2001
The
Class of 2001 showed that it can still party during Reunion
Weekend 2006! The festivities began on Friday night in Evanston
with Special K and a party at 1800 Club. Former members of
King Bee, including Brian Black, Chris Lozier
and Charles Stevens, performed bluegrass tunes.
Then the party moved to the Deuce where Tony had a special
treat waiting to welcome back some of his best patrons: karaoke
night! Steve Sherman and Al Liu brought down
the house with their Bon Jovi and Tone-Loc renditions. The
Saturday night party was held at the Hard Rock Hotel in downtown
Chicago and the night ended at 10pin Bowling Lounge. In between
the social events there was an abundance of networking, baby-kissing
and catching up with old friends. (Thanks, Kelly, for the
intro!)

Many
Kellogg friends traveled to Calgary for a four-day wedding
event to celebrate the marriage of Gurmeet Ahluwalia '01
and Amarpreet Sikand. |

Gurmeet
Ahluwalia married Amarpreet Sikand on July 3 in a beautiful
Laawa (traditional Sikh wedding ceremony) at the Gurudwara
Sahib Sikh Society in Calgary.
Andy
Shapiro recounted the weekend: "Where to begin? It
was a four-day affair with one fun celebration following the
next. Saturday night was the start of the festivities, with
friends and family gathering to share delicious home cooking,
songs, jokes and skits. With the next day came more cocktails,
food and games in the Devonian Gardens in downtown Calgary.
The wedding itself took place on Monday, followed by a spectacular
reception with great food (notice a theme?) and dancing until
the wee hours of the morning. I had the honor of toasting
the radiant couple in front of the 300-plus guests. Before
the dancing kicked off, Gurmeet's MBA skills were on full
display. He delivered a hilarious toast that utilized PowerPoint
— something only he could pull off. Afterward, no one
spent more time on the lively dance floor than Gurmeet and
his gorgeous bride, Amar.
"Kellogg
was well-represented on the dance floor and at all the events.
In attendance were my wife, Pat Setji, John Wallace,
Rob Leonard and his wife Naomi, Rob McClung,
Quentin Kluthe and his wife Carol, Bridget Cooley,
Heather Hammond and her husband Chris, Bendee Anzures,
Gwen (Jones) Sheridan and her husband Rick, Kathrine
Mott '05, Arya Badiyan and her husband Chad, Ken
Thompson and his wife Melissa, Lina Yoo and her
husband Phil, and Robb Hoenick and his wife Star.
"As
if the first three days weren't enough fun, guests spent July
4 enjoying a post-wedding brunch at the Ahluwalia residence,
and then traveled up to Lake Louise and Banff in the Canadian
Rockies. The spectacular setting was only equaled by the warmth
and generosity of the Ahluwalia family in hosting such a magnificent
celebration. "Last year, Gurmeet led Citigroup's acquistion
of a mutual fund servicing business in Toronto. After the
acquisition (and after meeting Amar on one of his trips to
Toronto), Gurmeet decided it was a good time to go 'home'
and made the move back to Canada in March of this year with
the company. While those of us he left behind in New York
will miss having him around for runs to Chipotle, we are very
happy for him and his new wife."
Gurmeet
said, "I could not have asked for a better wedding. I
married an amazing woman, and it was so great to have so many
of my Kellogg classmates there. We're looking forward to spending
time with all the Kellogg alums in Toronto, and for other
friends to visit us here — our door is open!"

Mike
McLaughlin married Brandy Bridges on July 29, a beautiful
day in California's wine country at Kunde Estate in the heart
of Sonoma Valley. Brad Turner and Mike Biddlecom
helped celebrate as part of the wedding party. Also joining

After
four fun years at eBay Motors, Mike recently moved on and

Internet startup, working from home and wearing flip-flops
to work. Brandy recently left her job as a manager at Bain
& Company and is looking to move into real estate development.

Births:
Dana
and Todd Asmuth had a son, Anton Nicholas, on Aug.
2. Their daughters, Alex and Abby, both love their little
brother and have decided to stop sleeping through the night
in a gesture of solidarity. Todd purchased Surebond, a manufacturer
of adhesives and sealants, last year and says if anyone needs
some great glue, please give him a call.

Christie
(Wong) and Tom Barrett welcomed their son Kai Wong
Barrett as the newest member of their family on Aug. 17. He
weighed 8 lbs., 9 oz., and measured 21.5 inches. Mother and
baby are both doing well. They left London after four years
and have settled in Ann Arbor, Mich. Christie is still with
McKinsey and Tom has joined the family business in the (very
niche) label manufacturing industry. They write, "Though
we do miss London at times, it's great to be back in the United
States where we're closer to family and friends. If you're
ever in Ann Arbor, drop us a line."
It's
been a busy year for Douglas and Marie-France (Nuyen)
Greer. They are happy to announce the birth of their daughter,
Kelsey Bao Greer. She was born July 23 in New York City. She
has her mom's lips and her dad's eyes, and like her mom and
dad, she already knows what she wants and when she wants it.
Marie-France
has also left her job at Pfizer to start her own business.
She now runs a school for children in TriBeCa in lower Manhattan:
miniMasters, a first-class learning center designed to develop
children's musical, physical and artistic talents. The school
is also an inviting and comfortable space for the whole family,
where parents can enjoy a variety of classes and services,
from cappuccinos to manicures to pilates classes.
Lisa
(Stern) and Andy Kaplowitz welcomed the arrival
of Justin Joshua Kaplowitz on May 20. No surprise that he
is very energetic and already loves to smile and laugh
and play.

Alexis
(Rozman) and Gustavo Pesquin and their daughter Nicole
(3) welcomed a new addition to their family, Tomas Andres Pesquin,
on June 20. The Pesquins have been living in Lima, Peru, for
the past two years where Gustavo is Country Manager for Pfizer
Peru. Ava
Renee Kunchala was born on Aug. 14, weighing 6 lbs., 13 oz.
Mother and daughter are great. Father (Kanna Kunchala)
is a wreck.
Elizabeth
(Likens) and Christopher Lane welcomed a daughter,
Katherine Eva, on July 13 in San Francisco.
On July 27,
Debbie (Rebell) and Jason Moss welcomed their new
son Asher Cole to the world. Though he doesn't resemble either
parent, and each tries to take credit for his good looks, one
thing is clear — he's got that Kellogg cool factor down!
Marisa
(O'Connor) and Dan Mulvihill welcomed a baby boy on May
23. William Patrick, nicknamed Liam, surprised them by arriving
three weeks early, but quickly settled in with the family.
Marisa was lucky to get a six-month maternity leave, and will
return to her position as an engagement manager at Prophet,
a brand and marketing consulting firm, in January.
Shari
Resnick (Friedman) and Jon Resnick '02 welcomed the birth
of their son Noah Harris on March 10. The family is doing
great and they are moving to London in September for Jon's
new position with IMS Health Consulting.
Omar
Rodriguez is happy to announce that his first baby, a
daughter named Shanti Lucia, was born July 19. She weighed
6.6 lbs., measured 19 inches and is growing fast! Omar and
his family moved to Shanghai in February 2005, and he was
recently appointed to lead the consumer marketing work for
Coca-Cola in relation to the Beijing Olympic Games.
And
in work news:
Deepa
Bhaskaran has recently joined SAP Americas after more
than four years at McKinsey. Her daughter Gowri (3) and son
Vishwa (1) made the decision for her. Her family has been
in Houston since graduation. She also wants to invite y'all
for the Rodeo February/March.
Jeff
Boris has been named director in the equity group of Commonfund
Asset Management. Jeff has been with the firm since he graduated
and works as a portfolio manager in addition to managing the
group's equity and derivatives trading. Jeff and his wife
Christine, who worked in the development office during their
time at Kellogg, recently moved into a new home in Ridgefield,
Conn., with their two children, Edward (almost 4), and Evelyn
(17 months). Rob Bishop recently stopped in for a weekend
visit with the Boris family and a good time was had by all.
Bibi
Choa wanted to let everyone know that she is doing a short-term
assignment in Brussels, Belgium, still with Levi's and learning
how to be a merchandiser. She will be there for at least 18
months, so if people want to visit or get together in Europe
let her know!
In
May Andy Grieve left Bain & Co. after nearly five
years to pursue a new career with Harrah's Entertainment.
He is the regional vice president of marketing for the Midwest,
responsible for four Harrah's and Horseshoe casino/hotel properties
in St. Louis, Kansas City and Omaha. He, Julie and Elizabeth
(2) recently completed the move to St. Louis.
Teaque
Lenahan is having a blast at Gravity Tank, combining strategy
and design in the "innovation consulting" space.
He loves using principles of anthropology in researching consumers
in their homes and then turning those insights into new products
and services. Responsible for leading teams that combine business
analysts and designers, he is constantly learning in an exciting
and expanding field. He and wife Amy recently hosted Jason
Moss, Peter Solomon and Gretchen Hall during
Reunion Weekend; while they loved playing host, it made them
realize even more how much they miss their non-Chicago-based
Kellogg friends.
Teaque
reports that Gretchen and Peter are doing extremely well in
their salon venture in Boston, State Street Barbers. They
recently won a "Best of Boston" award. They've also
been featured on a Boston metro TV news program ("Chronicle"),
watched by a lot of people, and the Boston Globe even
ran a piece on Peter! Gretchen is working part-time at Booz
Allen and full-time as a mom to little Sadie. Great news all
around.

a company Christmas party with Eric Kirr '01 and his wife,
Beata '02. |

The
Lenahans have also been fortunate to spend fun summer times
with Stephanie '02 and Tim Freeth at Ravinia and Greektown,
with Erin and Dan McCarthy at the outdoor party the
McCarthys hosted in June, with Steve Collens at Hubbard
Street Dance Company and with Peter McWeeney at lunch
in Chicago.
Dan
Matkowsky was hired by Electronic Arts (EA Chicago) in
September, finally making the switch to the career he was
always meant to have: producing video games. His kids think
it's pretty cool, and approve wholeheartedly. If anyone has
any extra t-shirts lying around, Dan could use them to augment
his new work wardrobe.
Sharell
Sandvoss has accepted a new position as director of corporate
strategy at Brown-Forman Corp. Brown-Forman is a producer
and marketer of well-known wines and spirits including Jack
Daniel's Whiskey, Southern Comfort, Finlandia Vodka, Fetzer
Vineyard California Wines and Korbel Champagnes. Sharell has
spent the last five years at L.E.K. Consulting in both London
and Chicago. The new position brings her, her husband Ken
and their son Tyler to Louisville, Ky.

Christa
Short celebrated her one-year wedding anniversary to Tom
Karlsen on Aug. 13. The couple married at Wynn Resorts in
Las Vegas, with a number of Kellogg alumni in attendance.
This date also marked her five-year anniversary of living
in New York City and three-year anniversary with long/short
equity hedge fund Hayground Cove Asset Management. Recently,
Christa was appointed director of India Hospitality Corp.,
a special-purpose acquisition company listed on the London
Alternative Investment Market. Previously, Christa was a vice
president of equity research at Bear Stearns, where she followed
casino and lodging stocks.
Mohammad
Shamim has recently accepted a position as the vice president
of information technology for BJ's Wholesale Club, a Fortune
300 company, based in the Boston area. Reporting to the chief
information officer, Shamim will be responsible for leading
marketing and membership solutions for BJ's. BJ's introduced
the wholesale club concept to New England in 1984, and has
since expanded to become a leading warehouse chain in the
eastern United States.
