2004 — Full-Time

The dark side, Indiana Jones, political intrigue, and a London pub…sounds like the makings of a summer blockbuster, but it’s just the latest reality for Class of ’04 alums. Enjoy!

For Brian Myers, life is coming up deuces. Approaching his two-year anniversary of moving to the San Francisco Bay Area, he was also lured back to the “dark side” of consulting (his own words) with a firm called Prophet in 2008, and has just added child No. 2, Charlotte Cecile Myers, to the fold in October. Brian writes, “Everyone’s doing well, but I can tell you that whoever said child No. 2 was more like multiplication than addition was totally correct!”

Ginger (Agregado) DeAraujo and husband Alex welcomed Adriano Javier DeAraujo on March 19. At 6 pounds, 13 ounces and 19.5 inches long, Adriano arrived two weeks early and caught his parents a bit by surprise. Ginger writes, “It’s already two and a half months later and we're enjoying every minute (well, except for those sleepless nights). We're still happily settled in Chicago and excited about this new chapter in our lives!”

Kevin Lev writes: “On May 6, my wife Evie and I had a baby boy named Yoav. He weighed 3.75 kilograms and was born in Jerusalem. I also hope to be moving to a new job within a month working for Ornim Medical (ornim.com).”

A group of 1Y's met up in Beaver Creek, Colo., in January for a mini-ski-trip reunion. Included on the trip were Katie Terino, Joe Terino ’03, Kelly Rainko, friends Brad Rainko and Stephanie Bannos, Aaron Rose, Liz Williams, John Eisel and Spencer Williams.

Who knew that beneath that tranquil demeanor in negotiations class lay a politico-in-training? Our favorite Flemish liberal, Alexander De Croo, has had a busy year. In December he was elected president of the Open VLD party, a minority party whose support is critical to the Belgian coalition government. Find out more about the ruckus he’s been raising on his home page, Twitter account and Facebook fan page. The guy even has his own Wikipedia entry! (Hope we didn’t embarrass you too much with this unsolicited writeup, Alex …. But if we were Flemish liberals, you’d have our vote!)

Jeff Chesnut is seeing stars, whisking his wife off to Hollywood after winning the prize trip in his employer's costume party. “I went as Indiana Jones, so the ROI on that $30 fedora was strong to quite strong,” says Jeff. “On the family front, I took my daughter Claire (4) to her first baseball game. She lasted three innings, which was more than the starter could claim. Overall, we enjoy being back home in Dallas after several years away.”
London calling! Shelly (Edlund) Quarles and James Quarles have a British baby, welcoming Rhys Wilson Quarles to their family in November. Shelly writes, “We love living in London (give us a shout if you are in the neighbourhood!), and experiencing all that Europe has to offer.” Little Rhys has already begun his European adventures, having made several trips to France and at least one visit to a London pub.

New faces in small places! Lisa Duncan announces the arrival of daughter Maya Charlotte last November and notes that her family is “ still squeezing into our one-bedroom Manhattan apartment.” Lisa returned to her job at Google on the healthcare sales team.

Derek Apanovitch just made this deadline. He and his wife Rebecca welcomed the very recent birth of their daughter Aubrey Anna Apanovitch on May 25. Thanks to you and your family for being so accommodating, Derek. His family continues to live in Tampa, Fla.,where Derek works as a senior vice president and general manager at Conversion Partners, an investment firm which acquires and manages middle-market companies in the private, post-secondary educational space.

Michelle (Villagomez) Sanchez and husband Brett Sanchez ’06 welcomed another daughter. Baby Cecilia has joined big sister Gabrielle to help further skew the female/male ratio in their home. Michelle comments that she is “still happily working as an independent marketing consultant, doing both contract work for consulting firms, but also building my own client base. It is the best of both worlds and I love it.”

He may be the new chief transformation officer for the largest Czech insurance group, but Brano Jakabovic knows where his priorities and patriotism lie. He was off to the World Cup to cheer for Slovakia and planned to meet Kellogg alums en route.

Alison (Curd) Lowery keeps on trekking. For her 34th birthday, she visited Peru with her husband Tyson. The country has been on her it-list since Kellogg, and the couple had the opportunity to spend time in the Amazon jungle and visit Cusco and Machu Picchu. “Wow, what a beautiful country!” Alison writes. Note to Kellogg husbands: International getaways always make great gifts.

Emily (Sitrin) and Rob Mason were thrilled to welcome their son William Robert on Nov. 30. The happy couple admits, “In six months, Will has sufficiently wrapped us around his finger. We are loving being parents!” Emily and Rob are still living in New York. Emily continues to work on the U.S. Lipitor business as a marketing director at Pfizer. Rob is enjoying his role as a senior brand manager on the Crown Royal business at Diageo.

It’s an invented term — “shoshika,” or “a society without children” — referring to Japan’s severely declining birth rate. But the word doesn’t seem to be in the vocabulary of our Kellogg classmates. At a recent gathering of six alums (five from Japan — Nori Kubo, Mikio Kawahara, Dai Tsuruki, Kent Nakagawa, Tamae Takeda and one from Korea — Helen Cha), no fewer than eight little ones made their presence known. Sho-shi-whaaa?

Carole Bruner moved to Singapore with Medtronic as business director in Asia Pacific for the firm’s new catheter-based therapies business. Carole writes: “Please drop me a note if you're in the region. I will be in the major cities of Tokyo, Seoul, Delhi, Sydney, Beijing and Bangkok on a fairly regular basis, and I'd love to visit and catch up. And I also welcome visitors, so let me know if you'll be cruising through Asia any time soon. I can be reached at carole_bruner@yahoo.com.”

Beck fans, take heed. There’s a new Beck boy in the world — courtesy of Daniel Beck and wife Natara. Asher Connor Beck was born on March 8 and weighed in at 7 pounds, 3 ounces and 20 inches.
That’s a wrap, folks! Please send along your info at any time — always great to hear from you.
