EMP-46

Can you believe it has been 10 years since we graduated? The reunion was a huge success for EMP-46, with about 36 alums plus significant others in attendance. Special thanks to Dean Chopra and Bernie Birt for joining us at the Metropolitan Club Friday cocktail party. It was good to reminisce about the good old times, especially Live-In week and favorite modules. Those in attendance missed those who could not make it. So here is some news of interest.

What new business ventures are Greg Calloway, Tony Garcia and Paul Herring, all EMP-46, planning?

A big hello from Ro Kumar, Bob Gallager and Becky Brubaker, all EMP-46

lolli-garcia-siebert: Chris Lolli, Tony Garcia, and Melissa Seibert, all EMP-46, together for the first time since graduating in 2000

So much catching up to do between Jose Martinez, Janine Nyre, Neal Logston, and Chris Quatrochi, all EMP-46

Darrin Reilly, Sue Nedza, and John Rutkauskas, all EMP-46, exchanging notes at Reunion on recent career moves

You may recall from the last issue that our very own Sue Nedza joined HealthyCircles LLC, an online resource for health management, as vice president of strategic clinical solutions. She truly has made the transition from the nonprofit world to corporate America. You can see the announcement for her new position in the May 10 issue of Crain’s On the Move section. Great picture, by the way!

Also in career movement is Scott Baxter, who joined VF Imagewear Inc., a division of VFC, the world’s largest apparel company, according to its website. He was named coalition president. If you missed it, Scott appeared in March 22 CNBC’s “Closing Bell” with Maria Bartiromo in an interview titled “The Business of Basketball.” Google “Scott Baxter VCF CNBC” to see an EMP celebrity.

For many of us overachievers, status quo is never good enough. With yet more advancement, Darrell Jackson was appointed executive vice president at the Northern Trust Company. This is a milestone advancement, as he will be one of only a handful of executives with this designation at this $4 billion, more-than-century-old financial institution. Yes, it is greater responsibility but I don’t think he is complaining.

One of our long-lost classmates also showed up at the reunion all the way from Texas. Tony Garcia was there with his daughter, who will be graduating from a local university. Today, Tony is nestled in Texas with his ever-growing family, with kids ages ranging from their early twenties to infancy. WOW! On the career side, he accepted an executive position at the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association — College Retirement Equities Fund.

Here’s news from another “out of towner.” Darrin Reilly was in town from California for Reunion. Since leaving Motorola, he accepted a position as COO for PlantCML, an EADS company based in California. Even though the weather on the West Coast is near perfect, he still misses all of us here in Chicago. We miss you too, Darrin.

To recap, Reunion attendees included Becky Brubaker and her husband Todd, Alan Burack, Greg Calloway, Bhasker Dave and his wife Sandra; Bob Gallagher, who has apparently been running marathons, and his wife Jenny; Tony Garcia and his daughter Kirsten; Joyce Hansen, Paul Herring and his wife Tracy; Darrell Jackson and his wife Valencia; Nizar Jiwani and his wife Salima; Ro Kumar, Neal Logston, Chris Lolli, Jose Martinez and his wife Kamala; Sue Nedza and her husband Oswaldo; Paul Nelson, Janine Nyre and her husband David; Chris Quatrochi and his wife Kathleen; Darrin Reilly, John Rutkauskas, Melissa Siebert, Peter Zaleski and his wife Eva; and Darlene Ziebel.

On other news, Charlie Chiappone and Don DiLucchio both send their regards to everyone. Charlie continues to rock the world of plastic resin as CEO of Alloy Polymers Inc. in Virginia, and Don is enjoying Tennessee as he manages the wholesale mortgage business for Wells Fargo. I’m sure you all know about the severe flooding in Nashville, and you’ll be glad to know that Don and his family fared well. There was little damage to their home. As for the kids, Don’s are growing fast and one is getting ready to visit colleges. Perhaps a potential Northwestern University recruit?

To keep the EMP-46 bond going, stay tuned for the next social event. Details will be coming via e-mail, so make sure you submit your recent contact information to Alan Burack.
