took a new position in October
as diabetes marketing director for the region of Europe. He
and the family will move from Copenhagen, Denmark to Zurich,
Switzerland.

Devin
Gallagher '02 and wife Kathleen. |
|
|
Devin
Gallagher may be a newlywed, but he is still at the same
job since graduation, specializing in Canadian equities at Merrill
Lynch. Their team in New York City has grown to three members
and the markets are good as long as the oil and metals prices
stay strong. Evan
Houtrides is still on his first employer. It's a highly
specialized communications consulting firm called The Kingstree
Group. Evan shares that "the most significant benefit
of the job is the remarkable network it is allowing me to
build."

Neal
Freeland '02 with wife Julia, son Zack and daughter Amelia. |
|
|
Neal Freeland
is "still here slogging away at Microsoft." He got
a new job this summer putting together our marketing plans for
the launch of Windows live search: "Basically my job is
to get people to stop using Google. Shouldn't be too hard."
Although
her career has included a relocation from New York to Miami,
Debbie Koyama is still with Kraft. She works for its
Latin America division and gets to make frequent trips to
Latin America.
Thank
you to those who indulged our request for these great updates.
We also appreciate all of the other great news coming in:
Brooke
Brandes writes, "I could have been
one of the 'same employer since graduation' crowd —
almost. But alas, I left JP Morgan in June. My husband Phil
and I moved back to New York from Dallas. I was selected for
the Broad Residency in Urban Education and joined the chancellor's
office of the New York City Department of Education in July.
We are so happy to be back and I am excited about the potential
of my a new career faced with the challenges of reforming
public education."

Charlie
Wyman switched jobs in July 2005 and now works for a start-up
investment bank called Savvian in San Francisco. He is a generalist
focusing on M&A and private placements for growth firms,
predominantly in technology, healthcare and business services.
He and his wife, Megan, had their first child, Charlotte,
in June 2005. Charlie also writes that they recently attended
the wedding of Jeff Bechtel and Charity Tucker, where
they ran into a bunch of Kellogg alums!
In
August 2005, Santos Garza, relocated with his wife
and sons — Montse, Santiago and Mauricio — to
Houston. Santos left Alpek in Monterrey, Mexico, and is now
working for Wood Mackenzie, an energy research and consulting
company, in its gas and power consulting practice for the
Americas. They just bought a house on the outskirts of Houston.
Nicole
Gilmore shares: "We recently returned from Germany,
where we spent three glorious years. Now we are living in
Monterey, Calif., and will be here for two years while Hise
[Gibson - Nicole's husband] completes his master's degree
in operations research. We are enjoying our beautiful daughter,
Madeline Grace Gibson, who had her first birthday on Aug.
22. I also celebrated my birthday recently, and Hise threw
me a wonderful surprise party with 25 of my friends. He even
enlisted the help of his classmates to assist in the secret
operation. Everyone was in on the party but me. Cindy Carey
also joined the festivities to participate in the fun. It
was a fabulous girls' night out.
While
a couple of classmates have returned to the United States,
a couple others have made international moves:
Bernadette
and Phil Arrata have moved to Calgary. He is still
with McKinsey, and chose to be one of the first settlers in
their newest office. So far he has met up with Andrew Quarles
and Nancy Blair '97. They hope to meet other Kelloggians in
Calgary very soon.
Adriana
McGrath has moved to Paris where she is still working
for Corbin Capital Partners while enjoying all things French.
Lisa Jackson isn't far away with her recent move to
Brussels to work for Philips while enjoying all things Belgian.

Raczynska '02, Glen Osmond '02, Susanne Grottstein and
Holger Grottstein '02 enjoy a brunch the day after Sylwia
and Glen's wedding. |
Living
the great life in beautiful San Diego, Aaron Levine
is still working at SkinMedica, launching and managing prescription
medicines for a start-up dermatological pharmaceutical company,
and he's also teaching intro marketing at Cal State University
(hopefully Prof. Julie Hennessey would be proud of how she
inspired him!). He and Annie just returned from a great two-week
trip in Argentina, where they visited Iguazu Falls (huge,
dramatic waterfalls), attended an indigenous ceremony to give
offerings to the Pachamama, or Earth Mother, near the Bolivian
border, and rented an apartment in Buenos Aires for a week.
Amy
Walter writes: "I married Chuck Szymanski on June
10 at my parents' house in the Berkshires, followed by a wonderful
honeymoon in Turkey (FYI, the "Sz" is pronounced
the same way as in Matt Sznewajs's last name).
Chuck and I are enjoying life in Washington, D.C., where I've
been since Kellogg. I'm still working as a consultant to education
nonprofits and school districts; I was formerly with a small
education consultancy and now work for a large social research
and consulting firm. Earlier this year, I was on a project
with Chicago Public Schools that had me back in Chicago quite
a bit, so that was great fun. In short, life is good!"
Congratulations
to Sarah Zehr who was recently promoted to assistant
dean and director of engineering career services at University
of Illinois. Not only is it a significant promotion, it also
involves a switch from the College of Business to the College
of Engineering. In her new position, she will be assisting
engineering students (undergraduate and graduate) and alums
to find jobs.
Glen
Osmond and Sylwia Raczynska married on July 8 in
Gdansk, Poland, Sylwia's hometown. Fellow 4Qers Holger
Grottstein and Wiktor Namysl attended the wedding
and reception, Unfortunately, Dan Campbell had to urgently
return home from Poland due to family reasons and he was really
missed!

wedding in Poland. |
Glen
and Sylwia currently live in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates,
and work for Middle East Strategy Advisors, a management consultancy
where Glen is the managing partner. In three years Glen and
his partner managed to build from scratch a 30-professional
company, advising clients in oil and gas and real estate and
tourism businesses. Per Lederman, another fellow 4Q,
joined them at MESA for half of a year before he went to work
in his family business. As Sylwia puts it: "As you can
see, the 4Qers tend to stick together!"

Gerien and Evan Houtrides are thrilled to announce the
birth of their son Demetrios Michael Houtrides. He was born
Dec. 30, 2005. He's a strapping lad who keeps the family on
its toes. Kim
and Erik Seidel are happy to announce the birth of
their third child, Tyler John, born on May 16. Kaylee (5)
and Zach (2) are excited to have another little one around
the house to play with. Everyone is enjoying living in Wisconsin
where Erik looks for new ways to market toilet paper as the
brand manager of SCOTT Tissue.
Evan
Norton and Katie Arnold are thrilled to welcome
a new addition to the Arnold-Norton household. Maeve Louise
Norton arrived on June 7. Maeve has received a warm welcome
from the Kellogg crew in the Bay Area and she has already
made a trip to Chicago to visit the Kellogg campus. Katie
writes: "We couldn't be more happy to have little Maeve
in our lives — she is truly our best product launch
ever!
Florence
and Arnaud Melin welcomed baby No. 3, Amaury, on June
11 in Minneapolis. "He is doing great and sleeps well
at nights — for the time being at least! At 19 inches
and 6 lbs., 5 oz., he is a small but healthy baby." Bastien
(4) and Ines (2) are very proud of their new little brother.
Mark
Byars and family — wife Nicki and big sister Macy
Layne (3) — are happy to announce the newest addition
to their family: Spencer Mitchell Byars, born June 22.
Jim
Fields, wife Kiley and son Huck welcomed their newborn
daughter Langley into the world on June 30.
Michelle
(Beels) Lorge and husband Eric welcomed the birth of their
first child, William "Tyler" Lorge, on July 15.
Tyler made his grand entrance on a steamy Chicago summer day
with temperatures reaching 100! Tyler is keeping both mom
and dad busy and already eating them out of house and home.
Dana,
big sister Ava and Jon Lewis welcomed Tessa to the
world on July 22. She weighed 7 lbs., 4 oz. "We're still
in Boston, getting reacquainted with the nightlife from our
window as we try to rock the little one back to sleep."
Kathleen
and Devin Gallagher married on St. Patrick's Day (March
17) in Rockleigh, N.J. It was a fitting date considering they
are both Irish and most of Kathleen's relatives still live
in Ireland. It was a genuine Irish celebration in America.
Ten people from the Class of '02 attended, including: Blake
McWherter, Cassidy Shield, Matt and Natalie
Schaefer, Rich Brest, Dan Shedivy, Mike Doheny,
Ross Collins, Dave Walker and John Hartke.
Devin notes, "Hartke showed the most interest
in learning the intricacies of the Irish culture."
Mary
Anne McConnel and Brian Ericson '04 were married in Asheville,
N.C., on April 23. They celebrated getting hitched with an
Appalachian hoedown at a working cattle ranch, complete with
cowboy attire, roping lessons and genuine clog dancers (it's
a North Carolina thing). Their ceremony took place on the
grounds of the Biltmore Estate (one of the Vanderbilts' humble
abodes). Kellogg classmates Linsey Simpson, Eric
Autio, Ashley Stubbins, Dave Rostan '04, Stephanie
Chan '04, Lane Armey '04, Theo Brito '04, Josh Hutto '04,
Jon '04 and Kamber '06 Briones, Matt Posner '04, Sarah Butterfass
'04, Christian Weber '04 and Brian Oxley '04 all joined in
the festivities. Mary Anne and Brian live in Atlanta where
Mary Anne works for the American Cancer Society as executive
director of the Hope Lodge program.
