Maureen Floeter-Calabrese announces that “The Calabrese Expansion Project” is a success with the arrival of Vincent Joseph on March 3. Maureen and John are thrilled with his arrival — if a little worn out, as Vince firmly feels that sleeping is for chumps — the mark of a true EMPer. Vinnie actually said this, which reflects the combined brilliance of his parents. He said it with a faux Canadian accent reflecting one parent, and has threatened to sue over this joke, reflecting the other. Vinnie has not selected his middle name for quotes yet, but Vinnie “The Brains,” “The Counselor,” or “The Looks” Calabrese are all top contenders. Congratulations John and Maureen!

Russell Hayworth is thrilled to let you know “that Betsy gave birth to our second beautiful baby boy, Nathaniel (Nate) Emerson Haworth, at Matilda Hospital in Hong Kong. He has a full head of brown hair and weighed in at 6 pounds, 8 ounces. Mother and baby are doing great, and even Harrison seems to be enjoying his role as big brother!”
Alfonso Cantalapiedra is excited (though tired) to communicate that Diego Cantalapiedra was born at10:08 a.m. April 28, weighing in at 6 pounds, 14 ounces and 19.5 inches. He writes: “Mom (Carla) was a warrior. There was no stopping her driving to the hospital after her water broke at home while I waited for the nanny to stay with Marco. Diego and mom are doing great and Marco is crazy about him (they did bribe him with several gifts).”
Gustavo Coronel and his family (Monica and Mateo) spent a great spring break in Japan. He writes, “Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Niko were wonderful cities. The food was fantastic and traveling in the Shinkansen was a great experience.” Monica and Mateo’s favorite place was the Kabuki Za (Japanese Opera) in Tokyo. For the Coronels, this was a dream come true. They missed Eishin Takahashi, which Paul Del Gallo, Andrew Gillen, Rafiq Mohammadi, Safak Guven and Hari Vallurupalli and just about anyone who listened to their stories can tell you.
Jason Childers joined SAP America as an EIM specialist focused on sales of business intelligence and data management solutions for Fortune 200 customers. In his new role, Jason will provide thought leadership and high-level vision for executives seeking to navigate the information overload impacting modern businesses. None of us actually have the slightest idea what Jason is talking about. His job duties are clearly a master key for a round of “work jargon bingo” or an attempt to confuse clients as to why he is calling, hoping they will strike themselves in the head and accidentally order some services. We think he really opened a Dairy Queen, but we are going to go with what he sent in.
Rosemary McGillicuty reports that her plans to “drill baby drill” under pavement in New York City have been postponed due to market climate issues beyond her control. As part of her new business venture instead she will be opening her travel agency “The Music Cities of America.” With its three stop tour in New Orleans, Nashville and Detroit, this exciting adventure filled tour excursion is expected to be booking for a long time. She was able to find reasonable accommodation at each of these U.S. classics. More on this soon from Rosemary and Demitri.
Mikenzie Steffens-Sari and Paul Del Gallo are back in class! They are auditing the Innovation Management and Securities courses. Due to the lower number of required sessions (two instead of four), they are auditing the class in Miami. This is of course a difficult event, in Hyatt rooms with TVs and all the trappings. They have enjoyed the sessions so far, of course with Mikenzie never speaking and Paul, well, sort of the opposite.
Ellen Siebenborn-Forsyth has reported that she and the crew were able to take a big ski trip in February. They went to Winter Park, Colo., for a snow-covered run. Ellen and Matt are happy to report that it turns out that skiing with two small children is a trouble-free event where one can hardly tell the difference between that and the old romantic couples’ weekends away. Except for ski lessons, diapers, crying, and of course, beginning the drinking later in the day.
Marc Womack accepted a new role with JP Morgan Chase in its auto finance unit as senior vice president of product strategy. He will be leading the product development and strategy for the manufacturer segment of the auto finance business and will be based in Garden City, N.Y. Marc comes to this role with a lifetime of deep financial knowledge, and of course, as a Detroit guy, he knows auto. Early indicators are very promising as he has unveiled his “Have a cool name, get a cool car loan” program. We are hopeful that JP Morgan will be able to help him think through some of these concepts carefully.
Paul Del Gallo, Seiji Shinozaki, Rafiq Mohammadi, Ann-Marie Peluso (and her new hubby Flavio) all gathered in Lincoln Park for an energetic session of conversation, and oh, say, one or two drinks. The group was thrown together with speed as Paul was in town, and gave everyone almost 24 hours of lead time. The night was full of drinks, food (at Hugo’s Frog Bar, where yes, they ate frog’s legs), and fun. By the end of the evening, they had only been thrown out of two places and look forward to challenging the wait staff of many other places in the near future. |
