EMP-29

For those of you EMP-29er’s who were bold (and hopeful) enough to actually look at our class listing in this issue of Kellogg World — SURPRISE! We’ve actually got some news to report! In this issue a handful of our former classmates will update you on their whereabouts. As EMP-29’s new class rep, I hope to be able to track down many more of you and to report on the changes you’ve undergone since we graduated eight — that’s right EIGHT — short years ago. If you feel that you’ve waited long enough to see your name in print, please don’t hesitate to call or email me with information about yourself. Since it’s been a while since many of us have seen one another, help jog our memories by including pictures whenever possible!

From Kate Meyer: “I climbed the corporate ladder for a few more years after leaving EMP-29 and made it to president of the Clearing House at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. I will always be grateful to the Merc for giving me the opportunity to go to Northwestern for my graduate degree. However, I wanted to be like Mike and so gave up the corporate world at the top of my game in 1999. I now use my management skills as a professional stock market trader, battling the world from my home office. I am also a soccer mom nowadays. I have two children, born in Russia, whom I adopted as infants. Michael is 6 and Kira is 3 and they bring me as much challenge and more joy than the corporate world ever did. We live way out here in the beautiful Fox River Valley in St. Charles, Ill.”

Brenda Seliga has also been busy: “Hello to all in EMP-29! My husband, Cliff ’82 and I just celebrated our second anniversary in Seattle, Wash. I was recruited by Key Corp. to oversee all of the client service activities of its asset management company, Victory Capital Management, west of the Mississippi. It has been a wonderful experience! Victory provides a wide variety of services to clients in 19 states. Our products range from retirement plan administration to separately managed investment management accounts. Changes in my line of business will most likely lead to our relocation during the first quarter of 2003.”

From Chuck Weinles: “I am currently a vice president at Clark/Bardes Consulting in Chicago. We are an executive compensation and benefits consulting firm. I was recently appointed to the board of directors of New Century Bank and Ontario Street Investments in Chicago. My wife Mariette and I live downtown with our new puppy, Vincent, who is a Papillion breed.”

As for me, I married Dave Marren in a private ceremony in Rome back in September 1995. Dave’s uncle, who is a Catholic priest and was living in Jerusalem at the time, performed the ceremony. Our wedding party consisted of our uncle and a family from northern Italy whom we had never met before, who served as our choir, ringbearer and photographer. We now live in West Ridge with our 3-year-old son, Ian. Until earlier this year, I had been working in the legal industry, first as controller with Lord, Bissell, and Brook, and then as director of finance with Hinshaw & Culbertson. I’m staying closer to home these days so that I can spend more time with our son. I’m also concentrating my efforts on writing, and have picked up some consulting work. Much as I feel my Kellogg education helped to advance my career, I am equally grateful for the chance to take a break from it all!

Finally, don’t miss the upcoming EMP-29 get-together! Many thanks to Kate Meyer for suggesting we arrange an evening of eating, drinking, and general merriment before the winter holidays get under way. I am currently soliciting recommendations on dates and locations, so please send me your preferences. Watch your mail these next few weeks, as I’ll have a flyer in the mail to you soon. And if you haven’t updated your contact information in the Northwestern University alumni online directory, please do so today so that the flyer reaches you.
