Hope the economy has been treating each of you well, or at least gently.
I was so pleased to hear from Sarah Merz in September. She writes: “I have exciting news to report from Salt Lake City. I moved out here in 2000 and joined FranklinCovey’s marketing team. Last Friday I was promoted to president of the consumer business unit and have responsibility for all consumer channels including retail stores, catalog, ecommerce and all planning tools and product development.”

Sarah is also working with Alumni Relations to start a Kellogg Alumni Club of Utah. With more than 130 fellow Kellogg grads out here, we’ve finally reached “critical mass” and hope to get established soon. Sarah added that she touches base every now and again with Dave Greenberg, Suzanne Milne, Irene Melitas and Kim Dahlman, who all seem happy and crazy busy and would love to hear from more Kellogg grads. You can contact Sarah at Sarah.merz@franklincovey.com.

Lisa Fry and husband Ed are the parents of Madison Leigh, 4, and Lindsey Caroline, born Sept. 3, 2002. Lisa is the director of business development for Kaiser Permanente of Georgia.

Great to hear from Mohamed Amer (scv93@yahoo.com). He writes: “Hello, everyone! It’s time for change again. I have accepted a position with the business software giant SAP. Although attached to the Irvine, Calif., office, I will be spending most of my time in Chicago with the software development group. I’ll be responsible on a global basis for the retail/grocery solution offerings from functionality/requirements (supply chain/merchandising/logistics/CRM), roll-out to solution positioning in the market and with analysts. Lots of work, risk and fun!”

Mohamed wants to close with one of his favorite poems, “Drifter’s Gold,” by Don Blanding:

I’ve squandered the gold that is minted coins
With carefree and spendthrift hands,
Buying folly and sorrow and joy
On the byways of many lands.
But the gold that is minted from memories
That I’ve gleaned from the world’s far ends
I’ve hoarded and saved against the day
When I could share it with friends.

Was so happy to hear from Debora Beverly, by far the sanest member of my first strategy section at Kellogg. She graciously agreed to give me a quick update for our alumni column. Debora writes: “I continue to work in marketing. Right now I am with Carol H. Williams Advertising, heading up African American-targeted efforts nationally for General Motors. My son finished his MBA in June and is employed by the NFL in New York City. He’s moments from popping the question, having met Ms. Right while studying in Oregon (Go, Ducks!).” Debora is living in the San Francisco Bay area. You can get in touch with her at Dbeverly1@aol.com.
