EMP-64

As of this writing, the barbeque is getting fired up, the beach clothes are out, baseball is in full swing and EMP-64 is on the move!

For starters, Yolanda Daniel decided that Chicago was just not cold enough for her and headed north. Well that, plus a promotion to vice president and chief financial officer for Acklands-Grainger ( the Canadian subsidiary of W.W. Grainger, Inc.), based out of Toronto, Ontario. If you are in Canada, please look her up — and bring some firewood!

The Klauzar family: baby Harper Shilo, Joseph Klauzar EMP-64 and wife Nicole

Tom Ellis writes that he, his wife Leah and their two girls, Maya (3) and Hannah (1), will be enjoying the summer in Chicago and New England this year. Further, when he is not learning the finer aspects of boogie boarding and duck-duck goose, he is still with Nielsen and has taken on a new role as Nielsen’s North American operations lead for their consumer practice.

Sandeep Gupta has moved to the city — New York City, that is! He has joined Barclays Capital as a stock analyst and is looking forward to seeing all those who visit the Big Apple!

Cheryl Hyman is the chancellor of City Colleges of Chicago! Cheryl was appointed by Mayor Daley and oversees a $476 million budget, 5,700 employees and 115,000 students. Cheryl left her former post as ComEd’s vice president of operations, strategy and business intelligence. Congratulations Cheryl!

Joseph Klauzar is happy to report that he and his wife Nicole welcomed a baby girl into the world on March 5. Harper Shilo weighed in at a healthy 8.5 pounds and 21 inches long. She is growing rapidly and enjoying the surroundings of her wonderful new family.

Eddie Kubo reports that all is well in China and should any of us happen to be in the neighborhood of Beijing, please let him know!

Wesley McDermott writes that he is still enjoying retirement. However, when he gets bored (not too often) he enjoys a mix of consulting with medical device companies (IP review/M&A) and family (homeschooling and travel). Many of us only wish we had similar challenges of entertainment — great to hear from you, Wesley!

Matt McPartlin reports that he and his family moved from Arlington, Va., (D.C. suburbs) to Davidsonville, M.D. (D.C. suburbs). While not a major move (across town), their new home is on 3.5 acres in a little-known farming community just 25 minutes from downtown D.C. The move gives the growing kids a lot more room to run around and the ability to host more folks from EMP-64, should you happen to be passing through the greater D.C./Baltimore area!

Mike Palumbo is pleased to announce that he and his wife (Ned) welcomed Michael Carmelo Palumbo into their family on Jan. 21. Young Michael weighed in at 6 pounds, 15 ounces and was 19 ¾ inches long. Like any new parents, they are adjusting to the change in lifestyle, including sleep deprivation! On another note, given the new expense schedules of the Palumbo family, Mike would like to ensure that all fantasy football finances are in good order — especially from their treasurer — now and going forward (J-team – this is you). He certainly would not like to have to send young Mikey over with his rattle looking for diaper money. Finally, Mike is looking forward to catching up with everyone over the summer!

Kevin Peters, never one to rest, reports that he was fortunate to have been promoted to president of North American retail at Office Depot in April. Congratulations, Kevin, we are glad to see that Office Depot recognizes one of the true talents of EMP-64!

John Potter, while extremely busy, had time to contribute that he is now a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Apparently, they finally saw fit to admit him. Note, one of his first moves as partner was to cut out the annual holiday card expense budget — perhaps John will see fit to send personal cards this year instead. Congratulations, John — a promotion well deserved!
