Melissa
Ahlborg Uppgren, Trae Andersen and Lauren Schreiner Woods
(all '86) in Seattle in July. Melissa and Lauren made
the trek to the northwest to help Trae celebrate his wedding. |
1986
The
big news is that one of the more eligible bachelors of our
class has decided to give up the joys of take-out, canned
and frozen food to join the ranks of the happily wed. Trae
Andersen married Amy Ford on July 29. Lauren Schreiner
Woods and Melissa Ahlborg Uppgren were among those
that made the cut to attend the event. This is how Trae sums
up the recent developments: "Change has come in clumps.
In December I took a new job with DaVita, a national dialysis
provider. I asked Amy to marry me during my first week of
work. We bought a house in West Seattle in June. In July we
sold my house, leased her condo and got married. I'm tired.
It was grand having Melissa and Lauren in Seattle for the
wedding weekend. Thursday cookout at the new home, cruise
around Lake Union and Lake Washington on Friday, and the wedding
festivities on Saturday. Did I say I'm tired?"
Don't
worry, Trae. You will have the rest of your life to catch
up on sleep. Ha!

Lauren also
had a fun time at our class reunion catching up with longtime
(not old) friends,
Janet Sedlock and Cammie Marsden Vail at Marshall
Fields (now Macy's) the day before the reunion. Ginger Campbell
just wanted to say hello to everyone and say what a great time
she had at the reunion. I think she mentioned she wanted to
head the next reunion committee. We only have four years to
plan.
Charlie
and Lauren Baker went on a four-day, four-night rafting/camping
trip down the Green River in Utah. Apparently, the children
enjoyed not having to bathe, shower or change their clothes.
The younger part of the family enjoyed setting up a tent each
night (or watching Dad do it) and sleeping outside. Mom and
Dad are considering Camp Hyatt next summer. Not sure where
the kids will go. They have also spent time watching the Red
Sox finish in second place and out of playoffs. Charlie took
his daughter to see the musical "Wicked" and their
review was that it was wickedly wonderful.
Earl
Enzer provided a brief recap of the past 20 years. He
joined Goldman after graduation and is still there. He has
been living and working in Los Angles since 1987. He has worked
in several positions, but has mainly focused on private wealth
management. He and I have nothing to talk about, but I'm sure
he could do wonders for many of you. He sees David Tenney
on a regular basis, since David is at Goldman too, starting
in Chicago and New York before moving to Los Angeles to head
Goldman's equity research department. Last summer, the whole
family went to visit Christian Langaard at his horse
farm outside of London. Christian operates his own private
equity firm and splits his time between homes in the United
Kingdom and Argentina, enjoying endless summer and lots of
spoiled milk. Christian met his wife Christele in Argentina
and they have two beautiful daughters (4 and 2, respectively).
Another one of the notorious Norwegians, Oyvand Solvang
and the normal Susan Lubar Solvang skied in Utah last
season and spent some time with Kevin Damon and his
family.
Brad
Kime reports that his bank, Irwin Union, was named one
of the top 10 "Best Places to Work in Indiana" by
the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce. Brad has been there
20 years and he is very proud to be the president of a company
that receives such recognition. My company is a great place
to work too, but only when I am on vacation. Brad was also
featured in a recent edition of the Southwest Airlines in-flight
magazine, Spirit. He was the featured passenger of the month.
I
read in Advertising Age that Bob Gamgort is
involved in improving the sales at Mars. I guess sales of
Snickers bars have taken a downturn. Sorry I went on that
diet, Bob. Consider it over. I encourage all non-diabetic
classmates to eat at least one Snickers bar a week. Diabetics
can have one a month.
Dan
Lambert was able to get enough sand out of his laptop
to send an update. Dan and his two sons (Sterling and Sean)
visited Dan's brother's shack in Telluride, Colo. Everybody
had an awesome time fly fishing, hiking, moto-cross riding,
camping, shooting, barbecuing, etc. One of the highlights
was watching approximately 100 elk cross a meadow at 2 a.m.
in full moonlight — something you never get to see in
Hawaii.

Martin
Suter had a short but exciting summer. The entire family
went to Greece and, in three days, were able to get their
international diving organization license. Martin recommends
that all families scuba dive together. It is great fun and
exercise. Also, while on the vacation, one evening they noticed
a little puppy running around their resort. The resort owner
mentioned that people dump dogs there all the time. It is
unclear whether the children (12 and 10) adopted the puppy
or the puppy adopted the children, but either way, the puppy
now resides in Switzerland.
I
spent my summer playing lots of bad golf and watching the
Brewers win at home. I did visit John Baumann '85 twice, once
for a golf outing, where I won season tickets for the Badger
football games and the next time for the Cheese Days festival.
I am still teaching at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
and found out that one of the deans reads this column —
hello, Janice!
