Gaffney has been promoted to director of product managment
at NetRatings Inc.
A news flash from
Washington, D.C.: Andrew Maner has been appointed chief of
staff for U.S. Customs Commissioner Robert C. Bonner. Andrew
previously headed the U.S. Customs Office of Trade Relations.
Kristi
Anderson, Barbara McCollister and Tami Neuhausel Bohlig completed
Ironman Canada (2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, 26.2-mile run)
in August along with 2000 other participants. Todd Tracey,
Sadhana Dixit Joliet, Jerry Joliet and Brian Bohlig ’96
were there to cheer them on. They all finished with smiles
on their faces. They’re not sure if that meant they
were having fun or if they were just happy to be finished!

Ryuji
Kaneko moved from Japan to a Cincinnati suburb in northern
Kentucky in late May to become vice president of corporate
development of Aristech Acrylics LLC. His wife, Mari, and
children (Machi, age 11, and Junpei, age 8) joined him in
early August after their school ended in Japan. Give him a
call or email him if you have an opportunity to visit the
area. He is looking forward to meeting up with or hearing
from everyone again. Ryuji’s work number is 859.372.3520
and email address is Kaneko@aristechacrylics.com.
In a busy summer,
Steve Olszewski married Lisa Sunwoo (whom he met at McKinsey)
in an outdoor ceremony in West Chester, Pa., on July 6. Shortly
thereafter, he left McKinsey in Houston to join Capital One
Services in Richmond, Va.
Bouake Fofana writes
to say that he recently joined the National Road Management
Authority of the Ivory Coast (West Africa), as general manager.
“The political unrest having eased, I am moving my family
back from Minnesota this summer,” he notes.
After five years
of apartment-dwelling in San Francisco, Sharon Foote has taken
the big Bay Area plunge into home ownership. So, instead of
spending Sundays looking for homes, now she is working on
furnishing and decorating the new pad. By the time this goes
to print, Sharon will have attended the weddings of two other
Kelloggians: Ellen Taschioglou in early October and Mike Hilberman
in late October. Last fall, Sharon took a trip to the land
of Oz with her old roomie, Monica Gessner, and visited prior
Kellogg exchange student Russell Hoore. For those interested,
Russell has learned how to fly a helicopter (or “chopper,”
as he puts it), and would love to take guests out for a ride.
On the work front, Sharon has been with the same (sort of)
company ever since graduation: Price Waterhouse/ PricewaterhouseCoopers/PwC
Consulting/(almost)Monday/IBM. Ah, the joy of industry consolidation!
Matt Daniel and
his wife, Nadia, purchased a house in Philadelphia at 820
N. Woodstock St., near the art museum and Schuylkill River.
Please give them a call if you are ever passing through the
City of Brotherly Love at 215.765.7111.
David Henry was
recently promoted to senior vice president at the commercial
real estate company, Jones Lang LaSalle (formerly LaSalle
Partners). He has also continued to slowly add residential
property to the “Imani Real Estate Company” —
the company whose business plan Ike Kawanabe, Kevin Pate,
Patricia Schneider, Sean Krauss, Dave Garcia and he developed
in Professor Merkin’s entrepreneurism class.Edward Lhee
and his wife, Maerry, gave birth to their son Kaden Eric Lhee
on May 31.
Along
with his wife, Amy, and first son, Connor (now 2 1/2-years-old),
Addison Snell is thrilled to announce the arrival of a new
baby boy! Casey Joseph Snell was born Aug. 8 at 10:20 p.m.,
weighing 7 pounds 15 ounces and measuring 20 inches long.
Addison is still in his supercomputing marketing role at SGI
and was lucky to be able to spend three weeks off with the
newly expanded family. The Snells are happily settling into
their new home at 490 Roosevelt Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94085.

Anne Raveret
married Jim Obsitnik on July 6 at Grace Episcopal Church in
St. Helena, Calif., with the reception at Meadowood, Napa
Valley. Several Kellogg ’97 friends and their spouses/significant
others were there to help celebrate the occasion including
Brenda (Brown) Boime and her husband Eric, Scott Gerber, Tim
and Jana (Pompadur) Kierstead, Burt Lampl and wife, Trina,
Julie Kim and Jenn Rand. Other Kellogg guests included Alex
Brown ’94, Elizabeth Duff ’96, Tom McCleary ’96
and his wife, Jill, Tom Midura ’96 and his wife, Janna,
Scott and Sally Pofcher ’94, and Heather McAndrews Scuddeboom
’96 and her husband, Raoul. Anne and Jim spent four
weeks honeymooning in French Polynesia, Wyoming and Montana,
and are living in San Francisco. On the career side of things,
Anne has made a long-anticipated career switch into elementary
school education. She will be teaching second grade at Reed
School in Tiburon, Calif., starting this fall.
On July 6, on
the maritime shores of the Atlantic, friends and family of
Jennifer McLennan and Mark Holmstrom gathered to celebrate
their union of love and friendship. Kelloggians in attendance
included Jon and Rita (Ryu) Belmonte, Adam Bergstein, Andy
Carlson, Shephali Patel ’96, Steve Carlson, Josh Holmstrom
’02, Beth (Weber) Hoffman and Kevin Hoffman, Peter Jarman
’00, Darren Louis and wife, Kimberly, Mike Stone, Kurt
Weinsheimer, Jonathan Wilk and wife, Tracie. Mark works with
Deloitte Consulting (since summer associate at Kellogg, possibly
a class record?) as a senior manager. Jen and Mark live in
San Francisco and would love to hear from you.
Scott Morrow writes
that a group of 13 guys from Kellogg class of ’97 get
together once a year to catch up. They’ve been doing
this for the past five years and attendance has been close
to 100 percent. This is impressive given that many of the
people are married with children! The first year was in Canada
at Alex Moorhead’s lake cabin. Year two was at Sal Saglimbeni’s
beach house in Santa Cruz. Year three was at Scott Davis’
lake house in North Carolina. Year four was in Lake Tahoe.
And year five (this year) was at Grant Gund’s place
in Nantucket.
Peter Walter and
wife, Lyle, recently celebrated two notable occasions …
the one-year mark of their move to Thailand, as well as the
arrival of their second son, Alec Martin Walter, who was born
July 25 in Bangkok. Mother and baby are doing well, and older
brother, Nathan, is keeping busy at preschool. Peter is still
working with A.T. Kearney, now as acting country manager for
A.T. Kearney Thailand. As always, they are eager for visitors,
so if you’re in the neighborhood, please get in touch
at peter.walter@atkearney.com.
Jennifer Schlein
married Matt Podhajsky on May 18 at The University Club in
St. Louis. Kellogg friends in attendance were Karl and Ashley
(O’Neill) Kleiderer, Janet (Gardner) Long and husband,
Justin, Shelley (Smith) Young and husband, James, Sue Klose
’96, John Rountree ’96, Kristie Roehr TMP ’02
and Laura Hollister ’00. Jen and Matt ate and drank
their way through Tuscany for their honeymoon before heading
off to a new state, new house and new jobs. After nearly five
years at Kraft, Jen is now at Hershey Foods, where she is
an associate brand manager on Reese’s Pieces and all
of the Hershey’s Bites items. Matt is an assistant product
manager with Graco Children’s Products. They live in
Palmyra, Pa., and would love to hear from folks who are in
the area. Jen’s email is jpodhajsky@hersheys.com.
Nico Ortiz’s
son, Porter, is getting ready to celebrate his third birthday,
and his other baby, Turtle Mountain Brewing Company, will
be celebrating it’s fourth birthday. Plans are already
under way to open up another Turtle Mountain in Sandia Park,
a small community at the base of Sandia Peak Ski Area in Albuquerque.
He is still at the same post-graduation job, and still loves
what he does for a living. How could you not love owning a
brewery?
Donald Evans and
his wife Jill have a son, William, who was born May 2. Donald
and his wife met through Charlotte Vere while he was studying
abroad in London. They reside in Los Angeles where Donald
is currently working for Walt Disney Studios in international
film marketing and promotions.
Five-year-old
Isabelle Bouhadana and her 3-year-old brother, Jules, are
proud to report that their dad, Michael Bouhadana, and mom,
Alicia, are alive and well and living in Pepper Pike, Ohio,
an eastern suburb of Cleveland for the past three years. Dad
is at Eaton Corp. as director of corporate development and
really enjoys leading acquisition and divestiture activities
at Eaton. Isabelle says she was very happy to visit her birthplace
in Evanston. She says she was there in May to attend her dad’s
five-year reunion where she had fun meeting her mom and dad’s
friends and had lots of ice cream.
All is well across
the pond for Marty Caverly. Last year he sold Centric Telecom,
and is now working for a new private equity real estate fund
sponsored by Tishman Speyer. And there is a new family member,
a baby boy. Grant Patterson joined the Caverly clan Friday,
Sept. 13, (that is a lucky number in Asia, right?) at 1:30
in the afternoon, weighing in at 9 pounds 7.7 ounces. He joins
Bray and Gillian.
After a seemingly
interminable product development cycle, Gloria Maroti happily
reports the launch of Wine Spectator’s new online venture,
winespectatorschool.com. “I just wanted to wait out
the dotcom bust. No, really.” Online wine tasting? “Seems
to be working: less than three weeks after launch, wine lovers
from Hong Kong to Guadalajara and Nebraska to Seville are
learning the finer points of wine appreciation (as well as
sales and service for trade members). Equally important, people
around the world are connecting with family and friends as
they share the tutored tastings included in the course materials.
Homework was never this much fun.” Mark Smith, currently
in London with Lehman, is her first student from Kellogg.
You can connect with Gloria at gloriamaroti@ hotmail.com.
In August, Gloria met up with Lisa Mroz, who is doing org
change management on a contract basis for Chevron. They spent
a sunny week sailing around Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket.
And the first week in October, she’ll combine Ellen
Taschioglou’s wedding in San Francisco (Ellen has survived
multiple rounds of layoffs at Schwab) with photographing the
harvest in Napa Valley and dinner with Millie Fu (Gong), who
has made it through four years of reorgs at Netscape and is
about to take a hard-earned, six-week sabbatical that will
include a trip to Shanghai and finally hanging some pictures
in the house she and Winston Fu purchased more than a year
ago.
Apparently one
graduate degree was not enough for Katie Brick. In September
she began a Masters in Divinity program at Catholic Theological
Union in Chicago. “A lot of the Div people get excited
when they see I already have an MBA,” she writes. “I’ve
got a lot to learn both theologically and on a personal faith-journey
level. And if I get a special line in to the Vatican, I’ll
let you know.”
Florence Halley,
wife of Frederic Halley, had a baby named Theodore born in
Paris on July 5.
Mark Crandon and
Melissa Beauchamp were married Sept. 1 in Santa Cruz. Recent
homeowners, Brian James and his fiancee, Susan Anderson, took
a weekend away from their house remodeling to attend the wedding
and were joined by a rash of fellow graduates, including Stan
Baginskis and his recent fiancee, Debbie Wolter; Joe Urban
and his recent fiancee, Carye Campbell; Allyson and Brian
Tobey and their new baby, Conner; Audrey and Curt Bagnall;
Richard Murphy; Paul Fichter; Cliff Wylie; Sadhana (Dixit)
Joliet and Jerry Joliet; Chris Drews; and Laurie and Mike
Peck. Go class of ’97! The weather in Santa Cruz was
perfect and everyone had a fabulous time. Contact Mark for
photos, as he and Melissa were unavailable in Italy to send
one in. Mark is still working at his startup, Kasenna, and
Brian is still with his unstructured data management startup,
Stratify.
A baby girl, Chloe
Louise, was born to Candace (Parks) Chow and husband, Dan,
on Aug. 5.
